We booked two nights at this hotel through Booking.com because the photos looked decent and the reviews seemed acceptable. However, don’t be fooled by the pictures and ratings! The price for two nights was not very high (CAD 282.50), but considering the amenities and breakfast, it’s definitely not worth it. The room is extremely basic: two beds, one table, and a single chair – nothing more. There is a kitchen, but it’s completely unequipped: no dishes, no pans, not even a kettle! Breakfast was also disappointing. You’re allowed to choose only five items – and coffee already counts as one of them. Our conclusion: better to spend a bit more and stay at a nicer hotel in Toronto.

Was in Toronto for my first time for a memorial summer 2024. Had it not been for this hotel I wouldn’t have been able to afford the 4-5 days I’d stayed. Room rates were around $80-$100 per night and it comes with a complimentary breakfast and coffee in the mornings. The front desk was friendly, helpful, and very professional. I found my stay to be quiet and my belongings safe while I was out for the day. The waterfront, hockey hall of fame, and Yonge st are a short walk away and I found it easy to navigate while exploring the city. It’s a classic actual key for the room, and yes the kitchen and washrooms are communal. However there are no dishes in the kitchen (this isn’t the Hilton; you get what you pay for). Wasn’t an issue as there’s a Harvey’s nearby and a small restaurant beneath as well. Keep in mind that Toronto in the summer is extremely humid, however they have fans in the rooms and the windows (with screens) do open so I found it easier to sleep despite temperature being around 30-35 degrees in July. The cleaning crew was consistent and took great care of my room daily. Despite the appearance, there were no insects bed bugs mice or roaches etc, and I was thankful for that too. This place is a relatively long way from the Toronto airport however, so expect the uber or taxi to cost a fair amount. Alternatively, there’s the train from union station which was cheaper, but also a longer travel time. If I were to go to Toronto again on a low budget, this place would be my first stop again. Thanks to the great staff that helped!

Positives: Friendly staff, good location and comes with breakfast. Negatives: Having symptoms of heatstroke as I assumed the vents on the floor meant they had aircon. Woke up with a throbbing headache and feeling nauseous. If you stay in the summer open the windows (even then the rooms will still be way too hot). Shared bathroom (which was at least clean though). Wasn’t explicitly clear that I had to pay a deposit, came as a surprise during check in. You get what you pay for but I feel physically awful atm so I don’t think I could ever stay here again.

I recently stayed one night at Neill Wycik Hotel and found it to be a decent option for budget travelers. The room I booked was small and simple, with no frills—just the basics, which was fine for a short stay. It’s worth noting that the bathroom is shared, so if you’re looking for more privacy, this might be a consideration. What really stood out, though, was the rooftop terrace. The views from up there are absolutely stunning, offering a panoramic lookout that more than makes up for the basic accommodations. It was a perfect spot for sunrise. Breakfast was included in the stay, which was a nice touch. The selection was simple but satisfying. If you're good on your feet, you can easily walk from the city center to the hotel, which is super convenient for exploring without needing to rely on transportation. Overall, the hotel offers good value for the price. If you’re looking for luxury, this isn’t the place, but if you need a simple, affordable stay with an incredible view, this hotel does the job well.

I stayed a few nights there. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was small, had a bed, some shelves, a desk with chair and a fan (meaning no AC). They charge you $20 extra to check in more than 1h early in case your room is already ready which I have never seen anywhere in the world. For breakfast, you get to choose 5 items from the cafe downstairs which does the job to fill you up. The 23rd floor has a rooftop which has nice views. I enjoyed the location and a grocery store is very close by. They would have to change the locks because it's more like a hit or miss to enter your room. The shared bathrooms were find but not too big. Some of the shelves in my room were broken or had lots of candle wax on them. I wouldn't offer something like that but ok. It's a huge apartment building where people also just live.

Perfect location for our visit. We had a good experience. The breakfast that was included was adequate. You get to pick 5 items from the cafe. The staff was nice. There was a bit of a scene in the cafe the morning before we left where the police were called. I won't say the hotel is unsafe, but you get what you pay for. I love how it is located close to downtown and the price is reasonable. The neighbourhood is somewhat sketchy. I don't mind it, but it might not be what less adventurous people are looking for. The location near Allan Gardens is nice. We enjoyed visiting the greenhouse while we wee there.

Yelp
This place is perfect if you enjoy hostile architecture and want to get the perfect asylum chic vibe for your stay. I'd recommend it for anyone with no possible other options that needs a place to crash and can put up with feeling like they're in a particularly miserable little psych ward room. Be aware: if a friend decides to crash with you after you've made the booking for one person, you can't do that. There's no guests after 11pm, like a college dorm.

Yelp
I really have no idea who runs this business, but they should be ashamed of it. I made a reservation in January and a situation that kept me from going to Toronto made me have to cancel it; spoiler: I have not been able to cancel. Nobody answers neither emails, their phone number nor their social media; and to be completely honest, I'm starting to believe that this hotel doesn't even exist anymore.

Yelp
This hostel is adequate. The staff is nice and helpful when you need them. I stayed in early August. It was very humid and the staff provided fans for use in the rooms to make the humidity more bearable. The common areas have something to be desired. It's not much of a space to promote meeting people or making friends. It's not impossible but it's not as good as other places. The facility is neat but not very clean for the most part. There was a lot of dust in the room. The bathrooms had mold in the showers. Showers are also very small. Everything seemed to have a bit of a grimy feel. Lockers in the rooms were very small. Definitely not big enough to fit a backpack. Maybe only a toiletries bag but you still need to bring your own lock.

Yelp
This hostel is an example of the axiom, "You get what you paid for". I'm an American who visited Toronto from July 4 to July 7. Neill-Wycik is a college dorm that is converted to a hostel during the summer. It definitely isn't Holiday Inn. The floor that my room was on smelled like a men's locker room. The room is smaller than a NYC studio apartment. There is a communal bathroom and shower. The shower stall is literally the size of a phone booth. Guests at the hostel get a free continental breakfast every morning. The breakfast is basically bagels, cereal, juice, and/or coffee. And like another person said, you can't bring guests after 11 PM. So in other words, grown people are treated like college freshmen. I was on the fence between a 1 and a 2. There are a few things that brought the rating up to a 2. There is a rooftop patio with an impeccable view of downtown Toronto. You can't drink booze on the patio (a drunk person on a roof with no fence- What could possibly go wrong?). There's also free WiFi. The hostel is a 10-15 minute walk to Yonge-Dundas Square, which is in the heart of downtown Toronto. The rates are probably the lowest in Toronto. The only reason why I stayed at this hostel was because I really wanted to visit Toronto but couldn't afford to spend $200 a night on a hotel. Only come here as a last resort.

Yelp
The age old axiom of "you get what you pay for" somewhat sums up the experience. It's not bad really but it's not good either. Any time you spend in the room, you're going to be bored out of your mind because the room has a bed, and... I think that's pretty much it. No TV; any entertainment you're looking for will be better found amongst the drunk folk on the street below. If you're staying there in the summer, then you're probably going to be miserable because there isn't any air conditioning. But it is seriously on the cheap side, so if you plan to spend very little time in the room except maybe to pass out after a night of debauchery, then it'll work fine. If you're like me and you've outgrown your university days of sharing bathrooms with complete strangers, and you like the idea of being sweat free, keep looking. This place still has some pleasant nostalgic feelings associated with it though, because it was where I was staying when I met my girlfriend (you can say "awwww" now).

Yelp
The most I can give this place is 2 stars. The staff is friendly and welcoming so I have no complaints there. The room I stayed in was basic but clean with a bed, a desk and some hangers off a rod. There was no AC and on the 15th floor and it was pretty muggy when I walked in. I would have opened the window before the guest arrived to air out the room beforehand if I ran the place. But the shared bathroom was claustrophobic. You basically had a 2 foot by 2 foot stall for a shower and a toilet and sink in a very small space. I suppose it gets the job done but I would have at least expected a shower want in such tight confines rather than a fixed shower head (which would be an inexpensive $10 upgrade that I would recommend to management.) The free internet downstairs and at the top floor didn't work for me but the breakfast was OK. With that said, if you just need a place to sleep for the price it works. I originally gave this place a 2 star review but I am bumping it up to 3 star due to the fact that it is right downtown and super inexpensive. I'm pretty sure this is a college dorm for a lot of students which is fine.

Yelp
Stayed in the summer hotel in 1996 and someone in the staff gained entry to my room and stole my watch and jewellery and likely pawned it off for money. Other than that I had a roof over my head in a time of crisis and I met some cool friends.

Yelp
No A/C or fan in my 10th floor dormitory, I was covered in sweat almost immediately and had a very uncomfortable night sleep. Some people might be alright with that but I would definitely not recommend it to anybody. Nice people at the front desk but overall bad vibes throughout the building. Would not come back.

Yelp
Do not, under any circumstances, book a room in this godawful hellhole. The staff are incredibly rude, uptight and condescending. All the money on this establishment seems to have been spent on the unbelievably and ridiculously strict lobby security while the rooms themselves are an absolute disgrace. Good luck getting clean in a shower and bathroom constructed from pure filth. Everywhere you look, something is peeling, crumbling, coated with grime or giving you attitude. It's a nostalgic throwback to living at your parent's house where the doors lock at 11, you have to prove you live there to get in to your room EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU WALK THROUGH THE DOOR, and guests are only permitted during the day if they are signed in. Overall, a horrific disappointment and nauseating experience with horrendous policies, beauracracy like you've never seen it before, revolting rooms and bathrooms and equally revolting staff members who act more like prison guards. *If I could've given this dump 0 stars, I would have.

Yelp
Woohoo! As good as it gets! Neill-Wycik is such a warm & social community in the downtown jungle! Lived there for three years & fondly remember all the wonderful memories! Thanks NW, for being a safe & fun haven during my university years & my first home away from home!

Jay F.

Yelp
While this place may seem like it has great prices, some of the craziest policies you will have ever seen in your life, the agreement they make you sign gives them complete control to invade your privacy and harass you at any time, which these people will do, on a constant basis. This place is the biggest scam I have ever been involved with and have been harassed so much by this establishment that I had to leave a month early, and to no surprise was fined for that as well! The rooms are no bigger than any other dorm, and while the location may be good that really is the only thing going for this place. I seriously recommend you reconsider your choice as you will almost absolutely not enjoy your stay here.

Yelp
eeuuuwwwhh! my room smelled like a dirty person, even after rolling up the bed cover and putting it in a drawer. kitchens are available and nicely split between smaller sections of the floor; however, there are no utensils, no kettles or plates or mugs or glasses. nothing at all. which people should know before checking in. free breakfastis offered 7-11. wifi is only available in two uncomfortable overcrowded and noisy lounges, not in the rooms. tv lounge off the laundry room also REEKS of dirt and B.O. bathrooms are also pretty dirty. while friendly, staff not that professional and found myself interupted 3 times re checking out of room when I had sign on the door 'not to disturb' while I packed my things before 11:10, which was ridiculous.
