"India and Beyond What began as an exhibit of Indian art in London in 1947 grew to become this New Delhi museum, now one of the largest in India. The pieces in the permanent collection (which stretches to some 200,000 items) span the globe—don’t miss the section on pre-Colombian art fromthe region that spansCentral and South America—but the museum's main focus is on representing thousands of years of Indian art and culture. The galleries showcase a wide array of topics, from coins, armor, and textiles to miniature painting, musical instruments, sacred texts, and tribal artifacts. Start at archaeology and work your way through."

As a museum in the capital city, the overall collection is a bit disappointing. While we as India were never colonizers and did not steal artifacts from our victims, our collection could still be better, even sourcing exclusively from India itself. The one highlight of the collection for me was the Harappan section. It was moving to see artifacts from the civilization of our earliest ancestors. I would most likely visit again when some of the exhibits are reopened or maybe new ones are brought in.

Amazing place for history lovers. Tickets are cheap, and the garden inside is great for basking in the sun. The exhibits are awesome, and the interiors are very aesthetic. Each room is worth several minutes of attention. The museum store is also great, and has a good collection of replicas and books if you wish to take some home. Do bring a spacious bag if you plan to shop. The staff inside are very welcoming. You can also find some great tea to wrap up the walk. The garden has various replicas to observe, and the courtyard is beautiful.

Ticket 20 per head for domestic tourist. Opens at 10am. Online booking wasn't working today on31Aug25. Booking counter was crowded. Very little space for parking. Three floor. Well maintained. Huge collection of old artifacts. Max people spend time on ground floor ( which is worth it by the way) and miss 2nd, 3rd floor. Don't miss that. Especially don't miss the ajanta caves Enclave. It's enchanting. The guys there help you with understanding the area with audio visual VR aid.
