If you like history, this is probably one of the best museums to visit in Beijing. The admission is free but you have to reserve tickets through a mini app on WeChat. It could be difficult to get tickets. They release new tickets every day at 5 pm. The best one was the Ancient China exhibition, but the line could also get extremely long. You’d better visit it either in the morning or late before their closing time. There were also plenty of temporary exhibitions. You could expect to spend at least 3 hours here.

It is very hard, almost impossible to buy tickets. It opens 7 days in advance I think and need to be really fast. We had help from our colleagues. Very nice, learned a lot about history, technology, art. I would visit again next time when I visit Beijing, if I get lucky to buy ticket again.

To access the museum, you need to make reservation via their website or WeChat mini app first at least 7 days in advance and admission is free. The museum is quite huge and separated into 2 wings and many floors. You should check out the floor plan first and decide which part you would be interested in. The most popular section seems to be the Ancient China which you have to queue to get in. There are both temporary and permanent exhibitions with lots of invaluable items and historical content to check out (with some English explanation). After your visit, you can proceed to other nearby attractions in the same area.

Unless you are a history geek, I don't highly recommend coming here. The lines can get extremely long and not too many activities besides reading about history. Security is also very tight. You need to drink any drinks you have in front of the security staff and you cannot take out any selfie sticks. Thankfully staff were still kind

Entry is free for tourists; however, you need to prebook a visit time slot one week in advance via the WeChat app. Many Chinese historical relics are on display, and the exhibits are exquisite.

The closest way to get there is the subway line1 Tian-anmen east exit C/D. If you walk from another direction, it will be far and there will be many passport check points.

Free entry but you need a ticket to enter! There is a crowd to enter the museum.. took us 20 mins to enter after all the bag and human checks. Main attraction is in the basement which tells you the history of China. The place is horribly big so be prepared to walk and walk!

‘A must visit to better understand China’ I visited the national museum to better understand China through history. The place is immense and offers many exhibitions. I specifically enjoyed the history exhibitions. Be mindful to book your tickets in advance. I got lucky there was still availability for the same day! One thing that struck me was that the staff was walking around with signs for crowd control such as ‘dont scream’ ‘don’t play rough’.
