I recently visited this hidden gem New China Salon, a hair salon I've been going to on and off for almost 20 years. They do specialize in both gender. It's located on a strip with other hair salons, but I keep coming back to this one because of its consistent service and quality hair outcomes. I typically visit the salon for the service called haircut and shampoo or just a regular shampoo service. The shampoo experience is top-notch and feels like a luxurious deep cleaning and a massage. It's a nice touch and brings back great memories of my visit to China. I decided to try their oil treatment on a recent visit due to my extremely dry hair. I choose the pricier option for oil treatment. While the container said "green tea," the scent was more perfume-like and it was not my preferred scent. However, I was happy with how hydrated my hair felt afterwards. The cost for the oil treatment was $60 which is a bit pricy and not on the advertised menu.
One thing I appreciate about New China Salon is that their pricing is set, so there are no surprises or awkward moments if the cost isn't within your budget. I was charged $15 for my haircut, which is a good deal considering I have a lot of hair. This salon used to cater mostly to seniors, but it now serves a younger demographic. The menu listed facial and eyebrow waxing service but I never seen someone provide those service. The space doesn't seem like an ideal place to have it as well. As I was peaking through the window, the owner warmly welcomed me into New China Salon, which was previously known as New China Beauty Salon. Despite the change in ownership, the same staff remains, with a few new stylists added to the team. While the decor may be old-school, I prioritize affordability and hair outcomes over aesthetics.
The salon is open 9am-6:30pm everyday. Ling is my preferred stylist because she is friendly, hard-working, and remembers me as her customer. It's also a plus that she knows English, although I'm not sure of her level of proficiency. She works six days a week and off Tuesdays. She usually does the hair wash but someone else may assist her on the weekends. If this is the case, you'll need to tip two staff members instead of one. They offer the option to pay through the phone, but physical cash is preferred. Overall, I recommend New China Salon for those seeking affordable and consistent hair services.
In my opinion, the salon owner could consider enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the establishment by equipping each stylist station with a basket that can accommodate all the necessary hair products. Additionally, incorporating a vibrant wall color and installing curtains for the coat rack would be a great idea. It would be beneficial if these elements were incorporated into a theme, as this would make the salon appear more visually appealing and inviting.
