Cool museum with a lot of interesting things! The museum is in a large room as a curving path guides you around in chronological order of the Nevada and Reno area history. Something to see if you have an hour in the Reno Area!

There can learn the history and development of Nevada and Reno, and the children learn the knowledge. The librarian's warm and thoughtful service gave me stickers and commemorative pencils for my kids, thank you!

Sign on door and online says they are open to public Wednesday thru Saturday 11 to 4. But guess what? THEY ARE NOT OPEN ON THESE DAYS OR HOURS except on Wednesdays nowadays, apparently. Sorry about that, they might have posted on the door to whomever may have ventured to learn a little Nevada history on a recent Saturday. What's the point of having a museum that says it's open to the public but isn't? Must be some tasty tidbits inside, I find myself thinking, as I compose this text outside the locked doors. Guess I'll head back to Circus Circus and squander a few more dollars on slot machines.

This is a good research library and museum of Nevada history. Permanent exhibit spans Native American items thru mining and gambling exhibits. Rotating exhibits are interesting and they have many good talks.

We took my dad here after we went to another museum that's pretty close. We had a great time walking through the exhibits and learning more about Nevada history.

I'm an artist. I participate every year in early December one of the most entertaining and educational Art Shows called "History for the Holidays". This year the date is Saturday December 13, 2014. I so look forward to this exciting event all year long! I market Nevada stone pendants which I cut, shape, polish and wrap! Each one is unique. These are wrapped in Gold Fill, Copper, and Sterling wire that really shows off these gorgeous stones. I exhibit in many shows including the Reno Gem and Mineral Society shows. In addition, I teach Watercolor in Reno and have taught WC in Ireland. At this December show there is acapela singers that sing Christmas Carols. There is a delicious array of sweets and hot chocolate etc. It is always crowded and lasts from 11 to 4 PM. People look for my pendants each year. All the artists are professionals. See you there. Yelp
Full disclaimer, I am a history junkie. I can stand around for hours looking at old pictures of familiar places and try to figure out what it looks like now and is it still there? I love reading about what people did and how they lived long ago. I see history as a story and the stories are so interesting. I was here as a part of an Artown event and were treated to a lecture on Reno history by one of the docents. We were then split into smaller groups to get more information on items in their Reno History Gallery. We were also free to wander around the rest of the galleries with information and artifacts pertaining to all aspects of Nevada history. There are a few 'hands on" items available for children. My only quibble, and my reason for only four stars, is that some of the displays are not well laid out and the artifacts are not very well identified. It is definitely worth a visit and there is free parking next to the building.

Yelp
Fun little museum with good gift shop! I hit it every year for the Latimer Miniature Show and the holidays for gifts.

Yelp
This museum is a great place to spend a day. You can learn so much about Nevada's past and the rich mines that made Nevada, like Virginia City and Goldfield.

Yelp
If you are at all interested in history this is the place to visit. Located on the UNR campus it is easy to find and easier to park. The museum is huge and I recommend allowing at least one hour to see most of it. It is a fairly large Museum and part of it is dedicated specifically to the biggest little city in the world, Reno. Check to be sure about ours and entry fees.

Yelp
Been here a few times, but most recently for the UNR-Day At The Museum. I had my 6 year old kid with me and it's hard to keep a young kids interest especially when you're in a museum. The docents were very helpful, informative, interactive and nice. My kid and I spent about an hour playing with the old Pioneer toys and it was a blast teaching him those old games-Cat's cradle, marbles, Jacob's Ladder, ring toss, and old dice games. One of the gentlemen docents there just kept astounding me with his knowledge of mining in the area and other tidbits. The museum is small but a gem and there are are lots of great local history and so many stories to be heard!

Yelp
Spent a great time at this small but great museum. Lots to see and learned a lot about Reno and the rest of Nevada. The research library wasn't open at the time so we didn't get to see that, but spent a good while in the shop looking at books about this fine state.

Yelp
I visited this musuem earlier today. I had taken my family from out of state there. It is a $5.00 cover charge per person. That is a decent price for being such a small musuem. In my opinion it is worth seeing. The musuem has a lot of historic slot machines. And they have Indian artifacts I liked. Lots and lots of history.

Yelp
Extensive research library for all topics in Nevada history plus a small gallery with excellent artifacts for viewing at a reasonable price.
