Always my favorite Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam. All the dishes were exceptionally delicious and fast-delivered. However, the waiting line is quite long, you can expect more than 30 minutes, and inside there are cramped and crowded seats, makes sense because the food is worth it. If you do not mind waiting and sitting very close to other tables, there are no reasons why you shouldn't visit them. Some of my dish recommendation are: Filled Eggplant with Fish, Roasted Duck, Soya Chicken. For vegetarians, go for the Salt & Pepper Tofu with Pine Nuts. Prices are reasonable, portions are quite big, so one dish per person is enough.

Very good experience, turned up without reservation at 6.30pm but didn’t wait too long and got a table downstairs for 7 of us. Prompt service, authentic and delicious food, cosy ambience. Super awesome chili oil! Portions are big and generous. Definitely would return if in Amsterdam.

New King in Amsterdam serves top quality Chinese food, and the flavors definitely make it worth a visit. The place is extremely popular, so expect a wait time of around 25 minutes since they don’t take reservations only walk-ins. Once inside, it’s quite packed, with tables placed very close to each other, so don’t expect much personal space. However, the service is efficient, and the food makes up for it. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality justifies it. Overall, if you don’t mind the crowds and tight seating, it’s a great spot for authentic Chinese cuisine in Amsterdam!

To complete my visit in Amsterdam, I tried The New King because I was craving wonton noodles—and it did not disappoint! I ordered the wonton noodles with rice noodles, and the portion was very generous. We also had the siu mai, which was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Even the chili paste stood out—rich, spicy, and full of depth. Honestly, one of the best wonton noodle dishes I’ve had in Amsterdam. A must-try if you’re in the city!

The roast duck is delicious, and you can choose it with or without bones. The sweet and sour pork is tasty, but the char siu and crispy pork are just okay. The restaurant is small, but the food arrives quickly.

I first ate at New King 25 years ago and recently returned for a second bite … it was as good as before, if not better. For authentic Hong Kong Chinese food, you wouldn’t be disappointed. The noodle soup came with a delectable broth, chewy noodles and giant shrimp dumplings; the side of beef stew was just as delicious, making for a very satisfying meal. For just Eur5 more, I would probably go for the large portion next time. The mixed seafood and meat clay pot stew was generous and tasty. I enjoyed the fact that New King was generous with the steamed rice instead of nickle and diming clients like some other restaurants do. We enjoyed New King and will always return.

Google
I’ve been to New King twice before and found the food good. I was there again for a third time and it will be my last. The thick noodles were clumpy, the rice was dry, and the service was abrupt. The ambience was too dark, so that the menu was difficult to read. There was a poster with a link to the Instagram account, promising that I would profit and be given the deal of the day— so I followed the instructions and when I asked the staff, I was told that it was only for takeaway meals and those eating in could not profit from it. The pricing is too high for the food that I received and the restaurants next door or two doors down are half the price and just as good.

Google
Generally, it worths trying. Much better than Chinese restaurant i tried in Berlin. I ordered three dishes including gemeng mix meat, shrimp wonton soup and wonton mixed goulash noodles. The meal is a bit too much for 2 ppl but fit for 3. Those are all good and delicious. Goulash is perfect. Only duck is dry. Next time i will order pork only. Shrimp wonton must try. The service is 10/10. Tourist friendly restaurant.

Yelp
Small crowded restaurant in the busy area not to far from the Amsterdam Central Station. They don't take reservations. The food is tasty and comes out fast and hot. The servers are friendly and helpful. It would be nice if they would upgrade the restrooms. Only one for the whole restaurant so far I know. Each time I'm in Amsterdam it's a must place to come eat. Definitely recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Last friday, februari 7th, we orderd take away €24. We hoped to enjoy it during the nightshift. The food was not propperly prepaired, raw....We could not eat it without risking foodpoisning. They told us that they would compensate but no.....

Yelp
So while in Amsterdam I found this place on Yelp and immediately became obsessed! This place is very busy and operates on a first come first serve bases, thankfully I was traveling alone so my wait was very minimal. The first time I visited I had the duck buns and Shrimps Dumpling Soup Small. The duck buns are good but I wont necessarily run back for but the shrimp dumpling soup is delicious! Simple, filling and yummy! After traveling to London I had 2 more days in Amsterdam and ran back to this place for more soup considering how cold it was and how much I loved the dumpling soup. Second time around I went a little crazy and ordered way toooo much food I should have only gotten the soup. The Fried Shrimps Dumpling Soup again delicious and Sui Kau Small delicious!

Yelp
Food was filling, delicious, and hot. Portion sizes are good, though a little pricier than the average location. Staff are nice. The lighting is pleasantly low, though the interior is a little cramped.

Yelp
Service was good, friendly and efficient. Corn chowder soup with crab lacked flavor. Mixed meat plate with duck, BBQ Pork and crispy skin pork we also bland. The duck was on the dry side and the biggest disappointment was the bland BBQ Pork you expect at a Chinese restaurant. Prices also seem a bit high.

Yelp
Very busy part of town even in the later hours of the evening. Waited about 20 minutes at 8pm on a Saturday but there is a pub near by to kill time with a beer. Crowded and all tables full, but spacious. Ordered the fat noodles with crispy pork and it was enough for 2. Noodles were very chewy and fresh and pork was flavorful and crispy; lots of fat but that's what gives it the flavor! Be wary if you ask for chili oil...it is very different than what I'm used to in the states. Bigger punch and more potent and spicy

Yelp
As a solo travler I am always looking for great solo resturants. New King is a good solo dinning spot. Located in the heart of Chinatown with a big window display, New King is easy to find. The right door to enter however, not so much. There are 2 doors were you can enter the restaurant but the actual front door is up a couple narrow stairs. Once inside they may seat you in the up stairs dinning area or downstairs dinning area. I went in the wrong door downstairs (eek!) but they were nice and sat me immediately. At prime lunch time (12:30pm) it was not very busy. While the space is small you don't feel over crowded which can sometimes happen when ask for a table for one. The menu is large and they have pictures of all of dishes, which is helpful, albeit sometimes difficult to see due to size. I started the small wonton soup (€7.50) which was a solid choice. 4 large succulent pork wontons in a light clear broth. I would have been full from this but I had to try a noodle dish. I opted for the flat noodles (€15.00). With the noodles you can choose 1 protein or 3 for an extra €.50. The protein options are: roasted duck, crispy pork, bbq pork, and chicken. I went all in with the 3 most popular proteins: roasted duck, crispy pork, bbq pork. This is definitely large enough to share. They give you a healthy portion of each protein plus the noodles underneath. Be careful with the duck, there are tiny bones that are not easily spotted. The crispy pork had a perfect crispy skin that added a great texture to the heaviness of the dish, and the bbq pork had that classic Chinese bbq pork sweetness, complete with the hint of pink-ish/red coloring to the skin. I am a big fan chili oil but beware of the chili oil they give you. A little goes a LONG way. I underestimated its power and ended up with tears running down my cheeks. Still yummy though! All in all this is a solid place to eat if you are walking around Chinatown and have a craving for classic Chinese flavors.

Yelp
This is a very busy place which made us give it a try. We figured it must be good. Unfortunately, not so much. The staff was friendly but food WAY overpriced. I ordered a stir fried chicken with veggies. €20. I was told it wasn't breaded. Guess what, it was a dry plate of fried breaded thin white breast meat with onion and very HOT peppers. I found this out because a tiny piece of pepper was on my piece of chicken and I could hardly contain myself. Had to run to the bathroom to get some water. They only serve bottled. Anyway, a very boring dish otherwise. My boyfriend got the 3 meats. €28. Duck, pork and beef. The beef was good but both pork and duck were very dry. I guess that's why they have a side of a semi sweet sauce to dip in. Just a heads up for anyone looking for Chinese. I guess that should have been a clue: good Chinese food in the Netherlands? Hmmmm Definable not as good as China Town in NY or LA

Yelp
OVERALL: decent restaurant that's definitely overpriced for what you get. Good location and a lot of seating. Service is mediocre. I came here during a solo trip and ordered the wonton soup (large). I asked for a tap water and they said they didn't serve tap water - which is fine I guess, but most places would give you water if you asked. The wontons were good, but I asked if they contained shrimp and they told me incorrectly that it was shrimp-free and only pork. Unfortunately I did taste shrimp and saw chunks of shrimp in the wontons - not a huge problem for me, since I just don't like the taste, but it could be bad for people with severe allergies. Broth was salty and the vegetables they gave you were very mediocre.

Yelp
This was a surprising but welcome find! Hearing and reading good things about New King prompted a telephone call from our hotel concierge to request a dinner reservation for us, which was bluntly refused, with the admonition "first come, first served." When Diane and I arrived to take our chances on being seated the next day, I quickly understood the reason for the "no reservations" policy. The restaurant simply did not need to reserve seating to acquire customers. The restaurant was filled with diners and packed with other individuals seeking admission. Fortunately for us, we scored a table for two in close proximity to other diners after only a five-minute wait. While there wasn't much elbow room between tables, the mood of diners seated around us was happy, friendly, and upbeat. Great cooking can generate such effects. Sensing a special dining experience after perusing the menu, we ordered expansively, beginning with a small bowl of Sui Kau Soup (Shrimps Dumpling Soup) that was not so small. And what succulent dumplings they were floating in a very pleasing broth! Hot and juicy! Our three appetizers were also well executed and quite tasty: crunchy Vegetable Spring Rolls; Fried Shrimp Pancakes; and Fried Shrimps--all washed down with hot Chinese Tea that appeared to be Green Tea, and four bottles of still water. For entrees, Spiced Sizzling Beef with Green Onions, White Onions, and Red and Green Bell Peppers featured scallops of tender medium-rare Filet, while Beef in Oyster Sauce was also tender and saucy. Portions were large, and service attentive and fine. Ordered items were uniformly outstanding, with steaming delicious dishes timely served in an authentic Chinese restaurant situated within a Western European capital.

Yelp
Since I was in Amsterdam, I thought I'd compare Chinese food here to the states. They're advertised as Mandarin Cuisine. A friend and I went here during lunch hour, and there was hardly a crowd when we first arrived. The restaurant tables filled up before we finished lunch. We started with a pot of hot tea. I'm guessing that they don't serve water at some places? The server brought me sparkling water and automatically charged me for it. A bit annoying right there. We ordered 2 dishes to share. The Kip In Zoetsure Saus (Orange Chicken?) and the Mihoen Singapore (Singaporean Style Noodles). This chicken came with a side of rice. The Kip was battered chicken stir fried with pineapple, onions, bell peppers, and cooked in sweet sauce. I particularly liked the noodles. It was stir fried with different vegetables and shrimp. Tastes a bit like curry. This was just the right amount of food for 2 people. It must be a thing here, but I noticed that service wasn't great. They never came back to check on us after food was brought to the table. I was also irritated by the fact that they asked me to tip with cash, because I had paid with my AmEx card. Most places don't expect a tip, but they knew I was American and asked for it. Not surprising at all with a Chinese Restaurant.

Yelp
After going weeks without having good Asian food, I was going insane. I could only eat pastries and pasta for so long. Then I come to Amsterdam and I was saved by New King. To start off the service was fast and there was no wait. I don't recall what I exactly ordered, but it was a combination plate with duck, soy sauce chicken, bbq pork, and some form of a base layer (white rice, fried rice, stir fried noodles, etc...). I got the stir fried noodles. The first bite could've made me cry on everything that I love. The duck and the chicken were so tender and so well made. The bbq pork was also good, but not the best that I've ever had. I would 100000% recommend this place.

Yelp
The black pepper beef dish was very good. We also had prawns with head on which was good. The Bok Choy vegetable with garlic was a little salty but well cooked. We had a fried shrimp dumpling appetizer which was tasty plus the dumplings appetizer which was ok. The only dish which wasn't good was a pork spare rib dish which was overcooked and dry.
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered the morning glory (water spinach), salt, pepper, spare ribs, and wonton soup. It was all delicious. I really enjoyed the wonton soup. If you like spicy add a very, very very small amount of the chili oil. It's definitely bring something to the party!

Yelp
Very good but more like Chinese food than Thai cuisine service was pretty good but there was a wait to get in. Restaurant was a little cramped per US standards

Yelp
Cozy and warm, with the best won ton soup I've ever had. Flavorful and plump. The roast duck was to die for!! Roast pepper oil is tasty but add a little at a time. Heat flashes!!

Yelp
Some of the best Chinese food the we have had anywhere, including China, Hong Kong, SF, etc. The sample platter should not be missed.

Yelp
While the food here is decent, I find the price to be high and service was terrible. Specifically we were told multiple times by a waitress that tip was not included and suggested that we tip in cash. I believe she's at least repeated that six times in a short 60 seconds. Having done research on the Netherlands and knowing in advance that tip is not part of the culture here, it made me extremely uncomfortable to have felt being coerced into tipping. Likewise, prior to paying for our food, she told us we need to go to the counter if paying in credit card. We said okay and she urged us to follow her, again multiple times, even though I had asked to use the restroom prior to leaving. At the end of the day, we felt forced to leave in a short period of time due to pressure coming from the rudeness. Now if you're reading for the food - most of the food I found to be pricey. However, this is coming from New York and not familiar with the pricing here. They did have a make your own soup noodle or make your own rice bowl option that I found to be the most cost effective. Overall, the food was tasty. I ordered the large with roasted duck, soy chicken, and wanton. To my surprise, wanton tasted the best. They were large wantons with mushroom and pork inside. The soy chicken was good too, albeit the taste was less noticeable being in soup. The roasted duck however was too dry and I would not suggest it. The food here was in fact okay, but the service was just very uncomfortable (and I only mentioned the tabling part of it, the seating part of it was just as bad). At the end of the day, if you're just here for eat and go and service would not affect your meal, then this could be it. Unfortunately, it was just not the right place for me during a trip.

Yelp
Chinatown next to red light district...maybe Chinese food is aphrodisiac. Hot and sour soup had duck meat, ok flavor. My husband had crispy pork over fried rice, the pork skin was crispy and portion was big. The napa cabbage side was completely unnecessary for this meaty greasy meal option:) I had Peking duck over wide fried noodles, duck was juicy but salty...more roast duck than authentic Peking duck, my husband suspect they injected the duck with saline to plump up the duck meat. I enjoyed the noodles. We also had eggplant with tofu pot vegetarian dish, but lack flavor or salt. Service was extremely friendly. (Written by husband)

Yelp
Wandering through Chinatown and stumbled upon a place featured in "Where Chefs Eat", a book that sits upon my kitchen shelf that I failed to look at before embarking on my journey. We started with the mixed dim sum, which is a feast. You get little shu mai and crystal shrimp dumplings, shrimp toast coated in delicious sesame seeds, some kind of meat on stick that I can't quite place but definitely enjoyed, two types of fried wontons - shrimp and pork, and shrimp spring rolls. The friend things are pretty greasy but after a few drinks I appreciated that. We also got the mixed meat platter, which features two types of pork and Peking Duck plus and also ordered the eggplant in black bean sauce to have some kind of vegetable. The eggplant was incredible. Perfectly cooked and great texture. The sauce was savory but not overly salty. It also had chunks of tofu but I didn't love them - soft and bland. I ended up eating the eggplant and leaving the tofu behind. The meats were only okay. I didn't care for the duck - served only at room temperature and too greasy. The porks were good and served hot. I preferred the crispy pork, which had an almost Katsu like breading. It was a solid choice and if I lived here, I think I'd return to try more of the menu (and have that delicious eggplant again). P.S. the portions are huge so definitely order with sharing in mind.

Yelp
Roast duck was very lean which is what you want because you're eating less fat from the crispy skin. Meat not very flavorful but can't really ask for hk quality in red light district. Bbq pork was really on point. Tender and sweet with not too much food coloring. Should mention that the roast duck and bbq pork rice came with this small bowl of sauce. Had no idea what to do with it. Did not resemble soy sauce to dip with roast duck. Kinda thick consistency so not a soup. I guess it's oyster sauce for drizzling it over rice and the meats.

Yelp
Wow really good authentic Chinese food right smack in the middle of Amsterdam! Thank goodness the thai place up the street was packed or we would have never found this gem. We got there during prime dinner time and were seated right away. Lucky us! We ordered a bunch of items but what enjoyed the most was their wonton soup. The wontons were huge and filled with shrimp and meat. Delicious broth. I would skip the chow fun and bbq pork and the crispy duck. Fast service and good service. Highly recommend this place. Also you know it's good when there are tons of Chinese people eating right along side you.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has amazing soups! Any complaints about slow service need to get in line with the more relaxed way the service is provided in Amsterdam. I like that they don't hover over me and look to push me out after I take my last bite. Food was very flavorful and really hot the spot

Yelp
Sea Palace in Amsterdam? That's for tourists! (Okay, I was a tourist). But if you're looking for good Chinese cuisine, you have to go into Chinatown. And that, we did. There was a long line and fans of this restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. Looking at the menu, the prices were a bit on the expensive end. Being away from home for so long, I wanted some comfort food. For me, that was crispy roast pork and roast duck over rice. - Roasted crispy pork - the skin was crispy. The meat was soft. The dipping sauce was slathered on my rice. This was good. Almost like a suckling pig. - Roast duck - so fatty, so good. The skin was juicy and crispy. The meat was soft and juicy. They can really cook a good roast duck. FYI for tourists: They speak Dutch, English, Mandarin, and Cantonese! ------------------------------------------------------ Sea Palace in Amsterdam? - Babi Pangang - gebrande knapperig varkensvlees. De huid was knapperig. Het vlees was zacht. De dipsaus was slathered op mijn rijst. Dat was goed. Bijna als een speenvarken. - Geroosterd eend - zo vet, zo goed. De huid was sappig en knapperig. Het vlees was zacht en sappig. Ze kan echt koken een goed geroosterde eend. Ter informatie voor toeristen: Ze spreken Nederlands, Engels, Mandarijn en Kantonees!

Yelp
Personally I felt the restaurant is overpriced and taste mediocre at best. I do like the wonton dumplings as you quite easily tell they are fresh and meaty. However, the soup was too salty along with rest of the dishes. The vegetable and meat dishes were way too oily for our taste. The sauces from rest of our dishes also taste quite similar, perhaps this is to expedite cooking time. This is unacceptable especially given how steep the price is.

Yelp
Solid Chinese food when you're looking for a little food diversity in Europe. The restaurant is in this tiny strip of "china town" near the red light district. There's a lot of affordable food. I enjoyed the noodle soups, which you can choose 2-3 toppings for. The food isn't too salty or greasy which is nice. Service is good.

Yelp
Decided to go for a walk around the Red Light District and stumbled into China Town and went to New King for dinner. This place is popular! It was really busy and had a line out the door! Even with a line they were able to seat us pretty fast! I ordered several items that I knew I would love! I had the Wonton Soup and I kid you not it was the best wonton soup I have ever had. It had huge dumplings in it and it had like 5 dumplings in it. The dumplings were packed with pork and tasted amazing. This was some of the best dumplings I have ever had. I had trouble finishing it because it was so much. I also had egg rolls which were two, they were huge and tasted amazing. The main dish I had was noodles with crackling pork on it. The pork was okay but the noodles were great. It was a different type of noodle than I have had before. It was really good! I would for sure recommend this place. It had a great staff, great foods, and great area of town!

Yelp
I visited Amsterdam by red eye flight and my local friend took me here as I was still groggy mode and it was chilly outside. When I walked in, I knew this is a good place and tables were fully packed but as some other American said, service was not good at all. Two servers looked at me and my friend and did not say anything then they escorted us before the man who was ahead of us (he moved to upstairs later) When we ordered noodle soup with duck and hot and sour peking soup, waitress became strange as if she expected me to order something. What kind of waiter(ess) can think one person can have 2 soups and expect the other person at the table order something else??? Then my friend's noodle soup came out first then when she brought my hot and sour peking soup, she placed this one to my friend's table. I was speechless as my side was not that far or unreachable from her at all. Then she charged 2 hot tea pots and even forgot to bring back to my table when I asked her the tab. I have no idea why she reacted in this way but maybe she thought I'm asian American and not her favorite thing. When she denied to come to my table at first, I thought she would be back after a few mins but she was all the way smiling and friendly mode to other tables to take orders and bring the tabs for others. I had to come to cashier and was asked to come up to 2nd floor to pay my AMEX card. It was such a blunt and annoying way how she treated me and I still have no idea why she did it as food was great. Rich flavor and very soothing for walking in cold chilly weather. Hope she will get this message and be a better person.

Yelp
Went in before noon. Plenty of tables available. Waitress are attentive. Food came quickly. Sizzling hot as the way I like. Enjoyed my meal thoroughly. Ordered two dishes with rice for two: Mixed meat Tofu pot (typical Cantonese food, not too tasty); eggplant filled with fish (excellent taste with a touch of chilli kick). This is a restaurant offers authentic Chinese food. Will go back again. 推荐。正宗中国餐。茄酿(鱼)非常好吃

Yelp
Very nice Chinese food at this place. We had the roast duck, salt and pepper squid, "mabo tofu", fried wontons, fried rice and corn and crab soup for starters. All very nice and delicious. Fast service despite of very busy place. This place is one of Chinese restaurants at the same neighborhood.

Yelp
I was a regular here for years and last night I had one of the worst service experiences of my life in the New King. So much that I refused to pay a bill for the first time in my life and told the manager, who I've had a good rapport with for about 8 years, that I wouldn't be returning, shook his hand and said a sad goodbye. Let's be clear, I've been to this restaurant more than 100 times. The food is great. I've recommended it endlessly to tourists and friends alike. The manager was always nice and professional but the servers have become more and more rude as this place has gotten more popular and they clearly do not care in any way about anything other than taking your order and getting you to the bill. Last night after we ate and I asked a waitress to be careful about our bag as she almost sat on it, she literally hit me in the arm with a fist and pretended it was an accident in passing. As someone who has owned restaurants I can personally and professionally call this waitstaff a disgrace. Goodbye New King...

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. Whenever we go to Amsterdam, we ALWAYS go here for lunch/dinner. This place serves authentic Chinese food. Everything that we have ordered is usually pretty good. Their bbq pork is alright, but their duck is a lot better. I would recommend the singapore style noodles, beef and veggies, choi sum (watercress) and a bbq meat platter. Compared to other places nearby, I would pick this place if I wanted a quality Chinese meal. But be prepared to pay a bit more. Their prices keep on going up every year.

Yelp
This was listed as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Amsterdam and it didn't disappoint. Multi-level restaurant was crowded but cozy. Massive selection on the menu. We started with the steamed dim sum which was delicious. Both the mango chicken and sweet and sour chicken were great. More food than we could finish. Highly recommend if you're in Amsterdam.

Yelp
Can't ask for more to find decent Chinese meal in Europe. Glad they have cut Chili padi but at extra charge. Awesome to have this hot soupy noodle in winter.

Yelp
We came here on a Friday night while visiting with friends in Amsterdam. One of them was a local and said this was his favorite restaurant in the city. We had to wait but only for 10 minutes or so and it was PACKED on all three floors. There were 4 of us and I let him order his favorite dishes. He ordered 2 large dumpling soups which had both shrimp and meat dumplings as well as ramen noodles. This was AWESOME, we really enjoyed the soup and it had great flavor. The noodles had a wonderful consistency that was perfect. We had a large order of the sweet and sour prawns as well as the plate of mixed barbecued meats. I really liked both these dishes too and the prawns were a good size. Clearly this place gets a lot of local traffic because it was slammed with people and the food came out tremendously quickly. I would recommend New King if you're in the mood for some good Chinese while visiting Amsterdam!

Yelp
The food arrived quickly and the size of the wontons and "sui kau" dumplings were so much bigger than we expected! The wontons were large, chock full of plump shrimp, and tasty! The skin of the wonton was thin too and the soup base was good. The "sui kau" dumplings were so meaty and chunky that it almost tasted like eating a sui mai dim sum in a wrapped wonton. It was extra filling because of that. I did like the wontons more though because of the fresh shrimp.

Yelp
I ate here two consecutive days Aug 4, and 5, 2016. I was traveling alone, and could only order one thing. My little hotel room did not have a fridge. I ordered stuffed eggplant one day and lamb chops in a clay pot another day. I saw the roast duck on every table, but I had no one to share with. Both were delicious, and a lot of food, I would order again. But the price is also on the high side. I was staying in a Chinese-owned hotel. When I asked what was their opinion about New King restaurant, they said "Oh, they serve white people's Chinese food" or some wording to suggest that the REAL Chinese did not eat there. Indeed most of the people eating there were white people, and in USA, the sign of a truly authentic REAL Chinese restaurant would be no white people eating there, only Asian faces. In Amsterdam Chinatown, there is a restaurant that has on it's window sign "Where the Chinese eat", but that is not New King Mandarin. I had someone take my picture of me, standing below those words, below the sign. I asked waitress where are the Chinese diners. She said there ARE Chinese, look downstairs (restaurant is on at least 3 levels). I looked downstairs, not that many Chinese, maybe 20% if even that. I sat next to a Dutch couple who were locals and said they ate there at least once a month and it was their favorite restaurant. They had duck on their table. They sure looked like they KNEW what to order. But the food was good! Service, so-so, they were rushed and harried and acted so, but they were not rude. I look at pictures of the duck and I sure wish I could go back here and eat the duck with "someone", but here I am back in Arizona USA (cowboy country, what do they know about REAL Chinese food and duck)?.

Yelp
Pretty standard restaurant in Chinatown. Price to quality ratio is a little off (high prices). Has all the greatest hits. Will get the job done, but would not go out of my way to eat here.

Yelp
1 start restaurant because the service. I made a mistake about the kind noodles that I order, so when I asked about it, instead explaining me in a normal way the noodles differences, she started yelling at me and the whole restaurant looking to our table. Also, when we finished eating, half dish of noodles and half dish of lamb left over so we asked for the doggy box, but they gave to us a bag with just the lamb, when we asked for the noodles, the waitress realized that the plate of noodles was at the bottom of a pile of dirty dishes (a colleague of her, threw it away), the girl took the plate and she offered us the food..., completely disgusting.... About the food, it was good but expensive. I didn't order the roasted duck because I saw in the next table that they don't serve it in the same way that true Chinese restaurants (with vegetables and a kind of pancakes)

Yelp
Really good Chinese for Amsterdam! If we were comparing it to NY Chinese I would not give it as high of a rating! The fried pork belly in the noodle soup was soup tasty but the actual broth wasn't too flavorful and just salty! The fried shrimp were some of the best I ever had!! And the shrimp dumplings were tasty but I've had better! All and all pretty good food and if you happen to make a stop by a "coffee shop" it will only make the food better!

Yelp
Nothing especial about this place. It is a nice place with good Chinese food. Service is typical Chinese. Pratical with no extras. Something like 1, 2 and 3. The menu actually shows that. If you are those with many questions you might be in trouble here. All sort of customers cone here locals, tourists, Chinese etc

Yelp
A beautiful day with a beautiful bowl of Sui Kau noodle soup. What could I say more? An indeed brilliant choice. The Sui Kau is a flavor bomb. When I bit one these Sui Kau, the sweetness of the soup and the shrimps overflowed in my mouth. It was tender yet chewy as a same time. Moreover, the clear, gentle looking soup yet it has a strong impact of flavor. Gosh!!Best sui kau noodle in downtown I guess. The place has authentic Chinese feelings, however the minus part is it a bit cramp. But well it's really a pure Chinese restaurant. The service is good however, they tend to ignore you sometime due to large amount of customers.

Yelp
Went here a second time since it was very cold today in Amsterdam. I have tried the soup this time, and yes if you need some great hot soup this is the place. We had duck and crispy pork soups with wide noodles, both amazing. Staff is friendly and food is fresh and authentic.

Yelp
I ... would have really liked this place if the service was better. But, the food is amazing and completely authentic so I know if I were to live in Amsterdam, I'd definitely be coming back to this place. I came in around 7pm on a Saturday and they were PACKED. There's one main entrance but there're three different levels to the restaurant and it was insane how filled they were. It seems like it might be a good idea to make a reservation here, though most people were able to get in even without one. My negative experience was that the waiter just kept blowing me off for other 2-people parties which was really annoying, but whatever. Food here is great and really cheap. I got a bowl of noodles for 6.50 and oh my goodness it was delicious--just like how my parents make it back at home. I had rice noodles with cha siu in the small bowl and was super full when I finished it. I also ordered a side of siu mai to satisfy my dim sum cravings and wasn't disappointed by that either. The menu is really extensive and honestly every dish looks promising and legit--none of that Chinese food cooked to European tastes crap, but real, authentic delicious Chinese food. Despite how filled the restaurant was, they're ridiculously efficient--it probably took more time for me to get the waiter's attention (~15 min...) then to wait for my food (10 min). I was in and out in under an hour with a very happy stomach. tldr; delicious authentic Chinese food right in the heart of China Town -- be wary of crowds though, so either make a reservation/come at an off hour, or just wait it out because it's definitely worth it

Yelp
very delicious, fairly quick service, very friendly staff. 4.5 stars. a bit weird heating (half of me was under a heater and very warm and the other half a bit freezing).

Yelp
This was one of the worst services i have dealt with. The waiters didnt look at you and was very rude, and it naturally took a long time for our food to come. I give credit to the chef, i have never tasted this good asian food, but the service was so bad that i left disgusted

Yelp
I live in California - but probably the best Chinese food I have ever had is here in Amsterdam of all places. The only downside is the 45 min to 1 hour wait. But this is typical of great restaurants in EU - the place is relatively small and cramped for us Americans. You have to try the duck, get the wanton soup - more wanton than soup and the eggplant.
