17 Best Things to Do in Athens, From Hitting the Beach to Gazing at Ruins | Condé Nast Traveler
"After finally hitting its stride under artistic director Katerina Gregos, this converted brewery on Syngrou Avenue now flexes serious muscle thanks to 140 large-scale installations from the D. Daskalopoulos Collection—proof that Athens’s contemporary scene can go toe-to-toe with its antiquities." - Rachel Howard
"If you still have the stamina—squeeze in an hour at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, which finally opened in 2016 after a 12 years of construction and postponements."
This wonderful industrial building houses a very interesting collection of contemporary art with a focus on Greek artists but also keeps an eye on the world scene. The temporary exhibitions are world class and the huge spaces makes wandering through art a relaxing walk. The restaurant on the top floor has one of Athens’ greatest views and a lovely well priced menu. A cafe and a bookshop on the ground floor are also worth a visit.

Highly recommend for anyone visiting Athens!

I loved this Museum! It resembles Tate Modern. The staff are helpful and smiling. The restaurant at the top floor has a stunning view to the Acropolis and the food was great. The exhibitions are avant-garde.

The current exhibition "Why look at the animals" is pretty impressing, the area is big, spacious, it has been designed well, it may take a long time to see all of the works but there are spaces to have little rests, I would recommend to experience.

I don't usually like contemporary art museums. I often find them too abstract or farfetched to understand meaningfully.
But I really enjoyed this museum and their "Why Animals" exhibition. Each display or section had thought provoking messages that were communicated in a way that was innovative and creative, and got me thinking from a different perspective regarding our various relations with animals and their purpose to us.

This museum focuses on exhibitions, with art that is both selected and commissioned from primarily Mediterranean artists.
The curatorial team did a nice job on the animal exhibit, balancing different media and aspects of the topic.
There's a nice rooftop cafe and small store.
