On the Grid : Neko Neko

"Another venue that is technically in Fitzroy (but locals will feel belongs to Collingwood all the same) is Neko Neko (or 'Cat Cat'). Being the new kid on the block, it's the latest incarnation of Smith St's Wabi Sabi Salon, a Japanese restaurant. Whether take away or eat in, both options are to die for! Try the kingfish dish (pictured below)! If you're a vegetarian, pescatarian or vegan you'll sure feel the love here as your choices will be many, and they will be good. Very good. The place is small but beautifully done. No detail has been spared and eating in makes for a singularly enjoyable experience. Sit on the front bench and watch the Fitzroy and Collingwood crowds swagger by." - Studio Fellow

Staff is lovely. They were going to close but they still took our order and they were so sweet... Not like other places where people will rush you to finish quick Food was delicious too, and I love the presentation and the ambience was amazing. If you prefer vegan and you like ramen, then this is a must try.

March 2024 I've been meaning to come back here for some time. I got a fresh salmon bento box, which was served on a plate, which was odd. And not cheap. This was average. They sell alcohol now, so I had warm sake, which was nice. My partner had a vegetarian or vegan ramen bowl, which was ok, but the soup lacked flavour. Overall, it was an average experience compared to previous visits, which have been amazing. ______________________________________ Tonight, I had vegan gyozas, spicy tofu ramen, tan tan sesame creamy ramen, and a mini vegan bean and potato burger To start, the vegan gyozas were absolutely delicious. Soft skins and a yummy filling. The vegan mini bean and potato burger was nice, but it needed some more sauce for me. My spicy ramen was missing some spice, but it was full of soy caramel flavoured soup base, which was absolutely amazing! The ramen had cashews, mushrooms, and other goodies. This was a major highlight. My partner had the vegan tan tan sesame creamy ramen, which was texturally really tasty and full of full of vegetables. With home delivery, this place is awesome and definitely worth trying. Previous review - December 2017 Hungry tonight, I really wanted some Japanese. I ordered some Broadbill tuna, which came in a bento box, and OMGosh, it was amazing!!! The vegies and sides that came with it were so fresh and tasty that they just melted in my mouth. The only improvement that I could suggest was that the tuna was a little dry. Maybe it was a little overcooked?? The accompanying sauce was excellent, though. My partner had a vegan ramen, which I tasted, and it was excellent. Once again, the flavours worked so well, and the broth was amazing!! It's just delicious... I am so trying that next time! This is one amazing restaurant, I can see why it was so packed tonight. This place is a MUST visit. Wow.

I ordered the Vegan Tan Tan Ramen, it tasted amazing! I have read people's reviews finding it too salty, I don't eat too much salt myself but I believe this is how the flavour should be and I enjoyed it. I would get it again. The customer service is standard, no smiles but if you are there for food, you won't really mind, it's not a bar at the end of the day. It is quite pricey so I would probably eat here every 3-4 months. We waited maybe 10-15 minutes for our 3 Ramon's and loved it. Very colourful, fresh, you can tell they take pride in their food. Cute and quiet atmosphere, some customers came alone. At one time there was maybe 6 people eating. I recommend this place if you have a little extra money to splurge.

Excellent menu, the perfect amount of options (not an overwhelming amount to choose from) with plenty of vegetarian/vegan and gluten free options. Various seating options, we sat at the communal triangle table in the centre which is great! Meals are tasty and wholesome. A gem for Gertrude 🍜

Love this place. The ramen broth I chose seemed a bit more oily than expected, but flavours were good. Service was excellent. You can tell the owner takes pride in Japanese cuisine and culture. Worth the dollars spent. Also great that custom orders could be made. Always appreciate a flexible kitchen.

Amazing vegan food here!! Super friendly and helpful staff, reasonably priced food and a great vibe. If you’re out on a date or just with friends / family, I definitely recommend it. Some of the best ramen in town and extra points for vegan food.

Excellent food! I’ve been walking through Fitzroy trying to figure what I want to eat for dinner and the “vegan ramen” sign caught my attention. I ordered one of their “must try” dishes - the vegan Agedashi with tofu and eggplant - and it is indeed a must try! Amazing flavours, very generous portion and incredibly delicious. Highly recommend!

Ordered the Spicy Tofu Ramen, Tan Tan Ramen and Vegan Gyoza. The food was good. I'm not a vegan so the taste for me was a bit different but my wife loved it. The location has a toilet in the back (through the kitchen).

Yelp
Excellent place for fresh Japanese food ! I have been there so many times and never been dissatisfied. Panko Salmon is my favorite! This place is being more and more crowded, but you can still order food to go if no more seats are available ! Enjoy!

Yelp
Great healthy and tasty option while I was in Melbourne. Cool decor if you like cats.

Yelp
I did enjoy the vegan ramen here but I happen to think a far superior ramen is just down the road (Shop Ramen) so I guess that tainted my opinion slightly. My friends dishes were not ramen and were a bit hit and miss.
