"Fairbanks is a small Alaskan city known for its vibrant community and as a checkpoint in the Iditarod sled dog race. It serves as a gathering spot for locals, tourists, and volunteers who support the mushers during the race."

During our visit to Nenana in February 2024, we observed that most shops were closed. It appears that the majority of businesses in the area operate during the summer season, which is when the town experiences a surge in tourism. Despite the lack of open establishments, we were able to enjoy the scenic view of the frozen river and learn about the unique lottery tradition that is based on the timing of the river's thaw.

We went there today just to explore. It was about 11⁰ and it was beautiful. Small little Alaskan town. Every year they put a tripod on the iced River and see who can pick the time and date that it will tip over, I am told. It's definitely something I would like to see for myself. I hope to return back in June and see how it looks during the summer season. I love Alaska so far and look forward to exploring more.

Cool non profit really helping the local community, library, and school by keeping a fun guessing game going. Other than tripod days, no reason to seek out this businesses physical location.

This is one of the coolest things in Nenana, a 100+ year old tradition that symbolizes the coming of spring when they put a huge wooden tripod on the frozen river and place bets on when the ice will break up/melt and the tripod will float down river! Jackpot can be around $300k some years and it's really fun to make our guesses. It's so cool to see the real thing! Definitely recommend when you're in the area! There's a lot of fun information if you find the Nenana Ice Classic Fanpage on fb 😄

This was my first year doing the ice classic. I was so upset. The ice went out 3 days after my first date. Oh well. I'm definitely going to be doing it again next year.

Fun event; play every year. Easy to find tix in Fairbanks. I enjoy the webcam and historical data on the website.

Wa-a-a-a-a-y back in 2002, I placed a time and date, for the ice out. I missed by a mile!! I'll be back to place another (and hopefully more accurate time and date) sometime soon!
