On the Grid : New Brighton Park

"This green space and beach area is surrounded by industrial plants which give it an interesting ‘industry meets the beach’ vibe. I wouldn’t recommend swimming there, though some do. The park regulars are a perfect mix of happy families, dog lovers, and chill folks as well as the odd eccentrics. If you’re a dog owner, this is the place to go in the winter to run your pup. The dogs basically rule this park during the rainy season." - WoodType

Been a long minute since we have been here. Wanted to skip some rocks but didn’t want a far drive. Playground not too shabby and the fields are long and green. The dock is tiny but if you looking for a nice view of the bridge into North Van or some industrial sights, just come here.

Beautiful park with stunning northern views. Brighton Pool (next door) was closed when I visited. Small off‑leash dog area, but little shade, no public restrooms, and only street parking—spots fill up fast.

Great park with stunning views of North shore. The park is right next to the Brighton pool. There are ample picnic benches, play area for kids, off-leash enclosure for dogs and seating spots along the water’s edge.

New Brighton Park is a hidden gem in East Vancouver, offering stunning waterfront views that make it a fantastic spot for nature lovers. The scenery is breathtaking, with the Burrard Inlet framed by the North Shore Mountains and the iconic Iron Workers Memorial Bridge. Watching freighters glide by against this backdrop feels serene and almost magical, perfect for a peaceful picnic or a relaxing stroll. The park’s grassy fields, sandy beach, and off-leash dog area add to its charm, making it family-friendly and versatile. The playgrounds are great for kids, and the heated outdoor pool is a summer highlight, though the industrial surroundings slightly detract from its appeal compared to places like Stanley Park. However, parking is a real challenge, especially during peak times. The lots on Wall Street and New Brighton Road fill up quickly, and street parking is limited. I’ve circled around multiple times, and it’s frustrating when you just want to enjoy the park. Some visitors even risk parking in unauthorized spots, which can lead to towing. Despite this, the park’s beauty and amenities make it worth the hassle. Arrive early to snag a spot, and you’ll be rewarded with a memorable day out.

Quieter park than others with great views of the North Shore and shoreline. Limited trails and street parking when the pool is closed but easily accessible.

Lots of space for everyone. Not every area is shaded and not too many picnic benches but it has a great view and you don't feel crammed

It’s a lovely little park, perfect for an afternoon walk. The beach is quite small, and it doesn’t seem like a place for swimming, but it offers a peaceful view of the North Vancouver mountains. If you look closely, you might even spot jellyfish in the water, which is really cool. The park has a variety of amenities, including a pool, dog park, children’s playground, picnic tables, and more. I even saw a few people fishing there. It’s located near a large factory, so you may notice some background noise, but overall, it’s a good spot to relax and enjoy summer .

One of my favorite outdoor pools. Nice place to relax for all levels of swimmers. Enjoy the fish and chips. The beach is a nice place to see the harbor and go for a swim if you dare. Nice views of iron workers bridge, mountains, lions gate bridge, downtown skyline and ships. Reclaimed area is nice. Bring your dog. Easy access by bike. Bus is trickier:,walk from Pacific Coliseum about ten minutes. Lots of picnic tables and open grassy areas

Yelp
Lovely park in East Vancouver. This is my go to relax spot at the park. You have beautiful views of North Vancouver and all the mountains. The bridge on the right is quite beautiful. You can watch ships sail through the sea. Everytime I come here, there's not many people, it's so relaxing. There's a playground for kids. The grass is green and pristine. Free parking is a plus. Very safe, no homeless people. There's a soccer field that's rarely used. There's a small rocky beach. You can swim if you dare. This is almost a hidden gem of Vanouver. The pool is awesome except the staff suck and getting entry is pulling teeth (see my review).

Yelp
Staff are helpful, facilities are rudementary but clean, lap swimming is a 25m four lane area. Not bad, but it's not Kits Pool.

Yelp
Can't believe I've lived here all these years without knowing this park existed. So that's what's on the far end of the overpass. Parking is available in a small lot by the overpass. Looks like there is nowhere near enough parking during the summer months. There are also a few spots on the street. The park offers a very nice view of Burrard Inlet and the North Shore. There is also a large dog park, an outdoor pool, and some tennis courts. Looks like a prime place to visit and chill during the warmer months.

Yelp
Now that we have kids, finding parks where twin toddlers can be semi-contained are all the rage. We visited on a glorious pre-Spring morning and were impressed with the mini-sized playground for pint-sized kiddos. In addition this park has an endless field (at least for two-year olds) to run to their heart's content AND a safe dock with no chance of them falling into the ocean. Have toddlers with an always full gas tank? Run them empty here!

Yelp
You don't need to drive all the way to Kits to enjoy a huge grassy park with water views. New Brighton Park is just across the street from Playland/PNE. This park has a beautiful view of the mountains and the Burrard Inlet. What I love about this place is that it makes me feel as if it isn't 2012. It's a mix of the new and old coming together to provide a comfortable place to read or think. You'll see modern facilities such as a playground, swimming pool and tennis courts, while tug boats and old style cargo trains pass by. Enjoy a picnic or let your dogs run free in the off-leash areas any day of the week here.

Yelp
Beautiful park for a picnic. There are 2 lots for parking nearby. Playground and outdoor pool thats convenient for families. We had a picnic waterfront under a tree. The view was nice and there was a breeze too! There is a trail nearby for cyclists. The park is big and not too busy. Saw some families having a BBQ there too!

Yelp
Wow. You know how you can live right near something for a while and not check it out and when you do, it's like "OMG. how have I not come here before?!" The park is lovely and clean with grass to picnic on or play. Sit and read in the sun, enjoy the amazing unobstructed view of the inlet and mountains, and the 2nd Narrows Bridge. You can watch the freighters being pushed by tug boats to a nearby mooring. Dogs allowed in the off leash area. This park is underutilized but I can easily see forward to a future of discovery and improvements, (like maybe a cafe?) There is a concession stand which serves up all the usual unhealthy foods, but BONUS the fries are gluten free, made in a dedicated Gfree fryer. YAY! SO until it gets discovered by the masses and overrun with crowds, it's kind of a coveted local secret, like so many other things in this area.

Yelp
I love this park! The views are beautiful, especially if you get a piece of the pool in your sight line. Who needs Kits, amirite?! Lots of green space for whatever park shenanigans you're into, some playground equipment to get your swing on, gravel trails to do your jog on, lots of stairs to run if you're into that, and some beach front action that all the puppies seem to love. It's everything awesome wrapped up in a nice little package.

Yelp
I can't believe today was the first time I've been here. WHAT?!?!? There's lots of parking which is a bonus. I didn't even know there was a swimming pool! It's a really nice pool, especially for kids when it has the gradual beach incline into the water. Of course my favorite is the view and the dog park. It's a really big park, much bigger than I had thought it was! The dog park area is nice and I only saw one turd which is a nice change from some other parks.

Yelp
Most of east Vancouver's waterfront is the port of Vancouver: a huge stretch is inaccessible between Crab Park at the top of Main and New Brighton Park right beside Second Narrows. The location is nice and open, but the views are a little industrial (the main view is of a grain elevator), and the park is a touch denuded and careworn. There are bathrooms and parking on sight. What this park really needs is a bit of face lift: more trees, maybe a bit more landscaping, and something to connect it with Hastings Park to the south. That may happen someday,,, but as is, it's probably not worth going out of your way to visit if you're not a local.

Yelp
Vast planes of grass, a small swimming pool behind the burrard inlet, tunnels under the railway tracks covered in graffiti, and fenced off areas where people sometimes fish or make bonfires, despite legislation. That's New Brighton Park! Right between the Iron Workers Bridge and the docks, where no one really pays attention to the coast. There's old ruins of buildings, a swimming pool and public washrooms, long snaking footpaths, and a noisy highway, but otherwise the space is pretty much uninterrupted grass. A good place to get all moody through our world famous overcast, or to throw the dusty frisbee during our sixty days of sunlight!

Yelp
This park and pool are both busy but still extremely clean. The staff at the pool were very nice and polite even though I asked questions I'm sure they have heard one million times. This is definitely a perfect hangout spot for the summer.

Yelp
I love biking or walking down to the park year round! We have the best views of the mountains and the ocean from the park. In the warmer months it is a great place to bring the hibachi down (on my bike!) and have a little gathering. My bf and I did our 2014 Winter Challenge here as well. The pool, playground, playing fields, tennis courts, and picnic tables make this a classy joint! Wait til Empire Park opens and the secret will be out, everyone will want to move to our little corner of NE Van!

Yelp
Been going to New Brighton for years. Love the open feeling, the view of the mountains, watching all the marine traffic, the pool and picnic area. And I used to love the freedom to be able to walk my dogs off leash throughout most of the park. Now the city has done a massive redesign and limited dogs to one or two small areas including a fenced, let's all stand around and watch our dogs run in circles, off leash areas. And signs are everywhere about off leash dogs. Made me feel that the Monty Python boot was about to come down and stomp on me if I didn't leash my dogs immediately. Big Sigh.

Yelp
This park is AMAZING. It's got rolling green fields and plenty of space to toss a frisbee or play volleyball on as well as a playground, picnic tables, and an incredible view of the beauty that is the industrial waterway. It's a really interesting juxtaposition being sandwiched between the train tracks on one side and the factories on the other side of the water. The pool isn't open yet, but it must be amazing to just spend the day swimming and lounging about the park during the summer months!

Yelp
love this little gem of a park. weekday evenings are the best, morning and afternoons can get hectic on the weekends. get some super tasty fries when you are there ask for extra crispy...

Eva L.

Yelp
Try the fish & chips at the concession stand. Fish have a beer batter like English style coating and is very crispy. Fries are good too. Owner has operated there 46 years already with third generation grand children now helping out as staff.
