The Best New Orleans Tours, from Cemeteries to Street Art

"This is for anyone remotely interested in New Orleans' rich history of jazz, blues, and rock music. The tour starts at Louisiana Music Factory and manages to cram three centuries of musical history into a few hours. Stories include those of the Royal Orleans Hotel—a longtime favorite of Led Zeppelin, Jefferson Airplane, and The Grateful Dead—plus key songs shared on a Bluetooth speaker." - Paul Oswell

New Orleans Music and Heritage Tour Keith’s tour is exactly what my husband and I didn’t know we needed. We considered visiting the swamp or a cemetery, but we weren’t too excited and kept looking. We came to New Orleans because we love jazz! “Where’s the jazz tour,” we asked Google? “Right here,” answered Google. The New Orleans Music and Heritage Tour exceeded our expectations in every way. We began in a record store lobby on Frenchmen Street greeted by the ever-affable Keith. It was clear from the beginning that Keith has a real passion for the subject and that his knowledge is vast and comfortable. I won’t reveal the content of the tour because Keith does it so much better (and sans a script!); but, suffice it to say, history is revealed, step-goals are shattered, and surprises abound. I cannot recommend the New Orleans Music and Heritage Tour enough for those who enjoy the low-down and sometimes-not-so-pretty stories behind such a rich musical heritage and such a great city. Thank you, Keith

A group of 4 of us - me and my husband (in our 40s) along with my parents (in their 70s) - signed up for this tour after reading the rave reviews, and it didn't disappoint. My parents are very into jazz and music history, and loved talking to Keith about his personal experiences with local musicians. My husband and I are less knowledgeable but really enjoyed learning more about the beginnings of jazz and the city’s influences. We all got a hoot out of walking around the French Quarter, listening to music, and seeing Keith interact with folks we bumped into along the way. Keith is quintessentially New Orleans and was an unforgettable guide. If you're looking for something new and you're at all into music (which I'm guessing you are if you're in New Orleans!), then take this tour!

My husband is a musician, but neither of us knew that much about Jazz. I booked us for the Music & Heritage Tour with Keith. It was amazing to learn about the rich history of the city and the music traditions of New Orleans. We were blown away and this tour was one of the highlights of our trip. Also, Keith recommended a few bands to check out on our trip, and he was spot on-- great music! Highly recommend!!

Keith's Music and Heritage tour is a must. Keith's passion for music shines through his storytelling of the creation of many underground blues and jazz singers who were birthed right here in NOLA. He gives you the raw history of how jazz was born, no fakes or flakes. It's mostly a walking tour and very easy to find his location. If you are also looking for hotspot, local jazz places which are "not" touristy, look no further as Keith will also let you know where to check out amazing and great jazz music.

If I could put more than 5 stars I will. Keith is fantastic, he knows all about Musics in New Orleans and most of the musicians. During your tour you may meet one of them and enjoy a special moment you won't forget. Fan of music, while in New Orleans book your tour with Keith, you're gonna to discover the city the way you never did it before. ❤️❤️❤️

Keith gave us a VIP tour last Sunday. It was just us 3 that day, and he took us around the town for more than 2 hours. He is a very knowledgeable man and we learnt a lot about jazz. Keith is very nice and kind and knows the city, culture, and history well. I’m looking forward to tasting all the special food with his foodie tour the next time I visit New Orleans.

In all of our travels, one of the best tours we have ever taken. Keith Abel is a font of music knowledge, New Orleans history and culture, humor, and storytelling. Plus he so genuine and fun and kind. Thank you Keith.

All I can say is the other tours my wife and I took while in New Orleans didn't hold a candle to Keith's tour. His passion for the subject matter shined through. So much information.... We found ourselves constantly comparing our other Tours to Keith's. He set the bar for us.

Yelp
What a fantastic cultural, historical, and music tour. Keith, our tour guide, was phenomenal. A wealth of knowledge about New Orleans and musical history. The addition of discussed musical pieces playing from Keith's small Bluetooth speaker was a fantastic addition to the tour. Brought to life a lot of the fantastic artists discussed. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in history and music (jazz, blues, rock) history. Keith, do you have a Spotify playlist of music artists discussed during the tour? If so, please share your playlist!

Yelp
Knowledgeable and great guy and a very thorough tour. We basically covered most of the French Quarter and visited various landmarks. Keith showed us good places to wine and dine, and we had a great time. Would certainly recommend to a friend.
