A New Side of the Black Forest—From Designer Cuckoo Clocks to Revitalized Bathhouses | Condé Nast Traveler

"In this protected swath of woodland, a young ranger cohort is letting the forest get wilder again: spruce, fir, and beech thrive; fallen trees are left to nourish the ecosystem; and endangered or near-extinct species—adders, garden dormice, three-toed woodpeckers, wood grouse, and fungi like lemon yellow Trametes and “white icicle” Hericium flagellum—are returning. Veering off the narrow path isn’t advised, less for fear of Grimm’s witches than to safeguard this precious wilderness." - Christine Mortag

This national park is so beautiful. The nature here is really wild and the forest looks really as it is colored into black how much dense it is. Just walking there, admiring tall of the plants, mushrooms, and huge trees, it is so peaceful and so useful for taking a deep breath. Moreover, you have many traces to many places which you can follow, so not even weeks are enough long time for exploring this forest.

Beautiful nature and a lot of hiking trails to explore the drive through the park as also very beautiful. You can see different farms. There are free range cows and we saw a deer farm on the road too. I heard that there are ticks so make sure to get vaccinated or cover your body while you’re going hiking here.

An incredible place. The most beautiful forest I've ever seen. Well-marked trails and wonderful regional food. I highly recommend it.

Fantastic nature reserve in the middle of Germany. Great activities for kids and grown-ups alike. Lots of nature. Zero noise.

Parking fills up fast so get there early. But people did park along the side of the road. This is a beautiful (2 mile round trip) moderate hike. There are some up hills, but manageable. I hiked the trail in sneakers. There are people from all age groups hiking this trail. Make sure to bring water on warmer days. The trail can get crowded, but it is wide enough to accommodate everyone. You can do a loop by following the yellow and white markers at the back end instead of one way in, one way out. There are ruins along the way and a cafe/bar when you reach the ruins.

The trail here was great. Steep climb up past the waterfalls but it is well designed and well maintained. There were places to buy drinks—beer, water, schnapps—no matter which direction you walked the trail. The hike was shaded almost the entire time so it was perfect for a bright, hot morning or afternoon.

Beautiful black forest with an easily accessible waterfall which you can get increasingly better views via a stair case. The steps are easy to climb and leads to the ruins of an old monastery. Lots of benches to take a break too.

Beautiful forest, nice walking/hiking routes. Loud noises when you are still close to the road. Well-kept forest without garbage, comfortable walking paths.
