Nervous Nellie's Jams and Jellies

Nervous Nellies Jams and Jellies has to be experienced. It is a destination worth driving hours to see. The work, imagination, craftsmanship, creative vision, visual storytelling of this artist is phenomenal. The art installations (not sure what the best word for these fabulously unique vignettes is) are amazing. It is a forest full of unique art, figures, scenes, buildings. Words didn't do this wonderous place justice. We spent a couple of hours here in a Tim Burton-esq fairytale. There is definitely a creepy vibe, which makes it even more fun. And of course we purchased some of the jams and jellies.

Amazing spot, super cool to visit, and 100% worth going out of the way to see. This was far more than just a store as the property is a ton of fun to walk. Each corner has another hidden gem that is fun to see.

It's a whole experience! We were expecting some novelties and a cute gift shop, but this is a whole ecclectic sculpture garden with over a dozen structures, dozens of scenes, and hundreds of unique characters! The grounds are free and paid for by donations and the gift shop. And oh lord, the gift shop! The jam, jelly chutney, and chocolate were all wonderful and the crafts for sale range from very Maine to outstandingly unique and original. Worth the few hour detour to get there, absolutely!

Unique place full of incredibly well-crafted upcycled materials, mainly antiques but designed into themes. Plan to spend a few hours. I thought I was just stopping by to check out jellies and spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around. The jelly is very good, and the gift shop has some tempting offers. I couldn't resist taking home a birdhouse. Go! You won't regret it.

Absolutely inspiring. The place goes on forever with incredible art and infinite ways to interact. The staff were lovely and encouraged you to take your time and make yourself at home amongst the sculptures.

Well, this a unique place. It is a collection of old junk and seemingly worthless items elevated to the status of art. It is not for everyone. Among all this there is a gift store selling jams, converves and jellies. A few things available for tasting. Price is around 10 dollars.

Wonderful gift shop with a variety of jams, chutney, syrups and many other delights! Creative metal scrap sculptures scattered throughout the woods, many scenes that tell stories. Fun to stroll through. Dog friendly. Small parking area. Friendly people. Portable outhouse well used, not well maintained.

This is always a favorite destination when I visit Deer Isle. The collected antique/junk art scenes here are unimaginably inventive and brilliant. You could easily spend a day here taking it all in, if you wanted to. The shop is filled with delightful Maine artisan creations. You really can't capture the magic adequately with photos or video. It has to be in person.

Two years and one pandemic later, we return to one of our favorite places on Deer Isle. Nellies Jellies and the world renowned Nellieville Forrest of "Junk" art and sculptures. An eye opener, for those with an open mind. Truest on of a kind. The jellies and accompanying shop of locally made crafts and goods are top notch, tastebud tantalizers. A bit pricey and worth every penny.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED NERVOUS NELLIES! Aesthetically, creatively it is an inspiring place to be. I walked around the entire area in maybe two hours without getting the chance to fully look at all the details. I appreciate the time that went into creating this beautiful space. No place compares to this. I love that there is so much going on here, you can come back and always see something new. I am literally going back in a couple of days because I felt so inspired by my surroundings. As a creator it truly felt like a beautiful place to be. Everyone here is friendly, supportive and truly a friend. I 110% recommend coming here if you are in the area!

Five for creativity. Like the sign says the sculptures are for sale, the junk is not. Don't miss a single one of the cute little cabins and outbuildings all decorated in a variety of different styles and things with antiques and these incredible sculptures. Oh and they sell jelly and cute accessories too!

A unique magical place to visit. They produce and sell jams and jellies on location which are great but the bonus is the incredible artist work of the owner. He created sculptures literally out of junk. The property is several acres and you are allowed to wander around and look and touch the artwork. He set up several areas based on themes such as wild west, medieval times and even built a church. Some of the sculptures are for sale. There is no fee to enter. Within the property is a Nervous Nellie's store where you could by the jellies, jams and chutneys. They also have coffee, tea, sodas and pastries if you decide to eat there.

Fun place to visit. Very eccentric art. It's a whole village of interesting things to see! Great jams and jellies!

We decided to visit Nervous Nellies Jams and Jellies and Peter Beerits folk art sculpture garden one day on our recent stay on Deer Isle. My wife headed directly to see Nellie, actually Anne, who seemed pretty calm, while I was attracted by several birds trying to compete with a red squirrel at a feeder. I also toured a section of Peter's Nellieville known as Tin Town that includes an old western saloon, Chinese laundry, jail and bank. I then joined my wife Ann and Anne to sample a few of the homemade jams and jellies. Though all of Peter's sculptures remain available for sale, Anne has one less jar of blueberry preserves. Prior to our departure, we made a short trek through the woods into another section known as Grail Castle where we found Parsifal, Gawain, Lancelot and Galahad seated at a table that was rectangular rather than round. We heard of this as one of the best places for local jellies but we had no idea how fun and creative the property would be. Take time to enjoy the junk treasures turned into art. Walk the property than buy your jams and local gifts.

I am updating my review for the sheer fact that I previously made the comment about the price of their jam. I said : "their jams are kinda pricy at $6.50 each but the product is so well made. Plus you are supporting a small business, as opposed to smuckers or harry and david." I would like to elaborate on the fact that I recently made jam and holy hell is A LOT OF WORK. That won't stop me from making jam in the future but it taught me how valuable Nervous Nellie's jam is. Which is exactly why I bought another case of their goodies last weekend. This place makes amazing homemade jams and jellies (as the name of the business would lead you to believe). It also makes chutneys and hot and spicy preserves. We would always buy the Maine blueberry preserves (made from real blueberries, the kind you find in the woods in Maine that are tiny and flavorful) and also the strawberry-rhubarb was also a favorite. We have stopped her a couple times on long drives to Deer Isle. The shop has weird welded metal sculptures in front of it and an asthetic similar to the art on the jar labels and on the website. It is friendly and best of all you can try all of the preserves. The price has definitely gotten a bit higher, but boy is it good. Recently i was at a friends house and her boyfriend brought out a jar of the blueberry jam! I freaked out. "Where did you get this?" i asked. Apparently he grew up in Orland, Me, and his mother sent him some. What a treat! Anyway that sweet encounter is what sparked this whole Maine review kick...

Quaint roadside store that carries a variety of jams, conserve and chutneys. You can taste before you buy. Extremely sweet preserves but they will last.

Nervous Nellie's is a truly wondrous place! I grew up on Deer Isle, more specifically on Sunshine, and drove by this spot every single day. My conception of what was happening at Nervous Nellie's came from the jellies and jams sold in local stores and from the view of the backs of the buildings in the middle of Hardscrabble Hill. Visiting Deer Isle with friends, we finally stopped yesterday for the very first time. I have to say, what Peter Beerits has (and is) created (creating) at Nervous Nellie's Jams and Jellies is nothing short of a wonder! Of course there's the food. The jellies, jams, preserves, and chutneys are simply delicious. There is a small cafe and store where you can sample, buy, and sit and enjoy the tasty treats created on site. But the jellies aren't what visiting Nervous Nellies is all about. It's the brilliance, creativity, and passion in the art of Peter Beerits that will really fill your heart and mind and go with you after you leave. There is a tiny world with buildings and sculptures that beckon you in and beg you to participate in the imaginative elements born of a tremendous artist at work. I LOVED seeing and experiencing it all, but particularly loved the old west inspired buildings. There are several key places to visit. Each building you visit is filled with interesting wood-cut inhabitants, antiques furniture, music, and so much more.

Great jams and jellies. The sculptures are perhaps even better than the goodies. If you don't want to risk breakage you can place an order online. I love pretty much all of the flavors. Kids love the unique sculptures.

I've never had the opportunity to visit Nervous Nellie's but I always manage when I go to Maine to pick up a few jars for me and the rest of my family. Their tomato chutney is to die for - everything else is amazingly flavorful. I make my own jams and preserves and their products taste homemade and are exceptional. I'm trying to find a reason to con my husband into making a side trip on my way home the next time I go to Acadia.

The Strawberry Rhubarb is my favorite. Especially spread on some Pain de Famille (RIP) bread...

Not to be missed if you are on Deer Isle. An amazing folk art sculpture garden/installation and homemade jam oasis. Fantastic for kids and adults alike.

Love their jams and jellies (though, strangely, they are cheaper at the Tradewinds supermarket in Blue Hill) and their sculpture park is a unique blend of edgy, and creepy.

If you make it to Deer Isle stop. Yummy sweet and savory assortments ;)

I started ordering cases of jam after I received a gift basket that contained a jar of blueberry jam. I am hooked as this is the best jams made. I was in Maine 2 weeks ago with my family and we stopped in just as they were closing. Ann helped us find a inn nearby which was another great stop on our vacation. Great folks as well as great jams and preserves. Definitely make your way down to Deer Isle if you can.
