Food:
After a semester exchange and multiple trips back to Vienna, Neni is by far my most frequented restaurant in the city. Having eaten here before and after going vegan, I am so impressed by the many vegan and non-vegan options. For my omnivorous friends, I can highly recommend the signature Shakshuka dish (incredible middle eastern tomato and egg dish, still suitable for vegetarians!). While that's always been my staple, on my most recent visit I opted for the house-made hummus and tofu burger and was not disappointed! I'd also recommend the Limonada on a hot day & perhaps an iced soy latte as well :) A highly unique menu, making it fun to bring friends who are looking for something more than a schnitzel in Wien.
Location:
Located in the heart of the famous open-air market in Vienna (called Naschmarkt), Neni is incredibly convenient and easy to get to either from the Kettenbrückengasse exit on the U4 line, or by taking a short walk from Karlsplatz. When the weather is nice, ask to sit outside to enjoy the lively market culture - it seems all of Vienna is here come summer!
Service:
Although the service isn't as quick as I'd expect in my native America, it is very standard for Austria/Europe. To me, what the staff may lack in the over-attentiveness I'm accustomed to stateside, they make up for in patience with my broken German (they all seem to speak fluent English, I just try to practice a bit) and willingness to talk through vegan options. There also seems to be quite a neat family-owned-business culture with Neni and her sons' pictures all over the restaurant.
Pricing:
Quite standard for a decent restaurant in Vienna. I'd expect to spend around 15 euros. However, note that Neni is CASH ONLY - something relatively standard in Vienna, yet difficult for this American to remember (there are ATMs nearby should you forget).
