Conde Nast Traveler wrote an informative article about visiting La Paz in November 2021. As foodies, I was intrigued by the Upscale Dining Experiences it highlighted.
I was surprised we were able to get an early reservation at Nemi, one of the restaurants profiled. We were seated at 6pm and were the only diners in the restaurant. Our server told us it gets crowded between 8-10pm.
Chef Alex Villagomez opened the restaurant about 2.5 years ago. It has been recognized twice as one of the 100 best restaurants in Mexico. Previously he worked for 10 years at Mexico City's Pujol.
If you're looking for international cuisine, glorious flavors and artistically plated food, you are at the right place. Also be prepared for your check to be the highest for any meal on your vacation.
With three of us dining, we each tried a different starter and entrée.
For starters, we ordered the Chocolata Clams with rasdish and Mexican sauce, Burrata Cheese with cherry tomatoes and the Baked Beet Salad with goat cheese. Incredible flavors, accented with beautiful flowers. We agreed we could have ordered a second of each.
For entrees, we ordered the Braised Wagyu Beef Cheek with sweet potato puree, Fettuccine with shrimp and the Baked Short Rib. The Beef Cheeks as expected with incredibly tender, the Fettuccine was super rich and could have fed two and the Short Rib was a tad overcooked, but still delightful.
Although we were very full, we decided to share a dessert and ordered the deconstructed Key Lime Pie. It was amazing and allowed you to taste all the layers of the pie.
The Conde Nast recommendation was spot-on. We would love to return on another visit.
