National Observatory of Athens - Thissio Visitor Center

Visited the observatory at 22:00, after greek visitors. We were in a group of 15 persons. Bought tickets by arriving at the entrance. We observed the moon through a portable telescope, the real one is currently in maintenance. Open only 3 nights per week Good moment

If you should find the National Observatory of Athens closed, when you arrive, during your visit, as I did in August. Rather than leave, explore a little. You may find that the grounds surrounding the Observatory itself are open to the public, providing the opportunity to view Athens from an unobstructed vantage point. If you're looking for a quiet spot, offering a great view of the city. Without having to wait in line in the city center, this is a great choice.

I went here for the tour at 10pm. It is in English. I enjoyed it. The best part of this tour was the observation. The night I went was totally clear, so, observation depends of the weather. But if there is no right conditions the inside of the museum is good enough. You'll see a copy of the Antikythera mechanism and other cool things. Everything is guided at least in the tour in English language. The guide is an astrophysicist lady from Greece.

A visit to the National Observatory of Athens in the evening is an experience you won't forget. The tour starts at the Geoastrophysics museum and concludes with a view of the night sky through the Doridis telescope, which is over 100 years old. It's impossible to put into words the entire experience.. A must-see while exploring Athens! Fun fact: You'll also get to see the first topographic map of the Moon from the 19th century!

Amazing experience. The National Observatory of Athens and especially the picturesque Thissio premises are a "live reminder" of the modern scientific history of Greece and a bearer of the future of Greek science. The tour included a visit to the museum which is full of historical instruments, books and telescopes used in the past, as well as to the Doridis telescope, a 16" wide and 5m long impressive refractor hosted in a dome. The tour was implemented by very competent and enthusiastic guides who were able to capture the audience's attention and convey their passion for Astronomy. The visit was an experience worth doing and I will do it again with the first opportunity. Congratulations

This is a must-do on the list of things to hit while in Athens. It was so cool to hear about the history of the observatory and then getting to actually look through the telescope was awesome. The view of the Acropolis from up here is insane as well. For 5 euros and an hour of your time, you have to do this. Greek tour is at 9pm, with an English one at 10pm. They're on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Awesome place to visit. They have night tours when you can learn about the observatory and even look through it telescope. Also the view is amazing, you can look at the Acropolis and the rest of the city.
