A Rat Lover's Tour of the World

"Created at the end of the 1800s, this beautiful museum has a rich collection of both minerals and animals (skeletons and taxidermy) and a nice vivarium. The collection of bird taxidermy is especially rich with some rare and fascinating specimens. Among the rarities is a hidden treasure — an extremely rare and even mythical phenomenon known as the “Rat King”. It is said in folklore that sometimes a group of rats can get their tails knotted together in an inextricable way. They will spend the rest of their lives joined together, sometimes even getting their skin welded together, becoming a kind of monstrous single entity dependent on its community for food. Most reported cases have occurred in Germany, and only a handful of cases can be found in museums, including this one consisting of nine rats preserved in an alcohol bath. This phenomenon is unexplained and the specimens are often considered hoaxes and belonging to the field of cryptozoology. As well as dead specimens, the museum also holds a collection of live animals including several very cool venomous and constrictor snakes.  Pictures and filming are allowed in this museum." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

A museum that's not overly large but full of wonderful works. I really appreciated the idea of creating a "second floor" dedicated to birds in the main hall. I would just like to suggest a better arrangement of the works, as some, protected behind glass, are partially covered by the wood of the windows. Other than that, the museum remains unique, thanks in part to its collection of rocks from outer space, which I really appreciated. The main entrance and its rustic, nature-inspired interiors are very beautiful.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this place. I'm an animal lover, so the specimens are worth the visit. Great place to bring kids. You can finish it in a few hours. The specimens of taxidermy take the longest. There's a geological section on the ground floor.

The museum has a big collection of all, rocks, minerals, fossils, snakes, and stuffed animals, but it lacks plants and historical information of the region. The lighting was not made with care, so it's not very good. I would say it's more a fun tour for kids than adults, except if you search for something specific, and even so, not much information is provided. The good news is that they will completely renovate soon.

It is a very cute museum. There is a lot to see here. Besides precious stones, every species of animals and birds has been preserved. It is a great place especially for children.💙💞🇫🇷
