I visiting this museum/aquarium during my time in Kenting, which is in Southern Taiwan. It's a short motorbike away from the main strip of Kenting, but it will require some planning to visit as the public transit is pretty sparse and taxis are decently expensive to go roundtrip.
As someone who does aquatic biology research and has gone to most of the famous and large aquariums in the world, I still really enjoyed the National Museum of Marine Biology in Taiwan. There was a lot of exhibits, especially ones that are about Taiwan which you can't find anywhere else. They also have touch pools and interactive shows.
The star of the show/aquarium were the beluga whales. Although I do feel bad about them being enclosed in a tank as they are smart and big, it was really amusing to interact with them and chase them around the tunnel.
Entrance fees are pretty cheap (under $20USD per person) and the food and snacks inside are cheap and will keep you entertained if you don't fancy the swimming creatures.
If you want to see the fish in the aquarium up close, go scuba diving or snorkeling. You won't be disappointed! There are coral reefs and no lack of reef fish.
