We had taken the train to Santa Fe on a whim, so we were on foot and decided to see if there were any music stores within walking distance. I have grown accustomed to finding only tourist versions of Native Flutes in the shops we visit, so walking in to Native Sounds and finding the shop full of high-quality and reasonably priced instruments was pretty unexpected! Sky Redhawk was very soft spoken and genuine, and he allowed me to get familiar with quite a few of the flutes he had on display. All of the flutes were Beautiful; each with a unique voice, but I eventually gravitated toward the locally-crafted “chris ti coom” flutes. In all honesty… My companion and I had only come to Santa Fe for a cup of coffee and maybe a nice lunch, but I left with the only flute in the key of Fm that I have ever played (not one of the more common keys for a flute). Sky Redhawk reminded me that my feet had only directed me to the place where I was supposed to be at that moment. I am So Grateful and Blessed that I was able to introduce this wonderful instrument to my family of flutes, and to be able to play my morning prayer on it the next morning as the sun was rising over the Sandias on the summer solstice, 6/20/2025. Thank you Sky Redhawk! Jeff 5
