As a Canadian visiting Prague, attending a performance at the National Theatre was a highlight of my trip. The building itself is stunning, with its grand facade and opulent interiors, making it an experience even before the show begins. The rich history of the theatre is palpable as soon as you step inside, with intricate architectural details that transport you to another era. I attended an opera performance, and it was nothing short of spectacular. One thing I appreciated was the subtitles provided above the stage, which made it easy to follow along with the story, even though I don’t speak Czech. The emotions conveyed through the music and acting were powerful, but having the subtitles definitely enhanced my understanding of the performance. The orchestra added to the atmosphere, making the entire experience feel truly world-class. One minor downside was that the seats were a bit tight and uncomfortable after sitting for a long time, but it didn’t detract much from the overall experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable evening. For anyone visiting Prague, the National Theatre is a must-see, whether you’re an opera fan or simply want to appreciate the beauty of this cultural gem. Four stars for an unforgettable night!

An incredible theatre experience! I went to see Carmen, and everything was flawless—from the stunning view to the exceptional orchestra. The ambiance, acoustics, and overall atmosphere made it truly unforgettable. A must-do for any theatre or opera lover!

We took a tour of the National Theatre today in Prague. What an amazing and beautiful experience. The only way to see all aspects of this theatre is to book a guided tour online and in advance. The National Theatre was built in 1881 and designed by Architects: Josef Zítek, Josef Schulz. The architecture of the building is stunning. Such amazing detail. The statues on the building are massive and awe inspiring. The ceilings showcase amazing paintings. There are so many levels to this amazing structure. The furniture and wood work is stunning. No way to put this building into proper words. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and friendly. We loved our visit and cannot recommend a tour to see this marvel in person on a visit to Prague. Please book in advance as tours fill up quickly sometimes weeks in advance.

Located in a very nice place right next to the river, the building is very well maintained, we visited to watch the premier of "Scheherazade" which was a very nice experience. The room for your legs in the seats is not big which made the experience a bit unpleasant, but this was overall my only complaint.

Historic opera house in Prague, Czech Republic. It is known as the alma mater of Czech opera, and as the national monument of Czech history and art. The National Theatre belongs to the most important Czech cultural institutions, with a rich artistic tradition, which helped to preserve and develop the most important features of the nation–the Czech language and a sense for a Czech musical and dramatic way of thinking. Today the National Theatre consists of three artistic ensembles: opera, ballet and drama. They alternate in their performances in the historic building of the National Theatre, in the State Opera, in the Estates Theatre and in the Kolowrat Theatre. All three artistic ensembles select their repertoire both from classical heritage, and modern authors.

We went to see Turandot, and it was a great experience. We bought the tickets the day before with a student discount, which made going to see the opera even better! 10/10 One thing I disliked was that we weren’t allowed to bring the drinks we had just purchased at the bar in the theatre into the theater. Additionally, no one at the bar informed us that it didn’t make sense to order a drink at that moment since the intermission would be ending in just one minute.

Yelp
Built in 1877, this theater is beautiful inside and outside! But don't just come look at it...experience it! Theater tickets in Prague about 1/3rd the cost of seeing a live show in America, take advantage! I enjoyed an amazing presentation of Carmen, my first time! Loved it! For $35, I got a seat inside a semi private box, which I think would been at least $100 anywhere in America. Be sure to dress up a notch than your usual crappy travel wear...dress shirt and khakis/slacks at minimum for men.

Yelp
Beautiful renascentist facade building, finished in 1877 but was inaugurated in 1881 with the opera Libuše. It's worth the visit from the outside. Hermoso edificio de estilo neorenacentista del 1877 pero inaugurado el 1881 con la ópera Libuše. Vale la pena la visita desde afuera.

Yelp
An amazing theatre which should be experienced by as many people as possible. We attended it to see Lohengrin (Wagner's opera) and it was a wonderful spectacle with accompanying excellent acoustics from the orchestra.

Yelp
Wonderful experience. The interior is beautiful--you need to go to each landing--and you can go to the roof to get some city shots across the river. The play was also great--it was in a foreign language but you can follow along somewhat for the scenery. Be sure to get directions to your seating, they have double stairways on each side which is a bit confusing. Highly recommend if you get a chance to spend the evening here!
