National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium

I had a wonderful time at the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium! There is an incredible variety of marine life and exotic fish to see. At only 250 NT for a student ticket, it is an absolute steal and a great deal for travelers on a budget. I highly recommend visiting on a sunny day so you can enjoy the stunning ocean views outside the museum as well. Definitely a must-visit!

We stayed for the overnight camping and it was lots of fun. It sort of reminds me of the movie “the night at the museum” vibe, except the animals coming alive part. We got to go behind the scenes and touched different type of fish. We got up close and personal with lots of different attractions we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. You can ask whatever questions you might have to the group tour guide. We learned about tide pools and how to protect our marine animals. The food was delicious and endless refills on whatever you find fancy. We stayed at the kelp forest section and the bedding was even better than our hotel from the previous night. It was a bit cold as we were close to the penguin section but the duvet blanket took care of the chill. I wish we live closer so we can go again. Highly recommend!

Pretty great aquarium overall. We did the sleep over in penguin 🐧 exhibit area which pretty great experience. We had a guided tour at night and the early morning you can also walk around the whole place without any real crowds (or people constantly doing 🤳 selfies everywhere)

One of the best marine aquarium that i have been to. Fine details to the decor and setup and they even paid attention to the texture of the walls and railing. Great info and preservation of the blue whale.. the staff are very dedicated and friendly. Must try their overnight stay experience. Well worth the price.

Hands down one of the best if not the best Aquariums I have ever been to. We are in off season (November) so it wasn't crowded. What we loved about it was the detailed scientific information they provide about marine life, history and the environment. Their presentation of information and data is clear and concise. They don't have all possible live mammals and sealife but a well presented number that in the oceans around Taiwan. The most impressive in the Coral Reef section is the three level tank where you walk through clear tubes around and through a sunken shipwreck with fish, rays and sharks swimming around. There many other large tanks with more sharks, rays, crabs, star fish, etc. There is also Taiwan island sections that shows the different water environments of the island. They have a Penguin exhibit with types and a feeding show. They have aome Puffins also and a feeding show. We saw only one seal though it was supposed to be a few. The only disappointing thing we saw was that had two Beluga whales in a tank but they have had them for quite awhile. They are beautiful and seemed to be well taken care of. There is much to see there and it well designed for families with small children. The grounds are very very clean and the facilities are well maintained.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Having visited aquariums in several countries, I honestly think the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium (NMMBA) in Pingtung is the largest and most spectacular of them all! The interpreters inside are incredibly professional—they don't just recite scripts; the interaction is engaging and insightful. The only downside is the transportation; it is a bit out of the way. However, for this experience, the long journey is absolutely worth it. Overall Assessment: World-class curation scale, an ocean academic base worth a special trip. Having visited aquariums and maritime museums around the world, the "National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium" (NMMBA) in Pingtung, Taiwan, is undoubtedly world-class in terms of its scale and the intricate simulation of ecosystems. It is not merely a space for displaying fish, but a comprehensive venue combining academic research, conservation education, and tourism. If I had to describe it in one sentence: "It is worth spending a whole day here to rediscover the ocean within this blue pulse."

Very good aquarium! There are a lot of tanks filled with so many fish and there are lots of exhibits. Currently they have a whale, prehistoric, deep sea, polar and Taiwan water exhibit and they have lots of gift shops, maybe even more than the displays! There are three buildings but one was closed. A lot of the things were closed which was disappointing and the food was ok. There are lots of ice-cream stalls though. Taxis are available.

It is one of Taiwan's most prestigious and popular tourist attractions. It's not just an aquarium but a world-class research and conservation institution. The museum is divided into three main exhibition buildings, each with a unique theme. Waters of Taiwan,Coral Kingdom,Waters of the World,Sunken Ship / Whale Waterfall. It's a top-tier attraction that should be on any Taiwan travel itinerary. It is highly recommanded for families event.

Biggest aquarium in Taiwan. Easy parking. I like how the different sections are separated and they are continuously expanding. There are a lot of interactive areas for children and also suitable for adults. Their big tank is amazing and there's usually someone there explaining all the fish and habitats to everyone. They also have a pair of beluga whales. Not much exciting food choices but there is a Starbucks. Gift shop and other stores are a little more on the old fashioned outdated side. Definitely a lot of different fish to explore and they change small tanks from time to time.

I visiting this museum/aquarium during my time in Kenting, which is in Southern Taiwan. It's a short motorbike away from the main strip of Kenting, but it will require some planning to visit as the public transit is pretty sparse and taxis are decently expensive to go roundtrip. As someone who does aquatic biology research and has gone to most of the famous and large aquariums in the world, I still really enjoyed the National Museum of Marine Biology in Taiwan. There was a lot of exhibits, especially ones that are about Taiwan which you can't find anywhere else. They also have touch pools and interactive shows. The star of the show/aquarium were the beluga whales. Although I do feel bad about them being enclosed in a tank as they are smart and big, it was really amusing to interact with them and chase them around the tunnel. Entrance fees are pretty cheap (under $20USD per person) and the food and snacks inside are cheap and will keep you entertained if you don't fancy the swimming creatures. If you want to see the fish in the aquarium up close, go scuba diving or snorkeling. You won't be disappointed! There are coral reefs and no lack of reef fish.

This museum is very large and full of difference species of Taiwan's marine life. I definitely would recommended for those that are outside visitors considering the price and the amount of animals to view/activities they have. It was about $15 per ticket for adults.
