Went shopping in Esplanade and decided to have lunch here. This almost century-old restaurant came highly recommended by a relative, and it was my first time visiting.
For my wife and me, I ordered one plate of mutton stew, one tandoori roti, one plate of mutton biryani, and a firni for dessert. The mutton stew, despite its name, was actually slow-cooked mutton in a rich onion and tomato gravy—paired with tandoori roti, it tasted heavenly.
The biryani was Kolkata-style, served with a signature big potato and a generous piece of mutton. What we loved most was how light it felt, with a very subtle aroma of rose water and kewra water. As for the firni—it was one of the best I’ve ever had! I’d come back just for that. We also packed an extra plate of biryani to take home.
Overall, it was a nice experience. However, we did notice some hygiene issues, which is why I can’t give this place a full five-star rating.
