Natuurcentrum Ameland

Not big but still have something can see and story. Btw all are in Dutch. And also cam use museumkaart for free.

My husband and I visited this incredible museum and absolutely loved it. We went during our school holidays, which did not coincide with the holidays in Ameland. As a result, the museum wasn’t very busy, allowing us to walk right in with our museum cards and enjoy a leisurely, nearly two-hour tour.

Nice outing for the price. Lots to see. The aquariums were nice (but not very overwhelming) Nice to know some history about the island, but not much to look at. The little one also really enjoyed the barefoot path. Good fun to get a little dirty. The pebbles and wood chips felt less pleasant on the bare feet though.

Content is very interesting en interactive, but not always up to date. You have to pay extra to do the bare-feet-path, but this path is not well maintained and thus not suitable for bare feet (we saw even a piece of glass!)

It's nice to look around a bit. I liked their aquarium. The other parts of the centre are mainly aimed towards kids. You can get a great view of Ameland from their tower.

Fun museum! Interesting information about the natural history of the island and the Dutch engineering that was done to keep the coast line. Also a lot of info about the ecosystems in Ameland and why they are important worldwide.

Nature museum which was surprisingly thoughtful and full of things to do. My kids (8 years old) really loved this. The barefoot walk (bloetenvoetenpad) was really well done, though a bit painful! -1 star for the quite dull fish eating explanation, and could use a bit of a update in general.

I know this place for quite some time now I went there pretty much every time I was on Ameland. My first few visits even were in the old building with the big whale "statue". And because of the long history of my family with the island in general, both my grandmother and grandfather where on one of the old video clips from where they cut open a whale that was found dead on the strand. Even though I visited this place that often I would definitely visit it again, and even though it isn't the biggest museum I've seen so far that one is one of my favorites just because you are able to see everything you learned about every now and then in the rest te of your holidays.
