Pretty easy and painless rental experience, very friendly employees. Minus a star because they didn't have the car I reserved and prepaid for. I had reserved a compact luxury sedan, but they gave me a 7 passenger SUV instead. I was thankfully not charged more for the larger vehicle, but it was overkill for just myself. It ate its way through more gas than a smaller car would have, and was alsovery hard to park. As Seinfeld once said "you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation."

Horrible experience tonight with Shane at National Car Rental in Monterey, CA. I reserved a car for work travel, but upon arrival was told that I “might not be able to get a car tonight,” with the reasoning for that being that people had made reservations earlier than I did, and they had to get their cars before I could. I asked how it was possible that there *might* not be a car for me if I was allowed to make the reservation, and was told by Shane that there were some cars that needed to be cleaned and that if I were to “hang around for a while” he might be able to get something for me. I asked for a time frame of how long I should be expected to wait, and he couldn’t give me an approximation for how long that would take. I find this absolutely ridiculous and a complete waste of my time. As a loyal National customer and executive member (I rent cars nearly every single week), I am severely disappointed in this experience. If there is a car available, I should be able to pick it up, and another vehicle could be cleaned for the next person. If there are no cars available, then the reservation should be declined automatically. Horrible customer service from Shane, and if this is the way National treats their customers, I’m afraid I don’t care to be one.

The gentleman that helped me was very courteous, patient and pleasant. You also helped me find the verifications that I needed to rent a car. The SUV ran great and I will definitely rent there again at the seaside location. I won't refer them, but I definitely recommend them.

Emerald aisle forever had reservation number and they could not find it so no car can’t even win when you have a number tried to tell me it showed a different return what does that have to do with pickup my pickup and drop was the same at Monterey airport no more National for me or my company

Same as some previous reviewers have stated but this location is quite small. Despite being an Emerald Club member for years, limited selection and no upgrades. The car I received was shared among Enterprise/Alamo and not really up to the usual standards when paying more to rent with National.

Rented a car through their website. Use national for all my rentals. Website showed they had tons of cars available. Got a call as I’m getting on the plane from their desk saying they were canceling my reservation. Will never use national again this location seems specifically bad.

Made a reservation and when i got to location there were no cars available for me. The agent said that they had been blocked out but never acknowledged that i had a reservation. she then said a car may become available in an hour and a half "50/50 chance. Never apologized. I paid a for a lyft there and had to pay for a lyft back , waisted time and money. barely made my appointment.

I came here on the morning of September 7 to replace a car that I picked up at SJC that was having mechanical issues. There was no one on the lot to check in the car when we arrived. When we went to the counter to replace the car and told the woman at the counter, she was not only unapologetic about the maintenance issues with the car but quickly told me that they don't really have much available to offer as a replacement. When I told her that I saw several options in the emerald aisle (there were probably about 5 midsize cars) she said they don't have enough cars to upgrade from a compact. Both the initial rental car and the replacement were extremely old and in poor condition. I won't be using National or their affiliated a

For the money I paid I've got a huge Ford Explorer. When I booked a car, it showed a regular one, but when I went there, they gave me the explorer. It was cheap and good deal. The lady who assisted me, was super nice. I'll be back! :)

Reserved a car over the phone only to go down there and have them tell me it wouldn't be available till 5hrs AFTER my scheduled pick up time. The people on the phone told me the car was forsure available and at the airport. It seems like these people dont have their shit together especially for being at an airport!

The customer service from Judy and Patty stands out consistently as exceptional. Together with their team, they always go above and beyond to ensure their customers needs are met/exceeded to the best of their ability. I'm almost always delighted with the car selection, friendliness, ease of transaction, and overall level of service.

Can I give a 0 stars? They literally had zero cars, in spite of our reservation. I felt like I was on Seinfeld. The staff here just didnt have the juice to do the job. Couldnt be more disappointed in them.

Small location but great service from Judy. I'd call ahead to make sure they have the size rental you requested. I had a Full Size reservation and they want to give me a compact. I did get a dirty car on one occasion.

Great service and clean cars. Flew in through del monte aviation and they had the cars ready and waiting for me plane side. Dropped the cars off next to plane and took off. Very simple and easy process. I do with they had an SUV or more luxurious cars than a Ford/Chevy but I booked the day of and wasn't expecting much.

Everything was ready when arriving on a late flight and was out of the airport as quick as our bags came off the conveyor. Emergency required early departure and National was super with the early return.

The Service at the National desk was lovely. I came in around 10:15 PM and the woman working could not have been nicer or more welcoming. She offered my choice of two excellent vehicles, and I was on my way. The following day when I returned the car she was there again, and again, warm and welcoming. I briefly lost my smart phone and she assisted me with that as well.

RENTER BEWARE!!!! We rented a beautiful convertible car for our anniversary and had wonderful time. We return the car in perfect condition. Parked it in the lot, notated the mileage and returned the keys to the desk. They asked about the car and we said it was great. Two days later they called and asked about the car.??? I told them it was really nice. Then they mentioned it was damaged!!!! Not by us. A week later we got a bill from National for the damage $3000!! 6 months later this nightmare is over. We had to pay because we could not prove we did not damage the car. The damage was so severe we could not have driven the car back. Some lot person drove the car, backed it into a wash spot where there was a pole or low wall and put the convertible top down. The trunk crashed into the wall/pole and lifted the trunk lid up like a wing. That and the rear license plate was at a 90 degree angle! No police report was made by National. We just had to pay. Take pictures when you rent, when you return take pictures and drag the counter people out to the lot and have them sign off that there is no damage. What rip-offs.
