20 Best Swimming Holes in the U.S.

"Two natural waterslides formed where a creek has carved winding channels through rock in Ohiopyle State Park, Pennsylvania. Thrill-seekers can whoosh down the rock channels; follow the Meadow Run Trail to reach them." - Talia Avakian Talia Avakian Talia Avakian is a lifestyle reporter based in Los Angeles with a love for outdoor excursions, off-the-beaten-path local finds, remote and historic hotels, and innovations in food. We really enjoyed exploring this area. It was very crowded lots of people going down the slides - adults and kids. Many of the kids had helmets and some had life jackets. Both are good ideas. If you decide to try the slides be prepared for lots of bumps, bruises and scrapes. I chose to be a spectator. Rocks can be very slippery. We saw lots of people fall, one twisted ankle and plenty of injuries mentioned earlier. We walked up the rocks and found quieter places to cool off with the dogs.

Such a fun and refreshing experience! The natural waterslide at Ohiopyle is a smooth rock formation where the creek flows just right—turning it into a real slide carved by nature. The water is cold, the ride is bumpy, and yes... you will get wet 😄 It's perfect for adventurous kids, teens, and adults. Just be careful—the rocks can be slippery, so wear good water shoes and brace for a few bumps along the way. A must-try if you’re visiting Ohiopyle in the summer!

absolutely beautiful place! from hiking in all seasons, to sliding and jumping in the summer, this place is incredible! rocks are slippy, bring water shoes!

Really neat natural waterslide. There's a well signed parking lot and steps down to the rocks. There were lots of people (but it didn't feel crowded) but few actually going on the waterslide. We didn't let our kids go after a guy in his 20's had trouble getting up the bank. But it was still super fun to explore by climbing over the rocks and getting our feet wet in shallow water. My point is, if the natural water slides look like too much, there's still lots to do without going on them. Downstream, there was a deep pool where kids were jumping off an eight foot ledge into the water.

enjoyed our time! the long natural water slide was rushing to bad but they had a smaller calmer area and it was great!

It was a wonderful experience. This place is beautiful and you can even hike to find the Cucumber water fall.

Great place with hidden adventures. The view in this part of the park is very nice, with the water slides surrounded by trees and rocks. For the more adventurous, it is possible to slide in the water and even find unbelievable places that are so carved by water that one can dive deep and stay all under water. We found a local person that explained these places to our group and to others that were thrilled to experience the cold water on a colder day.

Super cool natural water feature. It was a bit chilly to get in the water the day we visited, but this would be an absolute blast on a hot day. It’s also just beautiful. The full slide is definitely more intimidating, but there are plenty of calmer spots of water for younger kids to play in at the top and bottom. Parking can get tight, especially in the afternoons and on the weekends. Would definitely get here early if it’s a nice day.
