Great way to spend a few hours getting your history fix. There is plenty to see and learn about in the house, and most of the rooms have volunteers in that are more than happy to have a chat. What was particularly interesting is that you get to see the lower rooms in the house, not just the more grand rooms where the family would have lived. There is a nice collection of vintage cars and carriages that were used at some point in the dim and distant past. The grounds are stunning and very well maintained. There is a nice pond that is full of carp that seemed quite happy to come and say hello at the waters edge. In the courtyard, before you enter the house there is a secondhand book shop, restaurant, and ice parlour to enjoy. Dogs are allowed but only in certain areas, so if you want the full experience, leave your furry friends at home for this one. Outside of the walled area of the gardens there are loads of things to see, so if you are only here for the day give yourself plenty of time to explore.
