The 4 Best Hostels in Cape Town (Updated 2025)

"Set in the energetic Green Point neighborhood, this is a fun party hostel and one of the few with air-conditioned rooms—great during peak summer heat—but the rooms are very basic with outlets, a shelf, creaky metal bunks and thin mattresses. What it lacks in comfort it makes up for with super friendly staff and an energetic atmosphere: they organize daily activities like trivia, braais and hikes, run an active hostel WhatsApp group, host daily happy hours at the bar, and offer bike rentals, a pool, a large kitchen and a few indoor workspaces if you work online." - Matthew Kepnes

I really enjoyed my stay at Never@Home. Cleanliness and friendliness is a must for me. I stayed in many hotels and I must say I really enjoyed this one. The rooms were extremely clean and had everything needed. I will definitely be back! The only downfall was the netflix that did'nt work but that was no big deal for me. I ended up watching YouTube. Staff came to assist as soon as I sent them a whatsapp message. The staff is willing to do anything for their guests to make their stay absolutely perfect. My daughter was thirsty when we got back from the game and reception had ice cold water to buy. Restuarant kitchen closes at 9pm. That was not even a big deal as they have a 24 hour pizza and pizza place right next door. Th bar remains open until midnight. I will definitely be back. See you soon.

N@H Green Point absolutely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I checked in, I felt well taken care of. The staff were genuinely friendly and made the place feel warm and welcoming — you can tell the vibe here is built on good people and great service.||||The rooms were super comfy, with high-quality bedding, an AC Unit and thoughtful details like Hans Grohe shower appliances. I also appreciated the little luxuries — daily room service, complimentary soap, and a super useful infoboard to stay in the loop. It really feels like a hostel that understands what travelers value most.||||The location is perfect — close to restaurants, grocery options, pharmacy, laundry service, ATM, etc - all in max 5 min walking distance. Also close to the Stadium and to the Waterfront. Despite being in the middle of all action, the hostel still feels relaxed and safe. It’s a great home base outside the main centre to explore Cape Town. The design is smart and modern, with a cool atmosphere that balances social energy and comfort.||||If I had to name anything that could be improved, it would be minor: a few power outlets were loose, the communal kitchen could be a bit better stocked, and clearer info on pricing extras would help avoid surprises. But honestly, these didn’t take away from what was an amazing stay.||||I’d come back in a heartbeat. One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed in — highly recommend!

Great location! It’s in one of the relatively safe locations in Cape Town. It’s close to the ocean, and there are lots of restaurants nearby. For cheap eats, a SPAR grocery store is right next door. Couldn’t complain about the facilities. Everything was kept clean, common areas are spacious as well as the dorm rooms, i found the kitchen facilities complete, WiFi worked great, and there’s a small pool where guests can cool off on a hot day. There’s an in house bar and restaurant and i found the food and drinks reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful. They also hold group activities daily which makes it easy to meet fellow travelers. Honestly I couldn’t ask for more. I’d definitely stay here again if I go back to Cape Town.

We booked a female dorm room - each of use got a voucher for a glass of free wine at the Randy Warthog - such a winner ! The room was clean and fresh! Staff were extremely helpful and we were able to book a parking without any struggle!! No noise at night and in such a central awesome area! After experiencing many different hostels I would without a doubt say this is the best one in Cape Town. Would definitely recommend!!

This was by far the worst nightmare I’ve ever experienced. My bag pack with my computer and passport were stolen by another guest (who had been checked in by reception with a valid ID and credit card). The staff pretended to offer support but, in the end, did nothing—not even a formal apology. Their lack of responsibility and complete disregard for guests’ safety is shocking. The security here is a joke, and this ended up being the worst experience of my life.

The place looks great – modern, clean, and stylish – but the real stars are the staff. So friendly and attentive, honestly some of the nicest people we’ve met on our trip! My friend and I are kind of professional spillers/droppers (if it can fall, we’ll probably drop it), but the team always helped with a smile. 10/10 would recommend

Very good hostel for solo travelers! I booked a king bedroom which had a good price-to-value. The room was mostly clean and there was enough space. The walls were narrow though so you can hear the other rooms quite well. The Hostel staff was always friendly and helpful. I did a lot of activities from the Hostel such as the free market, best of the cape and township tour. Phil is a great tour guide! It was easy to connect with other people in the lobby and if you’re traveling alone you have no troubles in making new connections here. I suggest booking a private room as I‘ve heard that people in the shared rooms sometimes had issues with other travelers and cleanliness (roaches, food, dirt). The Hostel has a good location for visiting Cape Town and I always felt safe here.

The staff of the Never@home hostel were very friendly from the get go and told us where we should go with our car. The location next to the waterfront also meant you could walk there during the day. Further than that, the atmosphere in the hostel was good and well maintained by the staff!
