Fantastic staff! We loved the scenic train ride. Very reasonable prices and discounts for the military. We loved our visit here. They have picnic areas, bathrooms and souvenir shop. You can walk through some of the trains as well. Highly recommend

Stopped through on our way to the Hoover Dam. They have some cool rail cars stationed there on the tracks, but unfortunately, although we got there before 3:30 PM on the day they indicated they were open till then (called) but we couldn’t get into any of them. They were all closed except the postal office car. It was still fun to walk around and see the outside of the cars that were there, but there’s not a huge amount of them but the ones that are there are nicely done. $2 donation per person.

Great place for locals and visitors alike, to spend an afternoon at, especially if you are a lover of everything trains. Are you a Sheldon Cooper, then this place is for you. There is a large parking lot adjacent to the museum as well as several restrooms, a green area with picnic tables (covered and uncovered), a gift shop, a ticket office to purchase train tickets, and a model railroad car. There is a modest fee charged for entry into the museum and if you wish to take one of the 3-4 daily train rides. The out-and-back train ride takes approximately 45 minutes and travels to the I11 overpass in Henderson, where it stops for several minutes before returning to the museum. For all you veterans out there, the train ride is free so make sure to take advantage of this wonderful offer. The ride is nothing spectacular and you have the option of sitting inside a railroad car or sitting in the covered open-air railroad car. Regardless of your choice, the ride is well worth the time and low price and is great fun for families and those who love to ride trains.

Google
We took the train ride first and really enjoyed it. It was relaxing and restful. It wasn't crowded the day we went, which made it a nice ride. Then we looked over the museum. It is small in comparison to other railroad museums but it would be great for kids to see the cars and only take a small part of your day. When I had little ones I appreciated places the kids could see in a couple of hours before their tiredness set in. For just the museum the price is very inexpensive. Only drawback I wish more cars had been accessible to walk through. The ones that were were very interesting.

Actually, real train rides with a real train! Train enthusiasts and history buffs alike will find pure literary gold here. A railyard of Nevada's history and beyond. Look at and walk in real trains while being amazed by the miniature train setup in a life-size train. You can buy tickets to the train ride in advance, but I highly recommend purchasing those tickets at the ticket booth on site; so much fun. Visit the Nevada state railroad museum before the new station is built. They also include scouting merit badges.

Google
A fun experience! It was a short, fun, and quick exploration. My kids enjoyed the train ride and walking through the train cabs. All the workers were friendly and welcoming.

Google
Family friendly and enjoyable for all ages. All the staff were so amazing! Shares their knowledge on the history, answers the many questions we had, and they were all just so welcoming and genuine. Price is so affordable. Especially getting the group rate. You can get tickets online or go in-person. Always check online on the train schedules. Easy to get to with plenty of parking. Train museum has a few carts that you can go inside and look around. Last one is a miniature mobile train model. Very elaborate and detailed. Pay attention on the characters they use. Train ride is truly a relaxing experience. There are three carts: one with tables, open, and looks comfy seating facing each other. We were able to walk through each one while train is in motion. It was a beautiful day and not too windy that all of us enjoyed all the view it had to offer. If anyone visits Vegas with their young ones, I definitely recommend this place.

Google
Iconic place to take family and friends for a historic visit. The Christmas train tickets must be purchased online if you want to ride. There’s a lot of amusement around and just the place has this nostalgic feeling of old time.

Yelp
We loved this place. It isn't big, but it was fun. It has a cool model railroad shack and displays about the history of railroads in this area. There is also a fun little out and back ride on railroads cars with some great views on the nearby desert.

Yelp
This American Rail Bikes (pedal assistance) worth every cent, it was a beautiful night to ride the rail bikes! Everyone had a marvelous time! Check it out, next time I'm doing the day time ride, I loved it! Total blast. Details in picture below

Yelp
Located in peaceful Boulder Nv. Had a great time looking around this old town where construction took place of Hoover Dam. Looking at old trains and taking a train ride was fantastic. Plenty of places to eat in downtown Boulder and very close to Hoover Dam. There is also a fantastic bike trail their where you can bike until the wheels fall off.

Yelp
Great experience and value! The volunteers on the train were so friendly. Such a great family outing. Will definitely return and looking forward to story time train, the Easter train, and Santa Express.

Yelp
This is one of the Jewels in the Vegas valley. If you are looking for a unique experience and want to learn about some history around the building of the Hoover dam and the extensive railway history in Nevada, may I suggest paying the Nevada Southern Railway museum visit. They have daily train rides in refurbished cars from back in the day and even have special holiday rides during Christmas, Halloween and Easter. They have different static displays to check out to include a miniature railroad. I can tell you I have been there a few times and yet to see it all. The museum is operated by a great group of volunteers who are friendly and enjoy answering any questions. My suggestion is to visit their website at www.nevadasouthern.com for all of their offerings Ultimately, if your looking for a way to get away from the city for a while, may I suggest a stop here to check out some really cool history

Yelp
All aboard! Chugga chugga choo choo!! My family and I went on the Santa Express at Nevada Southern Railway headed to Santa's train station which was a lot of fun. Upon arrival, we waited for our train car to be called so that we could be seated and head on our journey. The rail explorers experience was running behind (The go-cart looking things people pedal on the rails) so we ended up boarding about 20 minutes late. We opted to purchase the coach car experience which was fun, all 4 of us sat facing each other on comfy seats throughout the ride. There was even a Christmas story playing as we headed to Santa's Rail Station. Once we arrived, there was a huge fun play area where children could throw pretend snow balls and run around. Additionally, there was hot chocolate, sugar cookies, and photos with Santa in his sleigh. After photos are taken, Mrs. Claus was there to hand out candy canes. They also had an area where gift bags were being given away, when children approach the elves for them they asked, "Are you VIP?" You also didn't get to sit in a certain tented area unless you purchased VIP tickets for it. It just made me a bit sad to see children's faces when they were turned down for some things. Nevertheless, it still did not hinder the overall experience. Would we do it again next year? I think so. It was fun, and we enjoyed the train ride, pretend snowballs, hot chocolate, and cookies. In Las Vegas looking for a fun train ride the whole family can enjoy? Head over to Boulder City and see what events that Nevada Southern Rallway has going on that week!

Yelp
I was very disappointed with the whole experience. I paid for a dinning cart thinking we could order dinner and eat on the train ride. No not the case the trains are about or over 100 years old so ok now that makes since. However the description didn't match reality of the experience. The worker/volunteer in our cart was absolutely unprofessional the cart we were in on December 21 at 8pm was 4813. She first started out yelling to all of us that we NEEDED TO LISTEN to reduce her anxiety. She than proceeded to talk about her age and said she would ask everyone, because she wants to know. Finally she reveals her age and she is 15 years old well explains the immaturity. She left her envelope on our table after 10 minutes comes back snatches off the table and said, "I need my envelope!" We get off the train to get hot chocolate and a cookie the VIP that I purchased gave you a gift bag that consist of a Chocolate bar and a mug. The children's bag had a train whistle and a train ornament. There was small cotton ball like balls that people used to throw at each other. We got back on the train and to top it off, our cart lady proceeds to again yell at us that she was tired and that we all needed to hurry up off her cart so she could go home sleep because she had done this for a straight of 4 weeks and she was tired. Horrible attitude and don't recommend her working around families that are doing nice things for their children around the holidays.

Yelp
This was a cute spot. My son really liked looking at all the big trains!! But it was a little rundown and small. I thought the museum would have more exhibits. There was only the mail car and the caboose where you could walk in, at least when we went to visit. But because it was free and the parking was ample and free, I gave it four stars. If I had to pay for admission to the train museum, then I probably wouldn't given it fewer stars. We didn't pay to ride the train, but it is $10 per an adult and kids 3 and under ride free. The ride is about 40 min and you can ride in the closed carts or in the open air. We saw one of the trains coming back, which was cool. But it was so loud my kid got scared and didn't want to ride it--haha. Staff were very friendly so no issues there. It's a good little free, quick activity to do with your kids, especially if they like Thomas the Train!!! Last bit is that there are no toilets there, just portapottys, so make sure you go to the bathroom before the trip!

Yelp
Location: Boulder City Parking: plentiful right to the station Quite a historic view of how trains back to their good old years. Everyone can ride the full size train and everyone can ride the kids train. A nice half day trip to BC is worth it

Yelp
We visited NV Southern Railway for their October event, Train of Terror. It was very family friendly and a cool experience. Definitely recommend for families. We paid the VIP tickets online, which was pretty cheap in our opinion. This VIP ticket allowed us priority boarding and "hazmat suits" to wear. The train ride is fun and there's a narrative that goes along with the ride. Scare actors alongside the train on the roads sync with the narrative playing on the train, and it's overall fun and a little spooky. I wouldn't recommend this for avid horror fans, as it's a little mellow, but it's still a great time and you get to ride on the Union25641!

Yelp
I just wanted to leave a review of my experience riding the Santa Train last night, 12/09/22. All of the workers (volunteers?) were INCREDIBLY kind, friendly, joyful and brought so much magic to the experience. But the standout STAR was Laura. She went above and beyond to make sure my son and I had a tremendous experience last night. There were a series of events that occurred and I was so worried that we wouldn't be able to make the Train, but Laura and the team assured me that we would ride the train that night. She kindly even gave us directions to an amazing house down the road with a beautiful Christmas light display. The ride to Santa was so fun, even the adults around me were laughing and singing. Some of the workers walked up and down making sure to engage with all the passengers. We also got a cute little story as well as cheerful music. Santa at the rail yard was AWESOME. My son is 3 and really thought that we were at the North Pole. We took pictures with Santa, ate cookies and drank hot cocoa. And given some super nice gift bags. And then everyone got into a huge "snowball" fight and right in the middle of it, IT STARTED SNOWING! My kid was in wonderland!!! On the way back, we even got see the inside of the caboose! It really, truly warmed my heart and filled my son and I with the Holiday spirit. I am most definitely going to make this our family tradition. Thank you so much to the Nevada Southern Railway for organizing this event!!!

Yelp
Planning on going to Vegas and this is going to be one of our major stops ! Just the pictures alone can tell you what to expect to see when you get there ! This place obviously knows what it's doing because of the fact that he has specials on October for Halloween and December for Christmas and Santa ! And having Thomas the Tank Engine there, is the icing on the cake !

Yelp
From the second you step out of your car until the moment you leave, every single staff person is SO FRIENDLY and helpful. Absolutely wonderful customer service, a warm and welcoming environment. We did the Santa Express at night time. A cute idea. You board the train and ride for about 10 minutes and then 10 minutes back. Then you get off in Santa's rail yard and there's are "snowballs", a few games, cookies and hot cocoa, a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus and a gift shop. Chilly Jillyz is also there if you want to purchase snacks. The snowball fights were probably the highlight. Everyone was having fun. Even adults. It even "snows" towards the end. It is COLD. Definitely splurge for the indoor railcar if you can. They do have heaters at Santa's railyard which is nice. If you pay for VIP there's a heated tent you can hang out in, but then you miss the activities. You also get a little gift bag if you're VIP and I think table service for your hot cocoa and cookies. Other than that I'm not sure of the difference. I'll be honest , the train ride got a little boring for little ones. They have Christmas music playing and they did read one story. However it's dark so not much to look at out the windows so the kids were getting antsy. Maybe if they could add more decor and some other form of entertainment during the train ride, that would be a nice improvement. I understand why they don't, but even serving hot cocoa and cookies during the ride would be nice inside the table cars. Definitely check it out if it's in your budget!

Yelp
Fun train museum. There's several trains to see inside and then there are the rail cars to pedal down the tracks. The museum and rail cars are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We unfortunately drove out on a Tuesday. We were able to walk through the trains but that was it.
google avatar

Arthur O.

Yelp
Hidden little gem just outside of Las Vegas. The staff were super friendly. There are a couple of railroad cars you can walk through. One of the cars has a model train set in it, which was cool to see. The train ride was only $10 bucks for adults and take you on 45 trip across the desert. This train is totally old school as you here the clicking clack of train over the rails.

Yelp
We just did the Easter Bunny experience & I def recommend !! The trains were interesting to look at & read about. The train ride was a nice experience for my family & I. I have a six year old & six month old. They both enjoyed it as much as us adults did. The workers are AMAZING ! They really make the experience ! They are so nice & welcoming & very helpful. For the Easter experience we got to take pictures with the Easter bunny, play games, do a little scavenger hunt & my daughter got some Easter eggs for doing the scavenger hunt. The food options were chicken or pulled pork sandwich or hot dog & it's served with a bag of chips & water. The only cons were that it was windy & cold, but they do have heaters & they even let us in the VIP room to keep the kids warm !! Also, there's only about 30 min to do the games, bunny pictures, eat, etc. wish there was more time to hangout, but that's just because we enjoyed the experience so much! My six year old said she wants to come back & do it again so we will def be back for more experiences throughout the year !!

Yelp
The museum itself is on the small side but it is free and all of the people are great. We took the train ride and our kids loved it. It was definitely a fun way to spend a few hours on a Saturday.
google avatar

Yelp
Looking for a few hours of entertainment for the kids? This is definitely the place to come. You get to enjoy being outside while learning about the history of the Nevada State Railway. We decided to take our kids here one weekend since they both love trains. After purchasing our tickets for the train ride (see my picture for tIcket pricing), we walked around the exhibit and toured the train cars on display. There were about 4-5? train cars that you could actually go into and see what they looked like back in the day. It's a tight squeeze for those who are claustrophobic. Now for the train ride itself. It stated online that the ride was about 40 minutes, but we were on there a little over an hour. There's an option to sit in an open air car or in the climate controlled car. Since there were arts & crafts and story time for the kids, we opted for the indoor seating first. We got to make beaded bracelets for the kids, which I thought was pretty cute. We then chose to sit in the open air car to enjoy the nice weather and the view. My son enjoyed every minute of it. All the employees were very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. They were all so kind to all the children that were there. They offer memberships which entitles you to free entry to the other 6 Nevada state museums. I definitely enjoyed my time here.

Roby N.

Yelp
TRAIN OF TERROR The biggest scam I've ever experienced. Paid 110 dollars for "VIP". If the tickets were 10 dollars ok, but to charge that amount for that truly terrible experience should be illegal.

Yelp
Man this place is a gem. Took the littles here to check it out. We got here just in time to take a train ride (10AM). And it was freezing! But we sat out in the open area, it was beautiful! The sights are amazing and the train is slow but it goes. The ride goes up about a mile and a half and then goes backwards back to where you started. The kids had a blast! And we were able to move within the train as it was moving so that was a plus. Kids 4 and under are free to ride, and adults have to pay. The actual train museum part is free and you can wander around and look at a bunch of different types of train and train cars. It was an awesome morning for the kids, they loved it.

Yelp
I had been meaning to visit the Nevada Southern Railway museum for years. I don't know why it took the Rail Explorers experience to get me here but I made it. I like trains. I always have. So this was a cool place to visit. The public portion is not a huge museum but the gounds have a lot more than what you are able to see close up. Mostly there are engines for you to see up close. And a few cars. A couple of the cars you can actually go in to. The sign for one says it has train models inside but that one was closed today. The real highlight is the train ride down the line. It goes about 4.5 miles down to Rail Road Pass. I actually only rode the train back from there as I rode down with Rail Explorers. But it was still fun. I stayed in the open air car for the fresh breeze. It was a little chilly. There was an option of an enclosed car but I wanted that breeze. The train staff, volunteers I believe, are personible and enjoy talking and interacting with you. You may only be with them for a few minutes but they make it enjoyable. The trains look like they could use some refurbishing here. A fresh coat of paint. That desert sun can be brutal. There was some panelling in the car I sat in that had weathered and cracked. It all seems cosmetic. The important thing is that the engines continue operating safely. Were it not for museums like this these old trains would either go to scrap or turn the rust. I am happy to see them preserved. Even if they could use a little work.

Yelp
I always have the urge to tour local train museums when it comes to taking the family. So along the route we made a pit stop here after visiting scenic Hoover Dam. We came on a quiet weekend and upon arrival we had just missed its last train ride for the day. Admission for the train ride is $10 for adults and $5 for children 4-11 years old. To tour the exhibits there's no cost. During the experience we walked around the train depot and took lots of pictures, you'll also hear the sound of train engines while it's stopped on its tracks. Inside the exhibit its gives information about the history of the Nevada State Railroad system. One of the cabs has a mini train display. I did find the mail carrier train interesting because it shows how US Mail is laid out, stored and organized going cross country back in the days. If you're looking for some leisure time in Boulder City, this place is one of them.

Yelp
Ohh man this is kool, we rode the pedal cars for a few miles to the casino, then took the train back. I've never been on a train, it was old school to, Boulder City is awesome especially on the way to to the Boulder City damn. This place has a great history on Las Vegas as well, yes tourist come up here to, 20 minutes or so from Vegas, the history of trains, Las Vegas, its all here, not to mention you can ride the train and see some great stuff. This gets a 10, seeing how we are always in Boulder City, we go here quite a bit, the people are polite, the staff is great, you have to visit here. Willie PSYCHO APPROVED

Yelp
We stumbled upon this spot because we were looking into train activities for the kids. We were hoping for holiday activities but they didn't decorate for that just yet. It's all good. We had a nice trip out to Historic Boulder City and this spot was cool. The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 4-11 and free for kids 3 years and under. The cool factor of this whole experience is having the conductor punch your train ticket and entering the train. The seats are pretty spacious and allows seats to face each other fitting up to 3 guests per bench. The windows open too so you get a better view during your train ride. The ride itself is a straight shot on the Nevada Southern Railway, about a 30 minute ride. 15 minutes to the end of the railway and then 15 minute ride back. The kids loved it and that is what matters. The staff were incredibly friendly and informative with the history of the Nevada Southern Railway. When the ride was over they let us know we could go across the train track to the free live steamers small train ride. They only ask for donations in return for the free ride. "Donations are the prime funding source helping to maintain and grow the railroad". This was very cute and almost more fun than the actual train ride itself. Must do this if you visit. After our live steamers train ride, we went back to the train museum to check out the different trains on display. This was cool to check out.

Yelp
What: Santa train. Ride lasts about 30 minutes and goes straight down the track one-way, then stops and reverses going in the other direction back to the station. Santa's elf asks your child what they would like for Xmas, then Santa makes a quick stop by each family and the elf will take a picture with your phone (no charge). This was sweet and fun, but just know that Santa does not sit down or have your child sit on his lap to tell him what she wants for xmas. You can save that for the mall Santa! Just a quick hello and picture so he can visit every child on the train. Age: My child is on the upper-bound, being 9 years old, so she's getting a little old. She thought is was fun, but not sure if we will go next year. If she was younger, we might make it a yearly tradition. Cost: very affordable at $6/per person. Tip: Buy tickets online so they don't sell out; but you still have to CONVERT them at the ticket counter. Tip2: Visit the little museum to see toy trains in action - but don't touch!

Yelp
We heard good things about this museum and train ride so we decided to give it a try. We were running a bit behind and just got tickets in time to jump on the train. We found a car up front with AC and no one else in it. The restroom was in this car so a few people came up but didn't stay. We were thinking that there would be a historical narration or something while riding the train, but there wasn't. We didn't get good information on where we were going when we bought the tickets, so we just assumed we'd be heading toward the Hoover Dam based on the published information. That was not the case. The train just runs parallel to the Highway 93 route up to the Railroad Crossing Casino, then backs up to the beginning. That's it. Pretty much nothing interesting to see or hear about that we didn't already see from our many drives along Highway 93. Perhaps if there was some kind of "event" going on, this ride would include more excitement. There were a couple of museum items to look at when we got off the train, but nothing worth the price we paid. I would say don't waste your money ($10 per adult) for this train ride.

Yelp
For me this one is really personal. My uncle was a conductor for Union Pacific almost up until he died. This was a great experience. Upon entering we were greeted with great customer service. Given a slight run down of the pavilion and the hours. Everything was well kept and lots of informational boards thru out. You can walk on some of the trains, which have stopped in time, so you can have the feel of what the workers experienced. At this railroad museum you can even ride a real train on the tracks. Which is neat if you've never rode on one before. There is pricing for rides at the depot according to age. Def recommend Location is Yucca Rd in Boulder City

Yelp
What a fabulous experience! We just got back from our first trip to Nevada Southern Railway and it was so good I had to immediately write a review. My three year old had the time of her life and my husband and I both enjoyed the trip and learned a ton! The volunteers and employees are knowledgeable and so approachable. We asked tons of questions about the mechanics of steam engine trains and we love the model train car! They even have ride on steam train models and I cannot wait to come back and experience that. We originally paid $20 (two adults, 1 kid: three and under are free) but we had such a good time that we upgraded to the family year membership for $60!! We will be back and we will bring out of town guests with us! I so appreciate the volunteers, who obviously enjoy trains immensely, for their knowledge and willingness to be a part of such an incredible experience for families and children. Thank you!

Yelp
Visited today and had an awesome experience on the Santa Train. Santa Train tickets are 6.00 per seat. Purchase your tickets online in advance. I walked up to pick up my tickets and noticed the train rides were sold out. The train ride itself was super cool. Board a real train with indoor and outdoor seating options. The train ride is about 30 minutes, making your way up the track and then reversing and back down. Santa and his elves come around and say hello to the kids. The conductor also engages with this kids. This is a really neat experience for the kids. Glad we visited.

My children love trains, and we heard about this place through some friends of ours. My kids loved the train ride--as others have stated, a little over a 30 minute overall train ride, out and back. Tickets are reasonable, and the other exhibits offered by the museum we're cool for us and the kids to see. The staff are all volunteers who absolutely love their jobs. They are friendly, and they love to talk about the railway and trains. We didn't get to do it this time, but if you get the chance, do the rail bikes! They looked very run. Basically, you would peddle out to the end point of where the train stops and reverses back to the station... Then you get off, wait for the train to come, and then ride it back to the station. The live steamers (the small train) were offline so we couldn't ride them.. we'd like to try them on the future. My only complaint of today was the lack of heat on the cars given the cold Las Vegas weather we had today. There was a technical issue or personnel issue that caused the train cars to not be heated up before we got on the 10:00 train. Thus, it was cold between 40-50 degrees during the train ride. It wasn't horrible, but was a minor unpleasantness to our otherwise great trip.

Yelp
Loved this museum even though the tours were closed when we went. The pavilion has enough trains and gear to look at and read about to stay busy a couple hours. Good stop on the way to Hoover Dam.

Yelp
First of all you have to meet and chat it up with the ticket sales lady - she is adorable!! Please forgive me for not remembering the name. The train ride was nice and relaxing - enough not to bore. History is remarkable and any time there is a moment (especially a cheap one with amazing people to host) take the memories!

Yelp
This place is great! Bring the whole family! Kids 3 and under ride free!!! If you have a Nevada state museum (depending on location) it covers museum entrance and train ride. Very cool place, small but great to visit and don't forget to check out the caboose I wish I could post a video for you all to see. Go online to get a coupon for your visit if this is your first time. My kids love this place an always ask me to bring them and I don't mind since it's only a 30 min drive from Las Vegas and not too far from the Hoover Dam if you wanna check that out too. Not a lot of people can say they have ridden a train so it's a good thing to kick off the ol bucket list. Water bottles are allowed on the train but no food or snacks there are restrooms on the train itself so if you gotta go then you can and not have to wait till the train stops. Great little gem to visit if you get a chance. Rides are only on the weekends but museum is open during normal business hours The conductors ‍are dressed to impress and they were happy to take photos with my family an I

Yelp
While this is a cool outdoor museum/ attraction we frequented as my son was growing up, today was different. Felt a lot of scowling and just generally negative staff working. I was over charged for my son as he is tall. Just overall a lack luster experience. Maybe it's due to the heat or the pandemic. But probably won't be back after today, just didn't feel very welcome.

Yelp
Although, there isnt much of a collection of trains unlike I have scene in other museums, this is one place you certainly dont want to miss seeing especially if you like history such as myself and how locomotives shaped America and pretty much the rest of the world as we know.

Yelp
What a little unknown gem in Boulder City! With a young child, we are continuously looking for outdoor fun and free entertainment. This place was awesome. They have an elaborate model train set up inside one of the cars, you can check out several old actual trains, take a ride on a working train, or check out the mini-train. Whatever you do, it's awesome. The kids love it, and you can make a day of it in Boulder City.

Yelp
My nephew love trains. And saying that he loves trains is quite an understatement. Seeing the smile on his face thewhole time playing with the model trains, riding the trains, anything/everything trains was PRICELESS! My family had planned this event and, honestly, I was like "Santa Train? In Vegas?" I didn't ask too many questions, obviously, but, since I was off that day, I went. It took about 30 mins to drive to Boulder City which for me is a road trip in itself. We had an hour before the "train ride" so, we got to check out the museum they had. It was crazy to think that this was someone's hobby because they had full blown towns with 3, sometimes, 5 trains going at the same time. One of the towns even had a mini replica of a McDonald's! I had a chance to even buy a few stocking stuffers for the kiddies. And by stocking stuffers, I mean, toy trains...duh. As we waited in line for the train, a line quickly formed behind us. Lemme tell you that I'm glad we were 1st in line because there were soooooooooooo much people. Didn't realized how into trains people were! lol It was great to get first dibs on seats on the train considering I didn't want to sit in the outdoor section of the train...it was freeeezing ballz out! It was a short ride but, any time seeing the kiddos all happy and excited is always worth it. They even had Santa and Mrs. Clause take pics with the kids! It was great. All the workers are volunteers and tickets only cost $5. If it wasn't so far, I'd love to come here with friends. Its an experience, to say the least. It's something you would never expect right outside of Sin City.

Yelp
Nevada Southern Railway is an engaging, historical activity available year round. The 40 minute round trip experience includes a ride inside an a passenger car, observation car or a special ride (e.g. with the engineer - see website for options and cost). Bring a coat or blanket of you plan to ride fall or winter and sit in the open air car. Events are scheduled seasonally. Weekly story time, Halloween Train and Santa Train are popular. My children have grown up riding this local train and each time is full of joy and learning. In the spring and summer, I pack a lunch and head for a Boulder City park after our ride. At Hemenway Park, 401 Ville Dr, Boulder City, NV 89005, meet and greet the Desert Big Horn Sheep. Yes! Live sheep, Nevada's State Land Mammal, migrate down from the mountains to graze and enjoy the climate. The Veteran's Memorial Park offers plenty of running space, huge splash pad, greenery, and huge splash pad. The parks are close, clean and provide an extension to a kid-friendly train experience.

Yelp
I can't believe we didn't know about this place earlier! Our 2 year old is obsessed with trains :) so we decided to take a day off and take him there. What a great idea!!! I think I was looking forward to going there more than him. Lol The train ride is awesome! It's long enough to enjoy it and short enough not to get bored. (I believe 40 mins round trip) You can enjoy sitting in air conditioned cars or in open ones where you can stick your head out and catch the wind ;) The only drawback is that they are not open during the week. Because of our work schedules we cannot go too often. But we are looking forward to their Christmas Santa train. Great day trip from Vegas!

Yelp
I brought my toddler here for a train ride on a Saturday morning. We did 10 am train ride. She had a blast. I would definitely recommend it. Try to arrive 15 minutes prior to departure. The train moves about 20 mph if that. We saw a group of sheeps near the cliffs. We also got a chance to ride on the steamers.

Yelp
We couldn't have showed up on a better day. Although it was VERY hot (typical) there is a handful of cement benches in the boarding areas that are covered with shade. There are several trains that are on display and even though it says "Keep Off" I see/saw Rule Offenders hop on anyway to get that perfect pic. Anyway, there is also a tiny gift shop that sells water and snacks from what I can see as I didn't go inside. Mother Nature was showing off in such a spectacular way. Storm clouds were heavy throughout the valley that was pretty evident as we rode the approx 40 min round trip train ride. There are three different cars to ride in: one with cushy seats and ceiling fans--fully covered; one completely open-air and wood/park bench seating; and lastly table benches lined up in the middle with panel-less windows. We almost sat in the enclosed car as it was pretty hot and we have been sweating already so Hubster went to check it out but reported that it smelled musky so we chose to sit in the open air one to cool off and also to watch the lightning show and rain literally pour down on Vegas. It truly was an impressive natural sight to view. It's safe and the staff make efforts to make sure you're comfy cozy. Little Man had a jolly good time and is excited to come back again for the Halloween ride. Also they have a smaller/mini train that you can ride/straddle for donations. That doesn't start until the 3rd weekend of September. We attempted to walk down to the track but we were stopped by one of the workers. But I think he only stopped us so he could promote it lol This is also a quick drive to Downtown/Historic/Main Street BC. So I would also recommend the quick drive down Nevada Way to check it out also after the train ride.

Yelp
This is a neat museum that shows a lot of southern Nevada's history with trains! There are mail and rocket carrier trains and you can actually go on one of the working trains for a ride. It's a lot of fun for a family day

Yelp
If your kids are into trains, take them here. We made it over to Boulder City this past weekend for the 13th annual Santa Train and I plan on making it a yearly tradition. I definitely recommend purchasing tickets online at least a week in advance as they always sell out. However, if you miss out on boarding Santa's train, there is a museum and several free activities to make your trip worthwhile. Riding the live steamers (a collection of small trains built and run by a group of hobbyists) was actually more memorable for my daughter than the actual Santa train, and it was free. You can show your appreciation by leaving a donation to help with train and track maintenance. The Santa Train costs $6 per person. I purchased three tickets in advance. I was only able to use two on the day of the event, and asked the cashier if she would be able to pass my third ticket along to another hopeful passenger. Instead, she happily refunded $6 to me, a nice surprise. It's about a 30 minute ride that travels a few miles out before returning to the station in reverse. We sat in the last car, which cut short our visit with Santa as he made his way to the back as the train reached the station. He still had time to take a photo with each family while a long line of people waited to board the next train. This is a popular event, but it never felt crowded and wait times were short. Visiting in December also gives you the opportunity to see an original steam engine from 1875. I was told that the Eureka & Palisade is the oldest running locomotive in the country, and you can even go for a free ride while you're here!

Yelp
Work service ever. Bought tickets 5 days ago and still haven't received em. Spoke with 3 people , Scott, David and Laura. No help. They actually were super confusing contradicting eachother. Got no where. And David was a complete jerk. Argued with me. Spoke over me. And was on speaker phone with my kids in room! DO NOT GO HERE! I promise you, you'll be disappointed. Retired Marine just trying to take my grandkids to do something fun for Xmas time. Never got the tickets either. Had to ask for a refund since they couldn't. Wasted 5 hours of my life with them and couldn't simply get the tickets in 5 days after ordering. Not even one apology....wow. Take your business elsewhere. My whole family worked on railroads for generations and wanted to show the love to the next generation.

Yelp
We bought tickets for four for Santa Train. Literally walked the entire train front to back and could not find anywhere to seat because two people taking up space of four everywhere. You pay for two seats, you don't get to take up four. No enforcement of space so we ended up getting off the train. Big disappointment, waste of time snd $$$. Never again.

Yelp
I didn't go for the train ride but to check out it's cool. I probably would check out Tom Devlin's horror Museum with this because the railway is short but its free.
