National Museum Benin City

3rd visit and If you are an history loving person, please visit. The tour guides are so so knowledgeable! Go early. Asides the artifacts, the cyclical building is fascinating, and the mud colour paint that nods to the laterite (red sand) found in Edo! Of course, a face lift would make a difference

Was eye opening some of the artifacts where just returned to Nigeria

Mat Ice eatery is a small cute eatery in the outskirts of Benin City. From Ring road to New Benin and then to Aduwawa...you can't miss. The lighting, furniture, air conditioners are simply wow...a music is a load though but it's okay

Great collection of artifacts, and the tour guide shared interesting information. However, the exterior of the museum could be better maintained given the historical significance of the Benin Kingdom.

History is alive and well at the Benin Museum. The Museum has seen a remarkable improvement in the quality of the experience and exhibits since the last renovation that was done in 2017. Tickets for adults is N500 and children N300 and the tour guides provide quite a remarkable experience for everyone. Try to wear comfortable shoes and clothing because the tour can be exhausting across the 3 floors

Beautiful set up, located at the centre of the infamous Ring road, the museum comprises the gallery, administrative offices, departmental offices, library, kitchen, and various symbolic monuments. The Museum Gallery is the pride of this establishment, as it is well organized. The Gallery is a circular two storey building, that has majorly the Benin art displayed on the ground floor, Royal Court photography on the first floor, and unity in diversity artifacts on the second floor

Western museums are returning the Benin Bronzes — priceless items looted during colonialism — to Nigeria, but political infighting has jeopardized the ability to display and maintain the masterpieces. Beautiful! I learned a ton about the early Benin empire. The curator was knowledgeable about her stuff and I loved the whole experience. I really hope the Government can take preservation very seriously going forward.
