How to Plan a Ski Trip to Santa Fe

"A newly opened satellite gallery showcasing temporary exhibitions that span works from the 1970s through the 2000s with a focus on New Mexican artists, providing a contemporary complement to the city’s broader museum and gallery offerings in an up‑and‑coming arts district." - Annie Archer Annie Archer Annie Archer is the assistant social media editor at Travel + Leisure. 12 Best Things to Do in Santa Fe

"In the heart of the Railyard District, the new Vladem Contemporary Art Museum, is a key addition to what’s quickly being hailed as Santa Fe’s premiere arts district. Already home to the edgy SITE Santa FE, there are several local galleries and two film venues (one of which belongs to Game of Thrones scribe George R.R. Martin). Set in a renovated, steel industrial warehouse from the 1930s, the museum’s inaugural Shadow + Light exhibition (through April 28, 2024) looks at New Mexico’s famed light and features works by Florence Miller Pierce and Emil Bistrram; both original members of the 1938-founded Transcendental Painting Group. Also: New Mexican resident Judy Chicago will display two drawings and an augmented reality (AR) project. Outside, a breezeway houses Albuquerque-born Leo Villareal’s "Astral Array,” a permanent LED light (running 24/7) installation generating patterns that recall cloud formations and other far-out celestial wonders. A nod to Villareal’s work, the gift shop sells a small collection of table lamps, alongside unique glass, pottery and coffee table tomes." - Kate Donnelly

I enjoyed my visit to the museum very much. I particularly appreciated the colorful artwork, the spacious layout, and the wonderful lighting that enhanced the exhibits. The museum's structure felt airy and well-designed, providing an excellent backdrop for the displayed works. Additionally, I was impressed by the gift shop, which featured a diverse selection of high-quality items and attractive displays. Overall, my experience at the museum was truly memorable.

Excellently-curated collection of paintings, sculptures, and other art forms, tastefully and creatively displayed, often including historical notes for a deeper dive. Check out the Alphonse Mucha exhibition while it's still available!

I love a museum with an artist in residence. It's exciting to see how work can inspire others and what today's artists are focusing on. Although the artist wasn't there I was lucky enough to strike up conversation with one of the employees who filled me in on some of the pieces on display. I'm glad the ticket gets you into two museums. They also have nice views of the area.

Easy and quick to get through but also enough to look at if you wanna take it slow. Nice exhibition, could have one permanent exhibit downstairs and a temporary one upstairs but really experiencing one exhibit is fine as well.

Couldn’t visit due to museum being closed. There was no update on website regarding closure. Very disappointed with the lack of update. 🙁

Boy, when the placards for a donation outnumber the actual pieces of art in a museum, we in some trouble, Lucy. What's next, "The Sarah and Richard Rosenthal Light Switch?" Architecture was fun and interesting.

After visiting other museums in Santa Fe, this one was a bit disappointing... There are a few wings showcasing modern art. The mural by Gilbert Guzman was my favorite piece.

Yelp
A beautiful new museum in the Railway District. (Your ticket also includes entrance to The New Mexico museum of Contemporary Art in the downtown area.) A wonderful addition to the art scene in Santa Fe.

Yelp
This was the first time I have visited this museum. It has some great pieces of art. Would go back to check out what other exhibits they will be curating.

Yelp
Art is subjective. What one person considers art the next person may consider trash. Personally I am just not a huge fan of contemporary art. I find exhibitions of contemporary art to be difficult to tell apart from their real world counterparts. For example a contemporary art museum might have a blue toaster on display with a nearby plaque of a word salad describing it in a bunch of terms that say a lot but mean nothing. It may go on about toast representing freedom of the soul and the color blue of the toaster representing the myriad difficulties of the toasters transcendent experience in trying to discover its inner peace. It's a toaster, it's blue. Get over it. So aside from the subject matter, the low rating is also based on the limited amount of pieces to view. It is a very small museum in terms of collections, and I think we were through it in under an hour. They have a gift shop which was fun to walk through though.

Yelp
When you go to the New Mexico museum of contemporary art in the center of Santa Fe your ticket also provides entry to the Vladim galleries in the rail yard area. You should definitely go! In fact I'd suggest you go straight there to experience excellent, thought provoking art in a beautiful location (the central gallery is rather pedestrian in comparison).

Yelp
This new little museum is a very inspiring and refreshing take on art in Santa Fe. It is just what Santa Fe was missing! My companion was positively giddy with joy at the Shadow and Light exhibition. Don't miss the audio art outside the building on the second floor. We could hear it from Thomasita's and we wondered what it was. Ticking all of the senses box this is worth the price of admission which is $12 for adults. Very clean and modern facility with works from around the world.

Yelp
grand opening weekend was quite a show for the love of art in santa fe !i feel like we owe a big hand to so many locals for pulling this many year endeavor off!! looking forward to going back to study the space more when it's less crowded. i'm not a fair judge of contemporary art. the transcendentalists and modernism is more my vibe. they do have a stunner bisstram piece but the florence pierces they chose are underwhelming next to that. that said, the new space came out better than expected and there are some really nice pieces. the kusama fans will love that one. i'm glad they kept a copy of the old mural from the historic building in the entry. the galleries are large and it's easy enough to spread out. i can't really tell if you're allowed to sit on the "benches" or if they're actually tables? But I think they're gonna get some of the kinks worked out as this gets more established and past the opening crush.

Yelp
Great museum! A little on the smaller side, but I personally prefer smaller museums over large, overwhelming ones. A lot of great details and even the security guards are knowledgeable about the artwork. Don't miss the sound garden on the second floor!

Yelp
I hate this museum & it should never have been built. It towers over other buildings in the area and it completely blocks the view to the mountains from the Rail Yard. In one fell swoop it destroyed the ambiance and character in this part of town. The Architect & the City should have known better.
