Native Sounds

We recently purchased some flutes and drums from this shop and had a great experience. A special thanks to Mr. RedHawk for his kindness and support—he was incredibly helpful throughout the process. Wishing continued success and all the best to the shop!

We had taken the train to Santa Fe on a whim, so we were on foot and decided to see if there were any music stores within walking distance. I have grown accustomed to finding only tourist versions of Native Flutes in the shops we visit, so walking in to Native Sounds and finding the shop full of high-quality and reasonably priced instruments was pretty unexpected! Sky Redhawk was very soft spoken and genuine, and he allowed me to get familiar with quite a few of the flutes he had on display. All of the flutes were Beautiful; each with a unique voice, but I eventually gravitated toward the locally-crafted “chris ti coom” flutes. In all honesty… My companion and I had only come to Santa Fe for a cup of coffee and maybe a nice lunch, but I left with the only flute in the key of Fm that I have ever played (not one of the more common keys for a flute). Sky Redhawk reminded me that my feet had only directed me to the place where I was supposed to be at that moment. I am So Grateful and Blessed that I was able to introduce this wonderful instrument to my family of flutes, and to be able to play my morning prayer on it the next morning as the sun was rising over the Sandias on the summer solstice, 6/20/2025. What a magical experience. We walked in and Mr. Sky Redhawk helped my husband try and purchase a new flute. He showed us his personal collection of flutes and told us the story of how the red headed woodpecker gifted the flute to the people and played us one of his songs on the flute. It was a healing and spiritual experience for us. We will never forget our visit.

I don’t play and wasn’t going to buy a flute, but Mr. Redhawk took the time to tell me about the flute as an instrument and playing it. He shared some of the stories behind his music and even played. He even signed one of his CDs for me. Grateful for a lovely afternoon with a true gentleman.

What a wonderful soul Sky is. My husband and I were there last month. His shop smells amazing and is so calming to the spirit. My husband bought a flute and I bought all the ingredients to duplicate that beautiful smudge. We've been burning it every day. We loved talking with him! Sky, tell me again what I say to Kevin Locke. Sky will calm your soul. We are so grateful that we stumbled upon his shop. Don't miss it.

We stopped in today to Sky RedHawk's small store and had a wonderful experience! He is very friendly and knowledgeable as well as being an amazing musician and ambassador of his Lakota heritage. So grateful to have met him and listened to his stories!

It has been a while since I have been here. I hold Sky and this sacred business in reverence and divine true light. Not only was Sky informative and kind, he was memorable and inspiring. I bought a few High Spirit flutes from here over a period of a few years I was visiting Santa Fe more regularly. I was thinking about this location and am feeling called to make a trek just for the sake of visiting the store. Thank you for activating the heart and walking in a good way!

A genuinely patient hands on owner. A Native American, he shares his memories and knowledge freely. The shop is small but has an amazing collection of flutes and drums (hand made) and a selection of Sky Redhawk's own music (written/produced/created by himself). The music is unique, stirring and inspiring. A small shop in size, but large in impact.

This is a true treasure in Santa Fe. I bought my first Native American flute from Sky RedHawk a number of years ago, and just before COVID I re-visited and bought another. I live on the East Coast, so my visits are rare, but my conversations with Sky have all been memorable delights. And the shop is a wonder of hand-crafted objects as well as flutes.
