The 4 Best Hostels in Cape Town (Updated 2025)

"Set in the energetic Green Point neighborhood, this is a fun party hostel and one of the few with air-conditioned rooms—great during peak summer heat—but the rooms are very basic with outlets, a shelf, creaky metal bunks and thin mattresses. What it lacks in comfort it makes up for with super friendly staff and an energetic atmosphere: they organize daily activities like trivia, braais and hikes, run an active hostel WhatsApp group, host daily happy hours at the bar, and offer bike rentals, a pool, a large kitchen and a few indoor workspaces if you work online." - Matthew Kepnes

Dont be put off by it being a backpackers. The rooms had everything you would need, were clean and spacious. It was full on our visit but we were not disturbed by any noise. The food and drink at the attached bar are at a good price and can be taken back to your room if you dont want to stay in the bar. The communcal areas are spacious and clean and well looked after. It is a 10-15minute walk to the V&A and 5 minutes and you are on the Green Pathway leading to the promenade. The staff were very welcoming and accomodating with my early arrival (luggage can be stored until checkin)

I stayed at Never@Home Green Point for 4 nights and had an amazing time! The vibes are super chill and social — it’s really easy to meet people from all over, whether you're hanging out in the common areas or chatting at reception. A huge shoutout to Luyolo, who was incredibly helpful and always present at the front desk. He made my stay smoother with his friendly attitude and willingness to assist everyone. His energy really stands out! There was another staff member (I didn’t catch his name) who was also friendly, but a bit too touchy for my comfort. I think a little more professionalism and focus on duties would improve the experience. The hostel itself is clean, well-organized, and has a great atmosphere. However, I do have one concern: the entry codes (4747 for the main door and 4848# for upper floors) are too widely known and don’t change often. This makes it easy for outsiders to sneak in, especially at night when staff rotations mean no one remembers who checked in. Unfortunately, this has led to incidents like non-guests using the communal washrooms and leaving a mess. I strongly recommend updating the access system to prevent this. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend Never@Home for its vibe, cleanliness, and standout staff like Luyolo. Just a few tweaks and it would be a perfect 5-star experience!

Amazing Hostel, Stuff is really nice. Also the Area is nice, never felt unsafe, the also have a Code to open the door which they hänge like once a week|The Bar was great, food is very good (Wrap with Steak and Feta - amazing) Trivia Night is fun. Loved the Activities.|A Store is right next to the Hostel, also Restaurants, it's a 10 Min Walk to the VA Waterfront. I was in a 4 Bed Mixed Room, the also have a Bathroom on the floor. Very clean, Beds are comfortable (but loud if you turn around) they have a kitchen with a big fridge, which is very helpfull. Pool is small but is quite nice. I would definitiv stay there again, nice people, great Area. Loved it ♥️

I recently stayed at never@home Green Point and overall had a decent experience. The security and location are definitely the highlights — I felt safe throughout my stay, and the area is convenient for getting around. The amenities were solid, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much bigger the place is once you get inside; the entrance doesn’t do it justice. I also appreciated that they provide towels, which isn’t always a given at similar places.||The main downside, however, was the behavior of the general manager. It was highly disappointing and really took away from what could have been a much more positive stay. With better management interactions, this place could easily earn a higher rating.

The hostel itself is nice. What’s actually extremely terrible are the bunk beds. Those are the cheapest and worst bunk beds I ever had. They provide no privacy and are extremely loud as they move around and are not in any way integrated in the wall or something. They use those temporary standing beds that almost no other hostel is using anymore. Super uncomfortable if you are on the top bunk. You can’t even be quit opening the locker even if you try.

I had a wonderful stay at this hostel! The atmosphere was welcoming, the rooms were clean, and everything was well organized. The staff was incredibly friendly and always ready to help. A special shout-out to Taona, who was absolutely amazing, very kind, attentive, and genuinely committed to making guests feel comfortable. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!||Thanks!

The facility is so well located within walking distance to spacious kitchen and hangout area to socialize with other travelers. My room was clean, and the bed was comfy, so I had 2 nights of restful sleep there. Hard to believe the price i paid. For what I got, it was certainly hard to beat! Highly recommend it and will definitely stay there again!||A special shout-out to the manager Shaan, who made sure nothing would be left unresolved. I had an issue with my transfer. Shaan made sure the issue was resolved to my satisfaction. His extra efforts certainly didn't go unnoticed. Aslo want to mention the very friendly front desk staff, especially Taona, who was always there to help with a big smile. Overall, this place made me feel so very welcome as a solo female traveler.||

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The service is excellent, and the price is very reasonable. Truly a great place to stay.
