Horrible experience tonight with Shane at National Car Rental in Monterey, CA. I reserved a car for work travel, but upon arrival was told that I “might not be able to get a car tonight,” with the reasoning for that being that people had made reservations earlier than I did, and they had to get their cars before I could. I asked how it was possible that there *might* not be a car for me if I was allowed to make the reservation, and was told by Shane that there were some cars that needed to be cleaned and that if I were to “hang around for a while” he might be able to get something for me. I asked for a time frame of how long I should be expected to wait, and he couldn’t give me an approximation for how long that would take.
I find this absolutely ridiculous and a complete waste of my time. As a loyal National customer and executive member (I rent cars nearly every single week), I am severely disappointed in this experience. If there is a car available, I should be able to pick it up, and another vehicle could be cleaned for the next person. If there are no cars available, then the reservation should be declined automatically. Horrible customer service from Shane, and if this is the way National treats their customers, I’m afraid I don’t care to be one.
