New River Climbing School

Dave was an awesome guide, super friendly and knowledgeable about climbing in and around the New River Gorge. My friend and I went forth with his advice and sent some awesome routes in the gorge for the remainder of our trip. 10/10 would recommend.

My wife and I went climbing with New River Climbing School yesterday and had a wonderful time. Our guide Dave was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. He fit a nice variety of climbing and rappelling experiences in for us and really helped us have a great day out in the New River Gorge. Highly recommended.

We had a great time! Dave did a great job of teaching and making sure we felt comfortable. He really paid attention to what we wanted to get out of the trip. Great for intermediate climbers like us who wanted to get more comfortable climbing outside but he’d also be great for beginners or experts.

A friend and I went climbing with David for an afternoon and we had a marvelous time. He did an excellent job picking routes to match our respective levels and we were able to fit a lot of climbing into a short period of time. I highly recommend David and New River Climbing School to climbers of any level. It was a great experience for a great price.

I had an incredibly good experience with New River Climbing School. I was pretty rusty and out of shape, and hadn't done much outdoor climbing, and after a few days working with Dave, I felt really good and I had learned a ton about sport lead climbing, top-roping, rope management and much more, including interesting facts about the New River Gorge area's geology and geography. I'd highly recommend New River Climbing School to anybody at any level of climbing!

I had the most amazing experience with David. My partner and I had two different levels of climbing experience, but he was able to cater an experience that wasn’t too difficult for me or too simple for my partner. His knowledge of the area and his positive attitude made a potentially terrifying experience (for me) one that I truly treasured! Definitely recommend!

David assesses clients' need so well and provides the best possible instructions/knowledge sharing sessions. I and two friends of mine had amazing weekend taking two full days climbing classes and we're thrilled to learn so much David offered. He is the most knowledgeable and supportive climbing teacher I've ever met.

I purchased a groupon for a 4 hour climbing/rappelling class months ago, and finally got around to using it Columbus day weekend. The trip was planned via email and they were really flexible with us rescheduling due to a rainy forecast. It did end up raining the day of our trip, but our instructor (Dave Wolff) was great and brought us to a place with overhanging rock so we could climb in dryer conditions. He was really great at explaining different techniques, how all the gear works and was very encouraging. We spent more time climbing than I had expected which was great! It was definitely worth the trip and I can't wait to get back out there.

We booked a full day climbing with Dave and he was really flexible as the weather was poor and we were going to have to make an early start so he was happy to start a bit later. When we turned up late he was really chilled out about it and got us excited for our day. He had clearly listened to what we wanted to achieve during our day and brought us to a couple of spots that met all our criteria for challenging climbs within our level and keeping us in the best conditions given the rainfall the previous night. He was great fun, very encouraging and a great teacher and never once made us feel uncomfortable when we had difficulty on certain routes. He even brought is to a few areas that had amazing views which was fantastic as the new river is such an beautiful place to climb. New river climbing was our first outdoor climb after being in climbing gyms for a few months and we couldn't have asked for more from an intro to outdoor climbing!

Truly excellent service from tour guide Grant Price. He was extremely professional, patient, and clearly has a wealth of knowledge and a true love of mountaineering. He is an excellent teacher, and customized our day with a great balance of technical instruction and climbing. I cannot use enough superlatives to describe the service we received today. I will be telling all of our friends here in Pittsburgh to go to Grant. Well worth the drive and cost of the lesson. When you go, ask for Grant!

I called David a couple weeks out from the actual trip. I told him I wanted to climb for a half day with 7 of my friends. He worked with me to get the right trip planned at the right cost. On the day of he agreed to meet 30 minutes before our actual time started. That way we could get through the paperwork. He also brought another guide to make things go quicker. He let us choose what we wanted to do and we climbed and rappelled. The two guides even stayed late (for about another 30 minutes) so that we all had a chance to do what we wanted. I would recommend this company to all my friends and if I take another trip back I will give them a call.
