I had a wedding in the area and originally planned to stay at a hotel with rooms blocked for the wedding. I went to book the other hotel and tbh it seemed overpriced for what it was. I looked at other hotels in the area and found New Haven Hotel. It looked nicer and more boutique-y and was a better price so my husband and I decided to stay there instead. ||The lobby was spacious and the hotel was quiet. Our room was nice and comfy so I’m happy that we booked this one. I wish they had a breakfast or something but otherwise everything was great and we found a good brunch spot down the street. It was a central location as well. ||We had a last minute change of plans where we needed to change the dates of our stay. Stephanie L at the front desk was able to assist us and was very accommodating. She made the process easy and I’m so grateful for that. I would stay here again if I’m ever back in New Haven.

Google
Wonderful hotel with friendly and very competent staff. We were greeted by Stephanie on the day that we arrived, and she made us feel at home and took such good care of us that I had to say something about it because she went above and beyond any experience I have had at any hotel I have been to in the US. The only downside about the hotel is that the block toward the large parking garage has a lot of homeless people and smells like a urinal, but if you go right from the hotel entrance, the next street over has wonderful restaurants and leads towards the Yale campus and it's beautiful architecture.

Had a great stay at the New Haven Hotel. Very conveniently located, and I felt safe. The hotel staff was very helpful. Because the microwave was in the lobby, I actually used the lobby, and it was nice! The rooms were clean with comfortable beds, but had very thin walls - I could hear the person next door cough! Thankfully nothing that disturbed me too much even though I was by the elevators - I got used to the noises of the heavy doors opening and closing, and the toilet flushing next door.

Our room was so hot, the air went off when we left the room and we came back to an 80 degree room. We set it to the max because we were going out exploring and it was super hot out. The maintenance man kept telling us the air was working but the thermostat stayed pretty high. He went to show my husband the room next door and ended up walking into a room with sleeping patrons. We traveled from MD up to Nova Scotiaa f back, staying in 6 hotels and this was a biggest let down. The location was good, but wouldn’t stay here again.

We were in town just for a night, heading to visit my parents locally. We decided to stay in New Haven, and found a good deal at this hotel. It is in a prime location one block from the bars and restaurants on Crown St. The staff were lovely and they had a little area where you could purchase wine/beer or snacks just by reception. The room was clean and nice. The gym onsite was functional with some machines and weights. We would definitely stay again!

Google
Surprisingly easy and comfortable for the price. No frills (I don't need a bar restaurant or complimentary breakfast, and they don't offer those...yes there's coffee!). Lobby welcoming (with parking on-site super easy), the room is a good size w couch area, dedicated workspace, draperies that block the light, nice linens and mattress. Staff went above and beyond in my interactions with them both at check-in and the next morning.

Google
Location was great and the rooms were clean. While they do not offer breakfast. Stephanie and Stephanie Rachel were behind the desk during our stay. They were beyond fantastic and knowledgable! The level of care and knowledge they provided was second to none. We can't wait to come back!

We had a great stay at The New Haven Hotel. Diahema welcomed us and made sure that we had everything we needed and got us quickly checked in. |I am disabled and she made sure that I had an accessible room which was very appreciated. |The room and bathroom were clean and the king bed was very comfortable. |They have snacks that are self checkout in the main lobby, which I also liked. |We will come back again if we are in New Haven!

Yelp
You get what you pay for! This was one of the cheaper hotels in the area but it left a lot to be desired! The rooms were dated and the walls were paper thin. We were put in a king room that had a connecting room which made it even easier to hear everything from your neighbors. I was woken up twice by other people! The front desk staff we dealt with were all lacking in customer service. When we asked for a slightly later checkout (since I was consistently woken up early) we got laughed at and were told no. Definitely can't recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Great stay. Great location. Less expensive than the Omni around the corner. Great managers happy hour. Friendly front desk.

Yelp
A STEAL of a price for being in the middle of everything on a friday night in New Haven. I stayed here with my girlfriend on a nice overnight getaway. The rooms are a good size and very clean. The staff was really friendly and accomodating, the beds are very comfy, the location is unbeatable. There isn't really a view but who cares? I loved it. I am staying there again on Friday!

Yelp
We loved our stay at the New Haven Hotel. We stayed here for a week from 2/12/21 to 2/19/21 and we're absolutely beyond satisfied with our stay in room 713. This hotel is conveniently located near many restaurants, shopping and plenty of places to visit while in the New Haven area. We took many walks in the snow around downtown New Haven just to look at Yale University and other points of interest such as The New Haven Green. Now let's get back to my review of The New Haven Hotel. The King Room with sleeper bed was clean, roomy, well laid out and had an awesome patio that we sat on had some wine and watched the snow fall. Our bed was comfortable and had quality linens and pillows that make a difference when traveling. Our bathroom had quality shampoos and soaps for us and they have full size towels to dry ourselves off with. The shower had great water pressure which felt great when we were tired from walking throughout the city. Parking was secure and easily accessible from the second floor elevator which was great as we had a rental car for 3 days. The New Haven Hotel also provides a good continental breakfast which we enjoyed every morning, especially the coffee. No place is a success without a great team and that where The New Haven Hotel really shines!! Team members JAMIE, PARRIS and SULAV are fantastic hosts that made us feel welcomed from the moment we entered the property and we'd like to thank them for making our stay memorable, they really took care of us and treated us like family. Like I said this hotel knows customer service, especially when we checked in and I forgot my shaving razor, SULAV quickly came to the rescue and provided one at no charge!! The hotel sells wine and beer and both JAMIE and PARRIS took care of our needs in that department and we appreciated them for that. The hotel is being updated in the reception area and it looks amazing!! The laundry room was convenient and well stocked. Couldn't ask for a safer, cleaner, easily accessible hotel in the downtown New Haven area. Thank you to Valerie and all the staff at The New Haven Hotel. We'll be back!!

Yelp
We have been staying here once or twice a year for the last 5 years. My wife participates in the Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative study and the hotel is super convenient, right across the street. This visit we have noticed a number of changes in service, starting with only 1 person on the desk and having 6 or 8 cars jammed into the driveway and a line spilling out into the street while guests waited to register. Parking (still included) has been temporarily moved to a different garage, literally around the block but the map/directions were almost unintelligible. We had a little trouble figuring out where to go inside the garage, where signs said both "Exit" and "Parking" in the same direction, through what looked very much like an exit gate. Nice attendant helped us out and got us to laugh. We were told no more breakfast included - there was a very nice buffet pre-Covid. Lobby was renovated during Covid and is very sleek and modern, comfortable place to work. Apparently no more Managers Wine & Cheese receptions at night - wine for purchase, along with some snack items and coffee. Front desk refused my request for a one-hour delay on check out, said they already had five and could not take any more. Went up to the room to gather our belongings and in spite of a do not disturb sign on the door, at 10:45 there was housekeeping tapping on the door. Check out is at 11, and I told her I would be gone by then. Not the level of service and amenities we had come to expect, and we will be asking PPMI to book us at a different hotel next visit.

RR P.

Yelp
I would give zero stars. Stuff goes missing. I had my room serviced and my dress went missing. When I approached the front desk the woman dismissed me and just shrugged her shoulders. She said the housekeeping couldn't have taken it bc they said they didn't take it. Even though it went missing after I got my room serviced. I would be wary of this place and definitely not coming back.

Yelp
Good Hotel Beautiful appearance, Average experience, Good location. What I liked: * CLEAN ROOM (most important detail) * Nice, Quiet Room * Lots of Outlets (A/C, but not USB) * Nice Work-Out Room * Mostly Friendly Staff * Location. Near shops, restaurants, theater, downtown, etc. * National Car Rental 3 blocks away. * Lots of foot traffic around (good & bad) What I did NOT like: * Apparently they had credit card connection issues (but insisted it was my fault/credit. Lol! I'll explain below) * Took hours to warm my room. It simply did not blow very warm. * Toilet issues. (It was an extremely low toilet -lowest I've ever seen) that also has the strongest flush! It would actually splash OUTSIDE of the toilet! * Had to request for bar of soap. How could they forget??? * Breakfast not bad included. * "Restaurant" in the Hotel was not open in the evening! (How is this a "restaurant?") * Parking across the street. No longer a tunnel access. $22 / day parking. * Free cookies in the lobby were burnt! I mean really burnt! Dark & hard! It was hilarious that they would put those out for guests. Hope this was helpful! Short Story (My Arrival Experience) I was traveling on business and a local company was paying for my room. I had reservation information, but the clerk informed me that their credit card authorization was not approved. I arrived after 6pm so the company hosting me had already closed for the day. No Problem! I would just pay myself. Then, my credit card was declined! Weird! Maybe cause I'm out-of-town? So I used a 2nd card. It, too, was declined! We joked about me having to sleep in my car. The clerk asked me to call my CC company. After a long wait, the CC company said no charges were ever ran (no transactions attempted). It would show on his screen immediately. It must be a communication problem or with his CC terminal. The clerk took my phone & spoke with the rep for some time. Almost to not believe him either. Finally, his coworker said she was also having the same issue. All's well that ends well! I regret that they could not be a little more professional and not assume I'm trying to cheat them.

Yelp
Had a pleasant stay at the New Haven Hotel. Check in was quick and easy. The room was large with fast and strong WiFi. The bed was comfy and the heating system kept the room at a consistent temperature. I paid for the hot breakfast buffet. It was a standard hotel hot breakfast with sausage, bacon, hotel scrambled eggs, pancakes, etc. The food was nothing special and I wish it was included in the cost of the hotel. The server was friendly and attentive. The location was close to Yale and to the medical center. The one negative was that I needed to get some work done in the lobby after check out and there weren't many outlets to use. They have a long table with outlets but they weren't working.

Johnny T.

Yelp
Nice hotel but indifferent day staff and rude night staff. $300 a night and when I asked for a water the shift manager wouldn't even look at me, just told me they didn't know if they had any and to look myself. They had ample and charged me for it as well. Nice hotel but not worth the visit.

Yelp
I had a very nice stay over the 2019 Thanksgiving holiday. I checked in around 4pm aftee walking around Yale's campus. It was a pretty cold blustery day so I was happy to find my room heated up quickly to 80°. The shower did take few minutes to heat up, so turn it on and go get your toiletries and clothes set up in the meantime. I had a single bedroom, and it was comfortable for 1, the right amount of space. The room had a TV, a DVD player, mini fridge, safe and coffee maker. Not too many frills but you're right near restaurants, a movie theater, transportation CVS for last minute snacks and Yale's old campus. It's a safe and comfortable deal. Staff was sweet. Check in and out were quick and painless. One odd thing is I didnt have a binder for the room. The one that sort of explains the hotel procedure's. I guessed check out was 11, which it is but I'm used to referring to the binder for that. They have a 2nd floor dining room and a gym somewhere I didnt go looking for. The lobby is spacious. A good place to meet up with friends, family or colleagues. I would come back here again. Very central location, very clean, very safe and very comfortable.

Yelp
I was going to be discreet and keep this issue between me and the property, but since the staff member at the front desk on the morning of my checkout at 10:20am, lied and said the photos I showed to them of the bed bugs were actually just "fluff," I'm going to post about the bed bugs that I found on the bed in room 423 in my review. I booked a room on Friday, August 13th around 9pm and was given room 423. When I inspected the room, with my luggage and belongings in the bathroom, I lifted the fitted sheets and moved everything around on the bed. Lo and behold, there were smears on the sheets and on the pillow cases. On the mattress pad beneath the fitted sheet, there were multiple bed bugs and bed bug carcasses, in addition to hairs everywhere. The linens had clearly not been cleaned thoroughly. When I addressed it with the front desk immediately that same night, around 10pm, the staff member who was there was very friendly, helpful and quickly changed my room. I showed him pictures I had taken of one of the bugs and he didn't question it. He suggested that I contact frontdesk@newhavenhotel.com, so I did and included the picture. The room I was switched into was inspected by me and I found it to be clean and bed bug free, my stay was fine and I have no bug bites. I'm thankful for the great customer service of the gentleman at the front desk at night and his positive responsiveness to my legitimate issue of bed bugs in room 423. However, on the morning of my checkout, the different staff member who was there around 10:20am, claimed that they looked at the bed and that the bed bugs in the picture I took was a piece of "fluff". This "fluff" is shaped exactly like a bed bug, is dark brown, reflects light, had an exoskeleton with horizontal lines across the circular part of the body, with the squared head and shoulders, and there were others on the bed. Whoever the company is that this staff member claimed they used, did not use a magnifying glass to see this or they would've known that the "fluff" were bed bugs. Even with my naked eyes before taking the picture, I knew those were bed bugs and not lint. So what kind of company and property is this? I felt I was being gaslit by this staff member at the front desk who was looking at the picture and telling me that it wasn't a bed bug, and then he showed me a picture on his own device of a piece of lint and it was not at all similar to mine. In addition to the poor service from the morning front desk person, the hotel is wildly overpriced. There are no amenities included in the price and there is no hot breakfast nor shuttle transportation to/from Union Station or the airport. The rooms are no better than Holiday Inn and Suites Express, which I also stayed at and their accommodations were wonderful, at half the price. Actually Holiday Inn was better.

Yelp
There are two excellent hotels in New Haven. . . and this isn't one of them. The good: The building is historic, so the rooms are spacious; the location is good; the price isn't entirely outrageous. The bad: The beds are lumpy, the air-conditioning is loud, the housekeeping is subpar (there was hair in the sink and on the soap dish), the furniture isn't terribly comfortable, the lighting is bright and glaring, the parking is weird and sketchy and there are miscellaneous costs that come as an unwelcome surprise (for example, $23/night to park). Oh: and a towel rack in the bathroom is inexplicably placed directly in front of the sink, which means you can't access the sink comfortably since there's a towel rack in your way. Meanwhile, there are bare walls on all sides which could easily accommodate the towel rack. . . Verdict: Don't. Go with The Study or The Omni instead for the few extra dollars and the considerably better experience.

Yelp
The hotel lobby and check-in, it's cleaning personnel and it's central location are the only good things about this hotel. I stayed here in early June with my wife and we were switched to different rooms twice. The first room we were assigned had two double beds instead of the queen bed we had requested at time of booking. Then, we were switched to a room with a queen bed that had a faulty AC blasting the room with hot air (it was 88 degrees in the room!). We were finally given a normal room with a free upgrade (slightly larger bathroom) for the inconvenience. There's also a $30 covered parking structure across the street, if you have a rental like me and/or don't want to risk street parking.

Sasha A.

Yelp
This place is a disaster and I will never stay here again. They call themselves a hotel but they don't clean your room. That means they don't take out the trash, replace your towels, provide fresh linen, etc. When I pointed this out at check out, I was told that "oh you should have been told when you checked in that we don't service rooms". The woman then immediately followed up with "it looks like no one told you that." That was it. No apologies, no explanation for the inconvenience, nothing. I was here only because the couple booked it for a wedding room block -- any decent people thinking of doing the same--don't. It's a complete dump and not worth even a quarter of the room rate.

Natasha B.

Yelp
The most disgusting hotel that I have ever stayed at. My family and I were in town for Yale graduation weekend so of course they hiked up the prices that weekend and the per night charge was approx $600. The first room (although non-smoking) reeked of smoke and alcohol. They gave another room but the sheets were dirty and smelled. The bathrobes had leftover hair and debris on them. Towels were weird colored as well.

Andrea H.

Yelp
First off the service provided was great! Erica T. is the absolute best, most friendly, and goes above and beyond. She is the reason I will return to this hotel. Hotel is clean and in a great location to walk to YSM and downtown.

Jane M.

Yelp
Believe it or not your hotel choices are very limited in New Haven but we found one of the best choices. The New Haven Hotel is located on the far end of the University in close proximity to the hospital and medical school. The hotel utilizes the parking lot across the street and you receive in and out privileges. It is $20 a day but you can't park on the street over night and most areas have two hour limits and charge $1.50 per hour in the meter but what are you going to do, constantly run down every two hours to feed the meter? Park in the lot for $20 and enjoy your time in New Haven. The hotel has a daily wine and cheese reception for guests that is really lovely. In the morning there is complimentary Starbucks coffee and tea in the lobby. The hotel staff is extremely friendly. Front desk staff was terrific. The sleeping rooms are top notch. Each room has a refrigerator, safe, coffee set up, plenty of outlets to charge all your devices and wonderful bathroom amenities. The lobby is very welcoming with little seating areas with several flat screens along with communal tables. There is a little snack shop and a restaurant as well that is open for breakfast. There are tons of restaurants in the area and you can walk everywhere. There are many new buildings and companies in this part of town that was at one time a little desolate and now is an up and coming area in New Haven. My only complaint is there are two elevators but it seems as if only one is operable so you do need to wait a bit. This is a modern, quiet, spotlessly clean and friendly hotel. A great choice if you are in town.

Star B.

Yelp
We made our reservation several weeks before , I called at 7pm the day of to say we will be arriving late our train from NYC was getting in at 10. They said that's no problem . Once we got there they had no clean room for us . The agent had to scramble to find a room that had been cleaned . He gave us the key and we had to try to find where the elevator was . Normally agents point out to you how to get to your room. Our room window opened to a brick wall . Not an exaggeration, a brick wall . They cleaned the room the second night but no shampoo or conditioner . The location is good and rooms are clean. At over $250 a night they can at least have your room ready for check in.

Francis H.

Yelp
Nice hotel, but the beds are not comfortable. They are very soft as are the pillows. When I asked for pillows that were more firm, I was told that there were none available. My back was hurting for days after my stay. I was not informed of all of the extra fees - $20/night parking fee and room tax that came to almost $60 for a 2 night stay. Also, a care package was left for me at the desk and I was not informed of it until I was checking out. Despite the cost and the discomfort, the staff is very kind, it's clean, and the location is fantastic. If you are just looking for a place to crash in Downtown New Haven, it is okay. However, I will not be staying there again.

Emily C.

Yelp
My most recent stay (New Years Eve) was much better than last year in terms of room cleanliness. You can't really beat the rates here - paired with the excellent location and good service, it's a solid option in New Haven. The only annoying part is that they changed the parking situation - now you need the room key to get in/out of the parking garage - we didn't realize this so it's definitely a hassle to realize after you've checked out & already returned the key.

Amber C.

Yelp
I did eventually hear back from their management team who apologized and gave us a discount on the room. Needless to say I will never stay at The New Haven Hotel ever again.

Nicole C.

Yelp
I recently stayed here for two nights because I attended a conference at Yale and this hotel is just a few blocks away. Overall I was happy with my experience and would definitely stay again. The bed was decent, the room was clean, and there was a mini fridge in a cabinet. I took some photos of the gym which was much nicer than many other similarly priced hotels I have stayed at. The staff were nice and helpful. On the day I left they called a cab for me. There was complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby in the morning. They also had a vending machine and other food items to buy 24hr a day and a microwave in a room located near the lobby. The hotel also provided a list of nearby restaurants with directions to each. The room had the usual shampoo, soap, shower gel, lotion and they also offered some additional toiletries upon request. They offered free wifi that worked so that was also a plus. I had to take a point off because when I first got into the room it had a musty smell. I turned the air system on and the smell did go away. Also, the hot breakfast buffet for $14, which did not include tax and tip, was only okay. The eggs tasted like any other scrambled eggs at a hotel breakfast buffet in that they didn't seem like fresh eggs. The waffle maker is always a nice touch but the waffle had a very bland taste. I decided to get a less expensive breakfast elsewhere the next day.

Jon O.

Yelp
Place is at a good location in regards to restaurants and what not. Wish I knew about the parking was cheaper by five dollars just one block away. The hotel's common area is well maintained and clean, but the rooms actually aren't. The sheets had a blood stain and a yellow stain which they quickly corrected within minutes. That experienced kind of grossed me out and wouldn't have expected from this type of hotel. The staff was sincere and they also did the right thing. The buffet breakfast selection was satisfying and tasty.

P D.

Yelp
Greetings travelers and/or citizens of New Haven. At a drunken 2 am stumble, I made my way into the lobby of this establishment. To be blunt, we weren't warmly greeted. There are no complimentary snacks or drinks and the aura was inexplicably dense. To top it all off, after taking a load off and plopping myself down on their horribly uncomfortable sofa, I was greeted by a singular HANES sock. This is unacceptable and quite frankly, disturbing. It is located east of the entrance, under the last futon. Me and my company were unpleasantly shocked and embarrassed that a hospital place as such would let it's lobby run a muck. If we are to ever return to this putrid excuse for a hotel lobby, we fully expect all socks to be removed. Good luck travelers.

Chen L.

Yelp
Located at the edge of downtown New Haven, the area itself was decent with a good selection of restaurants. Hotel room was on the smaller side but adequate for a short stay, everything was very clean. Customer service varies depending on who's at the desk - the gentleman in the morning was very nice but unfortunately the lady working in the evening can be rather curt. Regardless, it was a decent deal for the price you're paying.

Aim C.

Yelp
First time staying in a hotel in New Haven, and would not choose to come back to this hotel if I had the option. Appliances out dated. Still had a DVD player. No smart TV's. Not what I was expecting from a "luxury boutique" hotel as they like to call themselves. Breakfast $14 for regular, unappealing continental breakfast Parking garage charges $20 a night and $4 for every hour past check out Overall, everything was just okay. Not incredible and DEFINITELY not worth the price. I have been in chain hotels way nicer than this. For a "luxury boutique" hotel....I was very disappointed. I will certainly not be returning.

Kristina P.

Yelp
Unfortunately I didn't even have the chance to stay here because the hotel called me just 5 HOURS before check-in to let me know that they were over-booked and the room that I had booked and paid for in JANUARY for a June 18th stay would not be available. To make this horrible situation much, much worse, I was staying for a good friend's wedding and was already on my way when they called me. I told them that I was part of the wedding and asked/pleaded/begged if there was ANY way that they could honor my reservation over someone else's considering the bride and groom were also staying at the hotel and had blocked rooms. When I asked the hotel how they couldn't have figured out that they were over-booked earlier than 5 hours before check in, the hotel told me that other guests had decided to "extend their stay." So because another guest wants to stay an extra night you decide to kick people out? The woman that I spoke with was extremely rude, unsympathetic and unapologetic about the whole situation. So, if you'd like to take the chance of this hotel canceling your reservation just hours before you're scheduled to arrive, by all means, book a stay! I personally will never give this terribly run establishment my business ever again.

Jonathan B.

Yelp
I have stayed at this hotel in the past and had a very positive experience. My current stay is going well so far. Check-in was excellent, the room is in terrific condition, the room is quiet, and the staff have been helpful. I like the central location.

Lynne E.

Yelp
We had an air bnb that was awful & needed a place asap. New Haven Hotel was quick, efficient, friendly, clean. The beds are super comfy, we didn't wake up sore or stiff like usual. It was quiet even though there were many concert goers. Central to anything want to do on weekend & has parking that's convenient & worth the extra $5 a block away. It was reasonably priced for the area & when we go back we'll definitely stay there.

Mary C.

Yelp
Never got a chance to book a room. Called in October to set up a room block for June for my wedding. They said it was good and that they would send a contract . They never sent the contract and when I called to check up on it they took another three weeks to get back to me to say they were some out on one night and couldn't offer me the block I was initially told was mine. Ridiculous and bad form.

Mary T.

Yelp
The hotel is undergoing some big renovation, and the lobby is a kinda in transition. However, the rooms are totally done, bright, clean and pleasant. Widescreen HDTV with lots of premium channels, ultra comfy king bed, view window with light-blocking curtains, brand new furniture carpeting and bathroom with beautiful tile shower. I stayed here just one night while visiting Yale and had a most pleasant experience. The location is around the corner from great bistros and just a short stroll from campus. Quiet and pleasant with a terrific front desk staff. I got a good deal, $102 for a brand new room!

Victor W.

Yelp
This place is a great option for staying in the downtown New Haven area. It has been renovated and has a chic/modern feel to it. Staff is very welcoming. The bathroom was a little small but overall the accommodations were great. I'd say the place is a superb 3.5 star-level hotel with a very modern feel. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to be close to the Yale campus or downtown area and doesn't want to splurge a little on staying at The Study hotel.

Itali C.

Yelp
This place was a disappointment. We expected a higher end hotel but it was not that at all. Room was average, service not so great either.

Anthony J.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars and still have my review show up I would. First off the lady at the front desk was rude and acted like she had something better to do than her job when we needed another pillow and a clean sheet because the ones on our bed were not clean when we arrived. Overall, the room was gross and the floor was not vacuumed prior to us checking in. The bathroom was smelly and old looking. This place should be torn down and a dog park should go in its place for truckers who need to take a break. There is another Holiday Inn only 10 miles away that we ended up staying at the second night due to the poor conditions and filthy room we were given. Furthermore, the pool was closed during our stay apparently due to permits which is a direct reflection of the poor cleaning and maintenance crew run by the GM of this hotel. All the other pools at nearby Hotels are open currently but of course we stopped here because it was right off the exit and we were tired. This is the worst Hotel I have stayed at in my 21 years of Sales traveling around the US and Canada. If you want to remain disease free and not take any bed bugs hoe with you I would highly recommend staying somewhere else because this place is a dirt hole ran by uncomfortably inadequate and disrespectful staff members who don't care if your room is clean of if you return to stay because they know no one return a second time. I never fill out reviews but this was so bad I need to make everyone aware so you don't waste your money or catch a disease/ bed bugs. Thanks,

Lisa M.

Yelp
Restaurant is only open for short amounts of time for an expensive dinner and breakfast. Front door leads to the crummiest block in town. No room service. No bar. Room was eh, TV was HD but channels were not. Expected more for the price. King room had a Bed, desk with chair and one arm chair. Had to eat at desk, no couch or coffee table.

Yelp
We stayed here when touring Yale over Spring Break. It was a quick walk to the school and parking was right across the street. We were only here for one night but the room was fine and the staff was very nice. If we are in New Haven again, I think I would rather stay at the Omni, but this hotel was very good for the price.

Yelp
Nice little place. Parking not included but they do give u a card that u can use which I think they have a deal with the parking place. Opposite the hotel (they give u a map still!?!? Lol) Luckily got this on priceline deal and worked out really well. Comfortable. Free WiFi (no sign in crap). Great location. Can walk to bars and restaurants within a block or so. Recommended for the price we paid (use priceline express).

Yelp
There's often something both unsettling and thrilling about staying in a hotel in a town that you lived in for 5 years, and my stay at the New Haven Hotel this past weekend was no exception. First, the unsettling: 1. The bed. What at first glance appears to be a king-size turns out to be two TWIN-size beds pushed together. For real, two headboards and everything! Also, our bedspread looks like it was purchased in approximately 1972, and there are no blankets. I mean, I'm down with buget lodging and all that, but early spring in New England is COLD! Hook a sister up, will you? 2. The rest of the furnishings were equally dated and showed very noticeable signs of wear, including an extraordinarily conspicuous and suspect stain on the arm chair....ew. 3. CREEPY-ASS Victorian-style portraits on the wall. Who are these people and their babies staring down at me as I'm trying to fall asleep? Do not like. No. Leave me alone. 4. The light in the bathroom comes on about 3 seconds after the fan, which leaves you standing in complete darkness yet surrounded by loud rattling noises just long enough for you to start freaking out. OK, now the thrilling: 1. Free Wi-Fi! As trapped in the late 20th century as it is, NHH scores a big star for giving us free wireless in the room. Very useful for finding pizza delivery at 3 am. 2. The location is superb. Smack in the middle of downtown New Haven, we're able to walk absolutely everywhere, including the wedding, the wedding-after party, and the after-wedding-after-party snacks run to the deli. 3. Um...oh! Yankees network on the TV, so we could watch the game while getting ready for the wedding. Then, when we got back, we could watch them blow it on the Yankees Encore broadcast. All in all, completely fine place to stay. Downtown New Haven has about 3 hotels, so you're pretty much guaranteed to stay here if you don't want to cough up the $$ for the Omni. I'd just maybe recommend taking the pictures off the wall if you want to get a good night's sleep.

Yelp
Verbally Abusive Reception, No Management To Be Found. I spend 100+ business nights per year in hotels around the world. My stay on 12/21/14 at New Haven Hotel encountered the most verbally abusive reception ever experienced, seemingly with no oversight of management. Online reservations were smooth, and I requested my usual late checkout (1pm). Upon check in with "Melissa" I verbalized my late check out request, and she rudely said "You cannot make that request until I finish checking you in." She then proceeded with her check in, handed me my key, and assured me I'd have no problem parking because the hotel was half empty. The next morning I called down to reception at 10am to confirm I had a late check out. Again Melissa was on duty and she confirmed the request. At 12:15pm housekeeping knocked and I reiterated that I had a late check out, that I was showering and would be out by 1pm. The phone began ringing - and ringing - and ringing. I stepped from the shower to answer, and Melissa informed me that I had to be out by 12pm. I told her that no time had been specified, but I would be out by 1pm, had informed housekeeping, and that I was dripping water so needed to hang up the phone. She proceeded to berate me on the phone, saying I had to leave NOW. I reiterated that I was IN THE SHOWER and leaving would be impossible until she let me hang up the phone. She said I would be charged for a half-day stay, as per their "policy". Just before 1pm I went to the lobby where I met my colleague and proceeded to the front desk to check out. I informed Melissa that no time had been specified, and she said "I told you 12pm." I said "No, you told me you had to complete my check in before you could request the late check out in the system, but you did not stipulate a time. The hotel is half empty, and I understand there may have been a miscommunication but I will not pay an extra half day." I was polite and calm. And then it all went to heck. Melissa raised her voice, starting talking fast "ghetto talk" (excuse the expression, but that's what it was) and head bobbing indignantly, saying "I TOLD you you had ta be out by 12pm when you checked in and now you gettin' all mad cuz you late." I calmly said "I'm not mad, it's just a check out, but I'm not paying an extra half day. I'd like to speak to a manager." My colleague approached the desk when he heard her yelling. He asked "What's the problem?" and she said "Your friend is mad." I said "I'm not mad, I asked for a manager." She said "You ARE mad and I AM the manager." I said "so nobody else is here to resolve this?" ...she said no, and I said ok I'll take your name, and she said "Go Ahead" (with more indignant head bobbing). My colleague informed Melissa that he had done business with the hotel owners and didn't believe that she was withholding their standard of service. She said "I don't care". In the end, she turned to HIM, my colleague, as we walked out the door and said "I'm not gonna charge her the extra fee." After all that verbal abuse, no management to report it to, and ruining my pre-Christmas weekend, it was all just a power play. How petty and immature, which is what happens when you leave a 20-something year old to run an entire hotel on her own. I see others have had similar issues at this establishment. I expect the abuse of power and improper conduct will continue.... And so the hotel will stay at 50% occupancy until the owners figure out what's going on and hire new staff.

Yelp
I'm not really sure what all the other reviews are complaining about -- my stay at New Haven Hotel was perfectly pleasant and very comfortable. The hotel is centrally located in downtown New Haven, has parking directly across the street in a locked and clean garage, and has really lovely rooms. Sure, they've skipped the mini bar and the views aren't exactly splendid, but this is New Haven, people -- not Paris. Our room was perfect -- very clean, very tidy and very comfortable. The bed was like a cloud, dressed in crisp white linens, including a duvet rather than a bedspread which always bumps my opinion up a notch. The bathroom was clean and had plenty of fresh, fluffy towels as well as a nice line of toiletries. You can call the front desk and request additional toiletries if you need them, be it floss, toothpaste or other common items. While the coffee service was lacking and the staff didn't exactly wow me, I have very little in the way of complaints about this hotel. Sure, it's not as splendid as the Omni nearby, but for a simple boutique hotel it was great for an overnight stay.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. This place has an incompetent staff. They knew that the NFL network did not work in the rooms, yet neglected to fix the problem. I called the front desk tonight, and they sent an "engineer" up to fix the problem. He said he couldn't but that tomorrow the problem could be fixed, so he's incompetent. When I called the front desk, they confirmed that I can watch the game in the lobby tonight, just not in my room. Yeah, right, I want to spend three hours in the lobby.... To add to the dissatisfaction, their restaurant has the worst breakfast, you don't even want to dare to come close to their lunch, and they are not even open for dinner. No room service either. That's just pathetic!

Yelp
BEWARE - Sneaky parking charges. We stayed here for one night in December 2015. When we checked in, we were told to park in the garage across the street (Not that it would cost us 20.00 to do so, and that there were in fact free parking spots on the street next to the hotel). We were told that if we kept our car in the lot after we checked out, we would be charged $4.00 per hour after noon. On check out, we rushed out without having time to look at our bill - and when we got home, realized we had been charged 20.00 for parking WITHOUT anyone ever having told us that we were going to be charged! Also, when we went to the garage afterward to exit, we were charged an ADDITIONAL 16.00 (Four hours x 4.00 = 16.00, they were up front about this), but the garage check-out person informed us could have been avoided if we had kept our hotel key!! The hotel staff didn't tell us we could avoid it if we had kept our hotel key (we had given it back on hotel check out). SO we ended up paying a total of 36.00 in parking for a 24-hour stay! I was furious. This hotel needs to be more explicit about the fact that a guest with a 24 hour stay can be charged almost 40.00 for parking. When we called for a refund, they said they would only refund us the 20.00. I would not stay here again, and I will be more careful about asking about how much parking costs at hotels in the future.

Yelp
Front desk staff is awful. Parking is $23 per night. However, the room we stayed in was clean and the beds comfortable. The main elevator was broken when we stayed and apparently this is a common occurrence at this hotel. The backup service elevator is tiny, down a long hallway and there are steps leading up to it, so you can't wheel your luggage on a cart into the elevator if you have a lot of bags. You have to carry it. The front desk staff member didn't tell us this upon check in, only that the main elevator was broken and it would maybe be fixed the next day. So I had to abandon the cart before reaching the service elevator, and ended up just carrying the bags up the stairs. The main elevator was fixed the next day, but damn was it a sketchy ride. Never again. Our check in process was weirdly disjointed, as the front desk staff member kept walking away mid conversation to talk to another employee without excusing himself. This lack of communication seemed to be common among the staff. When my wife and I checked out of the hotel, the front desk staff member (a different person than the one who checked us in) didn't bother asking us how our stay was or saying anything, really. The beds are comfortable and the room was clean and the shower was fine. The location is convenient, as well. I understand that can be enough positives, especially on a budget. But I was glad to get out of this hotel after one night, and I LOVE hotels-- having literally lived in hotel rooms for four months in my more nomadic years. A clean place to rest your head is great. But a hotel-- especially a supposedly posh hotel in New Haven-- is about hospitality, not just a bed. Stay at the New Haven Hotel, and you will be treated by their staff like you don't matter. That's like going to a restaurant that serves lousy food. Don't do it. You deserve better.

Yelp
We booked the New Haven Hotel for our wedding and would not recommend it to anyone else. Our guests were billed amounts higher than we were quoted in our meeting. Rooms were billed to the wrong individuals when we tried to pay for guest rooms. Elevators did not work Worst of all, the hotel staff walked into our room at 5am on our wedding night.

Yelp
Excellent hotel. Parking is $23 a night and it's right across the street. The only downfall I have is the hot water in the shower isn't very good, not sure if it's just the room I was in, but it should be fixed. The front desk was helpful and speedy at check-in. They will give you a map of the area as well. Wi-Fi is Free.

Yelp
Nice hotel. Good sized rooms. Everything is well decorated and comfortable. Prices are not too bad. We spent two nights here back in March and had a really nice time in New Haven. The biggest general negative to this hotel has to be the location. It is not in a terrible location, but you don't want to spend too much time outside after dark. The reason I'm dropping it from a 4-star to 3 is because our toilet continued to clog and one night we had a repair guy in our room at 1 am when it was about to overflow. Not something I wanted to be worrying about in the middle of the night on a trip that was meant to be relaxing. Would still stay here again if I was in town.

Yelp
Five stars! Thanks to Carmen for all her help. Not too far from Elm City's excellent restaurants & music venues plus it's walking distance from the train station.

Yelp
I seem to be the only Yelper who has stayed here post renovation, so I feel pretty lucky. Like others before me, this was an incredibly close option to Yale Medical and the walk there could not have been easier. I will start with the cons because they are generally the things that can keep you from choosing a hotel. Cons: 1.) The restaurant only serves breakfast. After driving down from Boston, I had been fantasizing about a fabulous room service dinner in my room all day. I had to make it happen another way, which was a little frustrating. 2.) Certain rooms along the alleyway have the unfortunate luck to be situated so that the very loud music from a local bar/club/restaurant can be heard. Loudly. Did I mention it was loud? Very loud. Thumping bass. Until about 2am. That kind of blew. Good thing I had NyQuill and earplugs. 3.) Parking is $15 which seems a little steep, but hey, it is a downtown location. 4.) The neighborhood is slightly sketchy at night, so be cautious. Ok, now for the good stuff: 1.) The breakfast is actually pretty damn good. It consists of either a breakfast buffet or a continental breakfast. The buffet has eggs, rosemary potatoes, pancakes, french toast, 4 different kinds of toast (white, wheat, sourdough, and something else unrecognizable), 2 kinds of bagels, cereal, milk, yogurt, and juice. The price tag is $12.99 and they will even let you pile up a plate and take it back to your room if you are in a crazy hurry like I was. 2.) It is a block away from a 24 hour Walgreens. Awesome. 3.) Free wireless in your room; just pick up a wireless code at the front desk. 4.) The in room coffee maker works, and works well, and they provide Starbucks coffee for you. There is also coffee and to-go cups in the lobby in the morning. 5.) Very kind and friendly staff despite my perpetual crankiness due to hunger. They really were stellar and wonderful every time I talked to them. They provided me with restaurant lists and menus from take out and delivery places nearby, which made me very happy. 6.) The beds are AWESOME. Huge, super fluffy, comfy, wonderful sheets. 7.) The bathrooms are also amazing. Great in-house bath products (I especially appreciated the tiny bottle of Purel provided), great water pressure in an obviously fully renovated shower, and nice hot water. This is a HUGE one in a hotel; if the shower sucks, you will be miserable for your entire stay. Instead, I didn't want to leave. I am crossing my fingers that I will have the option to call New Haven home some day. If I do, everyone who comes to visit me will stay here.....if only so that I can visit them and take a shower. And if I don't, well....I may come back to visit just for the free Purel.

Yelp
I stayed here with my husband, 11 yr old son and his friend. We were in were in town for one night (hockey trip) So glad we decided to book a night at this lovely boutique hotel! Everything was perfect from the check-in, lobby, hotel amenities, room and overall hotel ambiance. The hotel is ideally located to a cool retro movie theater, several restaurants, Yale University and shopping. Another big PLUS was the free Wi-F at the hotel. It was so easy to connect. The hotel appeared to have underwent a recent facelift and everything was nicely updated. Our room had a mini fridge, big flat screen TV, pull out sofa, large comfortable king sized bed and a great bathroom and shower. No nighttime disturbances. Overall an excellent stay.
