New Moon Natural Foods

Fantastic local market and, without a doubt, the best selection of beers anywhere in Tahoe. They have beers here that you can’t hardly find anywhere else on the west coast. Like they have fresh Heady Topper shipped in directly from Vermont just chilling on their shelves?? Honestly kind of insane. The mix-and-match 4 / 6 packs is also a great way to try a wide variety of styles at a discount. The rest of the grocery store is great too - smallish but has everything you need.

There’s a deli in the back that has the best sandwiches, sushi, and salads! If you’re looking for a quick and healthy snack to grab before a trip to the lake this is my favorite spot! They also have benches outside to relax amongst the trees 💕

Best little market around. Healthy food, good grab n go house made lunch & takeout items (my favorite is sushi roll #1, the bake-at-home pizza dough, and the vegan tapioca coconut pudding). Also they have a great craft beer, wine, & non-alcoholic beverage selection. I pickup my Mountain Bounty CSA here every Thursday afternoon (on the left in photo), and fill in the rest of what I need in the store (they give away boxes in case you forget to bring your own bags). Staff are awesome, great vibe and very helpful. Favorite store on the West Shore.

New Moon has a wide selection of groceries from fresh organic produce, sprouted nuts/seeds, vegan desserts like cookies/ice cream, fresh ground nut butter, and more. Like others have written, a bit more expensive but that's for supporting local businesses and I'm all for it. Reason for the 4 star: uncommon kitchen uses preservatives like sodium metabisulfite and citric acid in nearly all the refrigerated food that they prepare, why?! If it's prepared fresh daily, it should just be whole ingredients. Was heart broken! Love the shop's energy and selection (aside from those pre-packed preservative meals - hope that changes!)

What a wonderful place to shop. The employees are very friendly and helpful. All the produce looks and taste delicious. There are picnic tables off to one side of the building to sit, eat and visit with nice umbrellas too. The store is clean and items are easy to find. Forgot photos, next time. I will be returning!!

Wow! Even Better than last time I was in. This Grocery Store is the best in Tahoe City. They recently expanded the produce and beer section and now have the whole downstairs of the building! Great selection now always had amazing quality. Not to mention Uncommon Kitchen the midweek only locals secret dining place. Shhh.

The best organic brands, high quality produce, just great all-around selection for those looking to purchase high quality ingredients and health foods without the insane city price tags. Awesome gluten free options too! Love that they carry the Siete brand specifically. Great staff too!

So happy this place exists. Have been going for decades. I don't live in Tahoe, but new moon has always been a staple when I visit

We love New Moon as does our community. Excellent selection for a small market. Great produce and friendly staff. It also "contains" the Stony Ridge Uncommon Kitchen, an exceptional "international deli" with fresh, wholesome lunches to eat in or take out. Always a favorite.

Nice variety of things from food to health stuff. For any of you SC locs it kinda reminds me of a mini New Leaf grocery

Good small locally owned natural and organic market in Tahoe City. It has more stuff than you expect. New Moon has been here a long time. Many good things to find. They have everything from beer to produce to vitamins. It looks small upon entering. Looking around inside it doesn't seem like they could fit much in here. There's actually a pretty big selection. All kinds of diet needs have products available. There's gluten free, vegan, and many more. Has some ready to eat meals in the cafe. There's also some grab and go items. Has another location in Truckee you should visit if that's closer. If you're around here check this one out. The prices are fairly good on most things.

My daughter was stung by a bee & we were referred to come here for specific medicine. I couldn't find it, so I waited in line to ask cashier 1 where it was. She didn't know, and said to ask cashier 2 so she can check out other people. I responded, "Will you please ask her?Because I don't want to wait in line a second time & she'll just answer you. My daughter is crying in the car." Her response was just "Uhmm" and she started checking out another person. So I waited in a second line, asked cashier 2 on my own & grab the exact items with her and am ready to check out, walking back with her, but then she helps someone else who walked up to the counter. So I assess, both people checking out have the same amount of stuff. I wait in line for a THIRD TIME, and cashier 1 has the audacity to ask "Did you find everything okay?" My answer was very plainly, "No." Idk what your training is for people to work at this store, but this was very upsetting & y'all need to fix your customer service.

Just stopped by your Tahoe City location with my 87 year old father & local resident. I am visiting from San Diego. Very impressed with your inventory both food and supplement wise! But mostly impressed by your customer service and kindness toward him. Regretfully I didn't catch the cashiers name but she was so patient and warm. Honestly a lot of organic shops can have rude or arrogant staff. This was not the case with New Moon! Keep up the good work!

Sandwiches are delicious, excellent quality and staff in the deli area is super helpful & friendly. Will return next time in town.

I would give them more stars if I could and yet selfishly I want to keep this place a secret. One of the few great places to shop for a plethora of ORGANIC things in Tahoe. Its a small grocery store with great produce, cheese varieties (great charcuterie board items), vitamins, body creams, organic kid treats and even some local Tahoe crystals (not always in stock). We always stock up on supplies here and I've convinced my family to stop going to Albertsons/Savemart up the street. Per a negative review below: I've always seen the employees wearing masks when required by local ordinance.

My vegan boyfriend and I make it a point to stop in and out of north Tahoe. We love this store and deli. A throwback to original health food stores in feel but modernized enough to be fresh, clean and well stocked. Uncommon Kitchen makes great healthy sandwiches and salads. We LOVED the Lentil Salad and Potatoes Madras. And whoever makes the Garlic Hummus in the to-go case by the registers, oh my! Creamy, smooth with plenty of olive oil for a nice feel wins with us. How is it possible to find so many amazing things in a teeny tiny store!? This place is a gluten free oasis! They had so many gluten free products... fresh produce... baking goods... etc. they had several gluten free bread selections and even gluten free beer. They also have a delicious hot food section with the most amazing fish tacos ever! (Also gluten free). If you're staying locally in Tahoe or driving through this is a must stop place.

New Moon has the best organic produce in the area. Fresh and plentiful. Strongly recommend it.

I was trying to be hipster and shop at this "natural" food store, but really did not find much. The selection for fruits, vegetables, and snacks is pretty limited. I got a yogurt carton, a bag of granola, a pre-made rice roll, a pre-made chia seed pudding, and a juice, and the total came out to $50! It's expensive trying to be hipster. 1 star off: small selection 1 star off: big prices

It's a bit pricey but what can you expect in Tahoe. Small well curated store. Sort of iffy with the mask wearing policy at least in November when the rest of california was mandating it.

Happy to see New Moon thriving! This cozy but well curated market is a true community gem. Exceptional produce, lovely selection of quality picnic items as well as health food store standards including seasonal wellness items. I think the same owner I remember from back in the day. Love that! Much gratitude.

Great small space with many options including Dr. Bronners new chocolate line!!! Only issue is why don't you guys have seafood???? I had to go to Safeway too, but otherwise, love the produce selection, the healthy snacks, and the smaller vibe.

We desperately needed a natural food store in Truckee! This place is a gem because all of us that care about organic and vegan foods are all here. The other day I went by and got some amazing vitamins and bananas and the bananas were the best I'd ever tasted, no kidding. They also had a deli area that I've never tried but will in the future, I stop here every time I come up to Tahoe. The other day I stocked up on some wonderful teas and amazing vitamins since I want to start taking just one... The organic fruit is top notch too.

Love, love, LOVE this store. It's a full-on grocery store with a huge selection of healthy foods & gourmet stuff & vegetables & grill & smoothies & beer & wine & ready-made dishes & vitamins & everything else you can imagine. The employees are nice & helpful. I wish they had outdoor seating but, other than that, it's perfect.

One of my favorite places in Tahoe City. I always end up getting sick when we go up to our cabin, and I'm never prepared with any cold medicines I can tolerate(I can't take typical cold meds so I use naturopathic and homeopathic medicine). This store has SO many options and it's all laid out easily depending upon what your illness is. The staff is super helpful when picking things out, too. I also love the amount of gluten free foods they have here, and they're a great price! Some things are cheaper here than they are in Sacramento! Totally recommend new moon.

The guy who manages the vitamin area, which is super well stocked, is super knowledgeable! The prices are also reasonable! The fresh vegetable and produce section is well stocked and there is a nice selection. For a smaller sized store, they have managed to stock it very well!

A plethora of organic produce and non perishable food. I loved it. They had so much to offer for a small store. I'm really glad I didn't go to Safeway. I found all the organic produce to be fresh and a huge selection. I also got organic dairy, meat, and bulk items like oats and rice. I didn't realize they had a location here too in Tahoe City. We've been to their Truckee locations many times. Thank you New Moon!!

Discovered this spot while on a bike ride. Love it here!! Got some kombucha, some raw hummus, great looking veggies and some coconut water to refresh. I'll be back. So happy I found you!!

I wish I could give this place five stars, the products are really great. The vegetables are fresh and they have a large assortment of supplements. Unfortunately the staff was awful and unhelpful, I went there twice thinking that the first time I might have been too judge mental but the second time they were just as bad. Unfortunate, I would like to shop there more often but I can deal with the hostility and unhelpful mentality of the staff, ai fee for the owners, They probably truly wanted to have a good place. But the staff makes it unbearable for me to come back.

I agree with the other reviewers - this place is a real cool gem! I don't have much experience with health food stores - but this one seemed very organic - whereas some of the other ones I've been to feel a bit on the sterile side. I chatted with the guy running the register - he said that even though it's very slow right now - they do enough business in the summer and winter peak seasons to make it. I bought a cup of their Papaya salad and a bottle of carrot juice. Good Papaya salad!

Awesome people, awesome store. I wish I had gotten there before 3 to get some hot food but the refrigerated section offered me great choices.

Beware their online inventory is most likely incorrect. I checked for their store specifically for a few items (even though store workers told me I did not) prior to driving over 1/2hr to get their with my young son. They also have worker not wearing mask talking to customers and checking them out...frustrating for higher risk families when it's a state mandate. Everything else about the store is fantastic. I'm disappointed in the last experience. Hoping to help save another family a trip. Call ahead if you're going for specific things or just go to truckee.

It was so convenient during our vacation in Tahoe City, to have a Heath Food Store so close by. We found everything we needed there: Fresh broccoli, coconut ice cream, fancy chocolate. They have a great selection. Whatever your recipe might ask for, you can find it at New Moon.

Shop local, buy small, support your neighborhood natural food store... Tahoe City New Moon is a woman-managed run charming little store - probably the smallest natural food store in California but New Moon has the biggest heart of any store I have ever been in... I'd rather shop at New Moon than Whole Foods any day... the staff is always happy to see me, very helpful and really pleasant to be around... New Moon's produce dept is stocked with fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables. I am always amazed by the versatile and impeccable selection of exactly what I am looking for. If they don't have it, Eli and Tammy will get it for you the next day. New Moon was out of nutritional yeast, they ordered it from their Truckee store and delivered it within twenty minutes... The staff at New Moon has the biggest smile - they are genuinely happy to see me and everyone that walks through their door... There is no one I trust more than the New Moon... I am always confident that everything I buy is fresh, local and organic... Thank you New Moon - and - do not forget to eat lunch at The Uncommon Kitchen. Dawn and Doug are amazing - their food rivals restaurants with a Michelin Star. They have an open kitchen and make everything fresh right before your eyes. Amazing store!! All the freshest produce, great selection of beer and wine, fresh bread, artesian selection of goodies. A must shop at for the best quality food.

This review is based on a few visits over the past 4 years. I see some of the reviews being critical of customer service but its Tahoe...the employees chat it up with regular customers they know but if you ask for assistance they are very helpful. I just relocated to the Reno area from California so if your not happy with customer service in Tahoe area...TRY California customer service, lol. So, the deals in the store are the pasta sauces, pasta noodles, numerous Organic marinades for your ribs/steaks, chicken and tri tips. If your hungry from your bike ride (I usually ride 18 miles round trip to Squaw) the deli department is a MUCH better upgrade than the chain grocery stores. In the winter, you can warm up next to the new addition with fireplace a blazing. 4 Stars as the wine prices are a bit high.

Walked in saw two employees not wearing masks. One of them restocking produce. Walked right out never to return. How can you trust food from people who have no regard for their patrons health. Next stop is a report to CDPH.

My major worry with any trip I take, is that I won't be able to find any healthy organic food. Thankfully, we were staying just a mile or so away from this grocery store, which saved my metabolism for a few days! I was able to pick up grocery items to get through every breakfast and eliminate unnecessary eating out. They also had ready made deli food for added convenience if you don't have a kitchen where you're staying, but you also don't want to dine out for every meal. Their selection is limited when it comes to fresh produce and fruit, but you can get by. Besides grocery items, they also carry body care products. Overall, a charming cozy little store that took care of all my grocery needs for 4 days!

Such a Truckee gem! My husband and I are both gluten and dairy free and are always well accommodated at New Moon. Great food selection and great customer service!

Great little natural foods store. They have a good grocery selection, a lot of produce, and a deli and pre-made foods to take home. It was a nice find.

A small store that offers more organic and healthy options to food and supplements. Bit expensive which is why I reduce my star rating to 4 as even for this area and what is provided the cost is higher than one would expect. They have a larger store in Truckee, CA that is comparable price wise but does offer a much larger selection. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they are willing to order products they do not have if requested which is a nice bonus. If you don't feel like driving to the next major city and are willing to pay a bit more this store, and it's larger Truckee counterpart are a great option for your needs.

Quality people. Quality atmosphere. Quality food. Had coconut tiramisu and a raw brownie.

Has all the things everywhere else in Tahoe doesn't. Don't do all of my grocery shopping here but whenever I need a specialty item, they always come through. Plus that little deli spot has really great food!

So happy this place exists! Great selection of good stuff and organic produce to keep us going while up in the mountains. Love the friendly staff and the service. They will try and order you anything even if they don't stock it. The uncommon kitchen stuff is really delicious too. Try the rawco and the Asian cabbage salad with miso dressing.

Funny that this store continuously runs out of the items that sell the best! when i asked about a particular item as to when they were going to get it in, the answer was, well we sell it....lol, yea that's what happens in a store...you sell things! geez...no matter what it is from sunflower seeds to yogurt, bread to hand sanitizer if the store is out of what you are looking for no one seems to have the slightest idea when it will be in again or if it was ordered. the person or persons doing the ordering have no concept of how to do it affectively. you would think by now they would have a system that checks what they have on the shelf and get a computerized system to tally what is needed. also, i am told they do not have the computer chip in their machine cos the owner is too cheap to get one omg! they seem to be walking around with 2 left feet...not knowing what is going on. nor do they seem to care if they lose business in the process...i mean, if they don't have it they can't sell it and that equals 0

Love love love this little natural foods store tucked in the back of a small parking lot. They have a deli counter that serves some of the best and creative vegetarian foods--I ordered a thai rice wrap, and they were happy to add whatever I pleased to it. It was stuffed full and served with asian marinated cucumber slices. Also had the raw cacao brownie. So many items made to order and ready to pick up in the fridge that I had a difficult time decided.

I would have to say that New Moon has a wonderful selection of groceries and food. Which is great if you are vegan and looking for non traditional foods. The problem is in the staff, arrogant, inattentive, no one waits by the cash register. They take your money and you aren't sure if they even rang you up correctly. Anyway, it gives alternative lifestyle people (ie. Vegans, vegetarians) a bad name and it's shameful. Very disappointed.

An oasis in Tahoe for essential supplies left back at home in the bay area. Had my favorite Kombucha flavors plus two I've never seen before. Picked up new digestive enzymes and anti-inflamatory...one of the guys made a call and confirmed what we were looking for. Friendly staff. Yummy prepared foods and for us gluten-free people, a variety of GF breads. A short 15 min drive from Kings Beach. I'm so coming back on next road trip up here.

Every community should be blessed with some decent opportunity for organic related products: produce, veggies, deli, beverages, condiments, body and tablet products. Yes, prices are higher than a super market offering (Safeway) or the weekly Farmers' Market....BUT, you can certainly find specifics to satisfy an immediate need. I tend to go to New Moon because of the convenience (rather than Safeway in Tahoe), the personal attention that staffers provide, the daily offerings of the deli....the North shore of Tahoe is blessed to have this little gem. Try it......you may become a regular.
