Just returned from a terrific week at Navini Island. ||Pick-up / Return -- The transfer from (and later, to) the airport was seamless. A driver met me at the airport and took me to the port, where a boat was waiting to take me and my luggage directly to the resort. After a 30-minute boat ride, the manager and staff met me at the beach and gave me an overview of the property. My room was ready at 7:00 a.m., but if it hadn't been, there is also a day room on site for guests to use while their rooms are being readied. I used the day room on my last day -- my flight back to the United States wasn't until 10:00 p.m., and I made use of the room until my 4:00 p.m. boat ride back to the port (where, again, I was met by a driver arranged by the hotel, who took me to the airport). ||My room -- Very nice. The room was clean and had a nice bed (I slept well all week) with a powerful fan above it. The windows were all screened, with louvred glass so you can get as much or as little breeze as you want. The bathroom was spacious and had soap and other toiletries. (Some premium deluxe bures had outdoor showers; mine did not.) I spent a lot of time on the daybed and the two lounge chairs along the beach, right outside the room. I could not connect to wifi from my room. (The resort gives you a complimentary broadband allotment; reception is best from the shared dining / bar area). I was able to connect to the T-Mobile network from my room, however. ||Grounds -- Beautiful! The resort occupies a six-acre island. The bures are along the outer perimeter of the island, as is the communal dining / bar area. Lots of plumeria trees and other flowering trees and bushes line the interior trails that connect the bures with one another and the communal areas. ||Staff -- Wonderful, and one of the highlights of the trip. The staff are exceptionally friendly and thoughtful. Over the course of the week you get to know the staff quite well. A staff member may have multiple jobs at the resort (i.e., boat captain / maintenance / lead guitar player for nightly concerts), and some have been working at the resort for many years. ||Food -- For a resort this size, Navini offered a very impressive array of options every breakfast, lunch and dinner. There were about 10 main options for every breakfast and about half as many for each lunch and dinner. Fresh fish was always on the menu, as was ice cream for dessert.||Excursions -- The planned excursion for most of the days I was there involved a snorkeling trip to a nearby reef, which left the island either early in the morning, shortly after breakfast (around 9:15-9:30 a.m.) or in the mid-afternoon, shortly after lunch (around 2:15-2:30 p.m.). The reefs I went to were all very nice, but none were leagues ahead of the house reef that circles Navini Island itself, which was outstanding. Many of the guests while I was there would go out on the house reef during the morning when there was an afternoon excursion planned, or vice-versa. I also chartered one of the resort's ships for a daytrip to Modriki Island, where they shot the island scenes in the movie "Castaway." (Which is about 45 minutes from the island by boat, each way.) ||Other notes: If you go (you should!) keep in mind that although there's a small store in the resort's office, it isn't stocked like a full pharmacy. So if you like to be on the safe side, bring OTC medications with you. ||In short, Navini was a wonderful place to unwind for a week.
