Bizarrely was told no guided tour but there was one. That said it's perfectly possible to look around yourself and it's a very impressive and interesting site. 124 steps from carpark and steep.

A stunning prehistoric site near Villaperuccio, the Sa Pranedda necropolis features around 40 domus de janas carved into a natural amphitheater. Rich in history and adorned with ancient carvings, it's one of Sardinia’s most important archaeological treasures.

You can't find anything similar elsewhere! We were in a small group so we could ask all the questions and the tour guide Laura shared all the info. She was very passionate in telling the history, not only about this site but connecting the info to all the places in Sardinia.

I'm really happy to have visited this magic place. I came twice. My mind can believe some tombs and the road are 6000 years old and so gratly kept!!! . The place has a magic, peaceful atmosphere. It is very well kept, and the guides are good (or even excellent depending on your luck). I am surprised that it is not crowded at all... it is better to arrive 30.mins before the guided tours to have a look at the information in the ticket/souvenirs shop, very well done. It is fully recommended.

Montessu archeological site is wonderful! You cannot miss it if you are planning to visit South of Sardinia. The site is unique because it collects every kind of prehistorical tombs, deriving from different periods of human history. It is on a hill. You can visit it by youself, but I recommend to visit it with the guide, who is includer into the ticket prize. The tour lasts about 1 h and 30 minutes and you will learn a lot! Our guide was very nice and prepared too!

Maybe I would have enjoyed it more and gotten more out of it if I had gone with a guide but that didn't seem to be an option when I showed up. The man in the office said it's about 90 minutes to do the whole thing...I must have walked fast because I was done in 45 and even went to the high path to see some of the other tombs not listed as "the best/most interesting" on map he gave me. I wish the tombs had numbers placed near them to correspond with the map for ease and clarity. In addition, a more clearly marked path to the upper tombs with the silhouette of a woman would have been helpful. I wanted to see that, but couldn't find the route there.
