A Cross-Country Car Excursion

"A sinkhole that the Bowling Green, Kentucky Fire Department estimated to be 40 feet across and up to 30 feet deep opened up underneath some very expensive machines in February 2014, making car collectors around the world wince in horror.  Eight Corvettes on display at the National Corvette Museum plummeted into the void in the spacious “Skydome building” in the wee hours of the morning, luckily while the museum was closed to visitors at the time and no one was injured. The not-so-lucky vehicles that toppled into the sinkhole included a 1962 Black Corvette, 1984 PPG Pace Car, 1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette, 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette, 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette, 2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette, and two cars on loan from General Motors, a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder, and a 2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil”.  As engineers and the museum’s shell-shocked staff deal with the lofty issue of removing the Corvettes from their dusty, subterranean prison, car nuts bemoan the loss as GM promises to oversee all restoration efforts once the cars have been recovered.  While the exact worth of the Corvettes sitting at the bottom of the 30-foot hole in the middle of the museum is hard to estimate, the number is easily several million—the white “1 Millionth Corvette” alone is worth close to $750,000, and the Spyder Prototype is worth around $250,000. It brings new meaning to the popular opinion that classic cars are money pits." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

In general awesome experience. Learned a lot of interesting history and facts. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Kentucky. However. The corvette simulator is way too much for way too little. Especially when there's zero people waiting and the operator told us they let her kids do it for free all the time... That being said, I will be returning to see the new exhibits they're currently working on. Just no repeat of the simulator. Kinda a waste! 🤑

This was amazing! I went with my boyfriend and his family and I can't wait to go again! There was this fun Corvette ride where you got to do a virtual race in a Corvette and you actually felt the feeling of a car moving and bumping alone and it was just brilliant and I can't wait to go again. You can even ride the cars without going through the museum. Obviously as first time visitors we went through the whole museum and it was just beautiful and very informative. I can't wait to visit again. 😊

So exciting! Great museum and cars. Watching people pick up their new Corvettes was fun. I was a little disappointed that the sink hole exhibit was gone, but you can still look down the hole. In all a great experience.

Awesome museum. First time visiting KY (came up for a road race) and went here after. You’ll have to pay a $25 entry fee but it’s worth it. Saw tons of classic, modern, and concept corvettes. You can do the whole thing in about 2 hours without rushing.

I'm not a GM fan but a Corvette is a thing of beauty! This museum does the history and tradition of this American muscle car quite proudly. Nice layout and easy to get around. If you pass by, stop by and visit. Leave them a good review and give me a like. You will like it that much!!

Excellent museum. Displays were well done. The storyboards were easy to read and not too wordy. Beautifully presented cars. Clean, and quiet. Not busy in October. Nice tour. You need about 2 hours or so to go through it and see it all.

Chevy/GM enthusiasts and fan as well birthed into the family. Currently a GM employee, but I have never been to the place and finally had an opportunity to stop by ony way home from nashville. South history, reasonable prices, kid friendly. Well worth a visit!!!

Really awesome museum, highly recommend! Me and my husband went for an early Valentine's Day and loved the whole experience. We got lunch at the Stingray Grill inside and the burgers were DELICIOUS. Im usually not a huge fan of burgers but I couldn't put this one down 😆 (Velocity Burger) 10 out of 10 chefs kiss 🤌
