I don't know how many times I passed this store riding the bus. Yesterday I decided to take a walk from downtown and I am glad I did. It was during lunch hour and it was busy. The first thing I noticed was an area for seating and people eating. There was an amazing buffet that featured some amazing dishes. THE EGG ROLLS WERE AMAZING ! The overall store has an amazing presentation featuring a fresh fish market, organic , natural and a bakery section that had five star high quality selections. I was very impressed. I felt a little uncomfortable because the eyes of the cashier and the buffet server was keeping close contact. It was my first time being there and I didn't take it personally. Overall, I definitely will go back for more egg rolls. The prices for the buffet are RIGHT ON!!! As far as the overall grocery prices, they do what they do to provide a service to our community. Thank you.

Google
Great selection and the perfect opportunity to share some fresh smoked salmon and reindeer sausage. I understand they ship it anywhere but I managed to smuggle it away in my checked bag. Bunch of other stuff, but I was on a mission. Even a deli!

Google
One of my favorite places to visit in Anchorage! Fantastic service! So friendly! Really great prepared deli food and hot bar! Amazing seafood counter that will vacuum seal fresh fish for travel! Wonderful variety of foods! The coffee and Cafe located inside is terrific! They have delicious salmon spread in the deli counter as well!

Google
This is my new go-to grocery store! I visited for the first time today(I live downtown and usually go to the Carrs on Gambel)... kind of kicking myself for not visiting sooner. The produce section is well stocked and full of very fresh veg and fruit. They have a cafe, buffet and bakery in store. Sadly I came in a little too late to try these. There's a seafood section full of fresh options to choose from including lobsters. The store is well stocked for it's size and very clean. The staff is friendly and fast as well. This is one of the hidden gems here in Anchorage. Aside from the occasional visit to Red Apple for harder to find ingredients I don't think I'll be doing much grocery shopping anywhere else!

Google
A well stocked supermarket with a seating area with utensils and sauces provided for having your meal. You can get a proper lunch box for less than $10. There's also a soup and salad bar, bakery and a fresh seafood section. Fruits tend to be expensive though. You can get a cup of coffee from the cafe inside the supermarket too. It's within walking distance from downtown although it might be difficult to walk there during winter with slippery ice on the sidewalks. It's the only proper supermarket downtown as far as I know though.

Finally I’ve found great store in Anchorage. I’m from Downtown Los Angeles and this store 90% correspondents my expectations. Other stores targeting local population, this store is great for fastidious travelers. Recommend! A+

Google
Very helpful employees! Modest selection; the midtown location certainly has more variety and more specialty foods/items, nevertheless a nice market.

Google
Lots of newer staff it seem, but friendly and helpful. Good selection, but pricey.. overall decent

Yelp
Lunch at New Sagaya is a busy affair, but that is for good reasons. The tasty lunch offerings at City Market are fresh, healthy, and widely varied. From sushi, to wraps, to salad bar, and daily offerings like meat loaf, lasagna, sweet & sour chicken w/rice, pizza and others, it's hard not to find something delicious. I chose to have a fresh roast beef and cheddar sandwich made at the sandwich bar. This along with a side of fresh Rotelli pasta made for a great lunch. All this for less than an average fast food lunch.

Loyd A.

Yelp
I like their food takeout, seafood department, some items are little spendy but okay!

Cynthia C.

Yelp
Markets are pretty much my favorite thing - you control the what is in your meal and it's SUPER fresh. So glad we found Sagaya - we came here a few times during our trip for: -fresh veggies -fruit, great organic apples! -ginger chews for our travels -chicken broth -a fresh selection of poke and ceviche -smoked salmon spread - it's excellent! We bought this TWICE -fish monger - wild and fresh, best halibut ever!!! Gleaming and semi translucent filet. This was an invaluable stop for us and our stay in our Airbnb.

Yelp
I've noticed over the last few months the quality, of the premade caesar salads, has slowly got worse. I bought one a couple weeks ago and it smelled rancid. Bought another today and the same thing... rotten smell. Please do better. I love my neighborhood store (since it opened)

A M.

Yelp
check your reciepts, overcharge on groceries on actual transaction than list price. ofte times too late to return to store to get refund or contest pricing

Yelp
Normally I love going to the downtown location because it's close to work but lately I feel so uncomfortable. Most of their employees are great except one. There's a younger guy that works at the warm deli that wears a lot of anime shirts that always makes weird and sometimes creepy comments to women that come in there alone. My teenage niece used to go in daily and the guy would always make small talk with her until he found out where she worked and call her job and asked her on a date. She was so creeped out she hasn't gone back. I don't normally get the hot food but a couple weeks after the incident I went to get hot food. Immediately the guy starts up with "is dating hard?" Before going on about how he just wants to find someone, he's ready to start dating, he's afraid to get hurt, and he doesn't even know where to start. It made me so uncomfortable that I don't even want to go back because I don't want to run into him. I can't even figure out how to contact new Sagaya to report it.

Yelp
While staying in Anchorage needed to get some groceries at walking distance. This was the closest market. The fish area offers nice variety and everything looks very fresh. The produce area has plenty of items at a very high price. So we limit our shopping to very basics. A guy in front of us at the register was surprised to know the three bell pepper he's getting were almost 14 bucks. They don't sell alcohol but you'll find cigarettes.

Richard N.

Yelp
If they don't have the live seafood line lobster and crab Midtown, call here. They have different delivery schedules. Lobster was gone Midtown, but called and they had a some!

David B.

Yelp
Groovy little neighborhood grocery store full of hard to find items. Great produce, Great baked goods, Great salad bar, great seafood, fantastic Poké! Nice little communal hang out usually full of the warm and friendly neighborhood socialites and their dogs. Very convenient for me to go grab lunch and a cup of Kaladi Brothers coffee there in the middle of the day.

A. Y.

Yelp
I went and thought it was an Asian market but it's just a regular American market. It's just a grocery store, no authentic Asian items.

Lydia L.

Yelp
I'm so happy I found this place! I've been coming to Anchorage all summer for business trips and now I have my go to market. The staff were friendly and the spicy ahi tuna was delicious! I'll definitely be back!

Franklin M.

Yelp
Our Bed & Breakfast was nearby so we stopped by to get some bottled water. The prices are very reasonable here and they had plenty of goodies to purchase. I saw many products that are not available in California.

Jordan W.

Yelp
Pretty standard fare. They have a good mix of healthy food, upscale brands, as well as some kitchen staples. The coffee was also above average. I'd probably shop here if I lived in the area.

Gregg P.

Yelp
New sagaya in itself is decent, overpriced at best but it's just local. The food they sell at mom's? GOD AWFUL, literally what sparked this review is the most disgusting plate I got today. Meatloaf, rice and mash potatoes. The meatloaf WAS LITERALLY LIKE CATFOOD. Mash was dry and like play dough Rice? Tasted like rice you cant F microwave rice. Jesus I'm still so disgusted.

Wendy C.

Yelp
I'm a regular here, they know me well, on the deli counter, the hot food counter, the Kaladi staff, well I'm on first name terms with them, and they know my order without me even asking. I'm looking at you Jay and Jay - 12 oz English Breakfast Tea, with a precise half-inch of room for my skim milk. I come here three times a week for lunch, and there are lots of good options. 4 types of soups, although they no longer make my favourite, as it was either too expensive, or not popular enough, or a combination of the two. It was Smokey corn chowder, and it had an awesome kick of heat. $4.99 for 16oz soup and roll is a perfectly good deal for lunch. I like the salad bar options too, because you can choose taco salad, tortilla chip salad, you can make tacos, or a baked potato with hot toppings - taco meat, chili, taco chicken and the taco cheese sauce. I like to just pile everything in the box on top of tortilla chips or a potato. There's loads of different dressings too. It's $7.99 a pound. And there are lots of Chinese, and American food options, I particularly love the chicken curry as it has potatoes in it, and it's really flavourful. The Chicken Pot Pies are to die for. Heavens i could just eat one right now. 100% better than Marie Callender. And you can also buy your roasted chickens here too, take one home for a quick and easy dinner. Tear that meat off and make a salad, or a soup. Don't waste the tasty carcass and skin though - smash it to pieces, chuck it in a big pan with onions carrots garlic, and you've got an awesome stock!! They can make you a fresh hot pizza, or they have some ready made folded calzones. The Shepherds Pie is a pure delight, and the meatballs are savory and delicious. And if you need a musubi fix, you can get that here too. Sushi, spring rolls, chips, crackers, cakes, cheeses. And i buy a ton of the Jalapeño Cheese Dip (known as Kenai Dip in some places) There are also ready-made sandwiches and salads, pre wrapped, but i like to order a fresh made tuna salad sandwich (half sandwich for $5.25, and it is HUGE) comes with everything on it, toasted or untoasted, and they come with chips and a pickle. I took off 1 star, because the lunch tables could do with cleaning more often, and in the past, when they used to leave the spray and dishrag available, I'd wipe it myself. That's my one criticism, and it's a small one. And of course, it's a small grocery store too, you can get some truly unusual items here. English Butter (Well actually Lurpak is Danish, but it's what English people always bought at home) I was very surprised to find that here. Do you love Pocky? It's right here! And the produce section is always beautifully clean looking, and it has been the ONLY place that I've been able to source actual fresh parsnips, that are not brown and bendy. That in ALaska, is a huge achievement. They often have great produce deals. I also feel it's necessary to point out that I've sent King Crab to my friend in Arizona from here twice, a very easy process. Right from the awesome seafood section, and the price is super competitive. And in summer, they grill outside, where they have tables set outside in the sunshine. The smell is so gloriously inviting, and the ambiance is like, friends just grillin' and chattin'. The staff here are super cool. And please keep up the free samples of cake, chips, dips etc. It's one of the many reasons I keep coming back.

Yelp
This place is super over priced. There prepared foods use the cheapest ingredients and they cut corners in quality and quantity at ever step. Maybe 20 years ago this was ok when they were the only game in town. But now the store feels dirty, low quality and overpriced.

Andrew H.

Yelp
DISCLAIMER: You should not trust me on grocery store reviews. Still with me? OK. This place is cute, it's convenient (at least if you live where I do), and it's pricey. Very pricey. I bought snacks and food for a weekend of camping and the total was like...$30?! I could have eaten out for that much! What happened to me? This is a great place if you like oddball/hard-to-find/organicy/gluten-free-y snacks and other items. Unfortunately, they don't have beer. This seems like the type of place that would have an AMAZING beer selection.

Moriah K.

Yelp
I've been coming to this New Sagaya location for 20+ years. As a kid I came for the brownies and cookies, as a teenager for the spam and egg musubis (freshest in town). Now I love them for their salad bar (not a huge selection but always fresh), their soup (tomato blue cheese for the win!) and quick items. They're overpriced and not open late, but they're convenient if you work downtown, and you can expect the quality to be superior for the most part. Don't bother stopping by here for a quick cup of coffee - the Kaladi's inside is always packed. Always.

Georgia D.

Yelp
A bit pricy but worth it. The hot food section is delicious with new things every day. I love that they have about every Stonewall Kitchen jams and sauces. Wish they carried the ketchups, mustards and aolis of this brand but glad they have a huge selection. The have House of Tsang but only the peanut sauce and I wish they had more from that line too. I love checking out the seasonings, it's mostly what I come for, all in all its a regular market with a twist. A lot of Alaska made items so I try to buy local when I can, so that's a bonus as well. Best part for me is they carry L'aroma bakery cakes by the slice! Heavenly. The aisles are tiny and tight to maneuver if you have a regular sized cart. I use the hand basket to make it easier.

Yelp
why haven't we been to this place before? I thought there was only one place in town which was close to an Indian store but how wrong I was ! The new Sagaya market has some fresh vegetables(stuff my wife prefers to use while cooking Indian), quite a lot of other interesting "Indian" stuff too plus the usual that you would want to see at any other super market. Their food court is awesome. Good food for reasonable prices and the quantity of food is enough to really fill you up. If I remember right, we paid somewhere around just 10 dollars for a lot of noodles, the beef dish and an egg roll. You have quite some options to choose from and the ladies who serve out the food are generous. They want you to have ur fill I guess. For a couple of dollars more, you get to choose two entrees with you rice or noodles. They also have a section that just caters to sweet stuff - cakes, pies and all sort of other desserts. And if you feel like having a coffee in between all this - yes, they have a Kaladi's in here too. Knowing how slim our options are in terms of places to shop at for Indian stuff - my wife and I are glad we found this place.

Yelp
I have always enjoyed coming down to this location whether it is to grab a quick meal or pick up some hard-to-find items that you normally wouldn't find at most grocery stores. The New Sagaya City Market is located on the corner of 13th and I St. on the outskirts of downtown Anchorage in a quiet residential neighborhood. Accessibility is a lot easier here than the tight congested corner of their other store on 36th and Old Seward. The seating area is a stark contrast to the Midtown location. It is wide open and spacious with lots of windows and free Wi-Fi offered by the Kaladi Brothers Café for working or studying. The Midtown location has more of a cafeteria look with tables lined up in the middle and no windows for sunlight to come in making a lunch experience there cramped and uncomfortable. I decided to try some Sesame Chicken and Garlic Chicken Fried Rice at their Chinese food counter next to the sandwich station in the deli area. The price for the meal was a good deal at $7.95 especially with the amount of food they gave me. The guy behind the counter was friendly and gave me an enormous portion of chicken and rice that was almost overflowing the to-go box that they gave me. I was happy to get this since I didn't have a chance to eat lunch earlier in the day and I was ravenously hungry. The Sesame Chicken was cooked perfectly with the meat moist and just the right amount of breading and sauce for an evenly flavored taste and a crispy texture full of sesame seeds. The Fried Rice was also delicious with a good amount of chicken as well as the rice being cooked just right without being too dry or hard. This store is my ideal choice for some great seafood items as well as pork roast and steak. The prices may be more than places like Carrs or Walmart but everything I bought here has always been fresh and price specials will appear from time to time on some of the larger cuts of meat. Oddly enough, this is also one of my favorite places to get imported chocolates. My favorite brand of chocolate is Ritter Sport from Germany. Their milk chocolate bar is by far way better than Hershey's. The store has a separate display stand with more than a dozen flavors available. Some of my favorites that I always get when I stop in include the Raisins and Hazelnuts, Espresso Beans, Corn Flakes, Tortilla Chips, and White Chocolate with Hazelnuts. Again, these bars are pricey, but well worth it for the taste and quality. New Sagaya has definitely come a long way since they were operating at a small location off of Spenard Rd. down from 36th Ave back in the 1980's. As a kid, I had fond memories of that place whenever I went with my mother to pick up some groceries. The Rice Candy with the wrapper that melts in your mouth was something that mom always got for me before leaving the store. That same candy is still being sold today at the cash registers in both stores. The wide variety of foods, both local and imported, have made New Sagaya an enduring longtime favorite with the locals and is a testament on how much they have succeeded since that little store back on Spenard.

Charlene K.

Yelp
Midtown location is walkable from nearby hotels, kaladi coffee is the bomb!! Fresh bakery items who can resist? And don't forget lunch options: sushi, hot buffet, sandwiches, soup...etc. love it!

James T.

Yelp
Terrible customer service, these people are straight up rude to their customers, I was called an asshole for no apparent reason...

Chongmi A.

Yelp
BEWARE! Ask for your receipt at the cashier checkout! They over charged on all my items $1-2 per each item. Groceries cost has gone up already but to over charge is outrageous.

Bill J.

Yelp
Read about this place in the guide book, thought we'd try it out looking for Chinese food and poke/sushi. We got there on a Saturday night... at 5:30pm (hours before they close at 9pm), in Summer daylight, after a day of hiking, and the Chinese food area was all packed up already. We settled for hours-old spring rolls and build-your-own salad. There was a variety of stuff that looks like it had been in the Chinese bins, but then put into plastic and stored on ice for you to buy and reheat (in our hotel, I guess?). Skip it. Find a restaurant that's actually open.

Emil C.

Yelp
This was a nice little store. It was very clean and organized. I came here because it was just across the street from where I was staying. After walking through the place to see what they had to offer, I noticed that most of the patrons were in line to get some Kaladi Brothers coffee. I'm guessing it must be good stuff. I bought some coffee to take back to the office. I also bought some drinks for the weekend to use during the marathon. I guess it was fortunate for me that their Powerade was on sale. The cashier was nice and friendly. I found it to be a nice place to shop in the short time that I was there.

Riley O.

Yelp
Employee didn't like that I gave her folded dollar bills so she called me a child...Normally they're nice but lately they've been rather rude.

James L.

Yelp
Conveniently located next to the Inlet Tower Hotel & Suits, New Sagaya City Market makes for the perfect place to stock up on fresh food and hot meals during your stay.

Becca C.

Yelp
Geez I've been coming here for months and only now writing a review.... Where to start, first they have a Kaladi coffee stand with Aroma Bakery pastries and croissants. Great if you want a little pick me up for breakfast. They have a full selection of produce but they focus on the organics, and sometimes the fruit is a wee bit past its prime. If you're coming here for lunch, they have a great deli that you can get freshly baked pizzas, as well as paninis and sandwiches. They have sushi, soup, and a salad bar as well. If you'd like to enjoy your meal there, they have a sizable dining space with several tables. As for the grocery selection, this location isn't as Asian-centered as their Midtown location, but they still have plenty of jasmine rice, curry paste, pad thai noodles and all the other fixins for some good cookin. They also have a wide selection of higher end olive oils, jams, healthy cereals....basically if you're trying out a new recipe and see wierd ingredients, you'd probably be able to find it here. Prices aren't a bargain, but it is one of those organic, granola establishments. The location is very close to downtown, and I come here all the time.

Philip L.

Yelp
Best grocery market within walking distance from downtown (about 15-20min walk). Variety is less than what I'm used to in California, but good enough. Good sized seating area and decent mix of ethnic/Asian foods sprinkled in, with a better selection of organic/natural foods throughout the store - a nice plus

Alice C.

Yelp
I am quite impressed with what this store has in stock -- it has a huge variety of international (a-hem, Asian) items, as well as your American pantry staples. But what I'm more impressed is their deli. Sandwich? Check. Chinese food? What? I had to get the grocery store Chinese food because it looked decent. True, I was scared that it might be like mall Chinese food, but it can't be worse than that. Turned out the food was decent. It was Americanized, but they used short-grain rice and cooked it really, really well. The rice clumped together nicely, wasn't over or under cooked, and tasted great. I don't even get such nice rice in proper Chinese restaurants normally. I was impressed. The pepper beef was on the sweet side, which was a bit weird, but it tasted pretty good. The beef chunks were legit and not overly tenderized. If you like your grocery store deli counters as a lunch option, this might be a good choice.

Ryan P.

Yelp
Great little community market next to the inlet towers. Came here to get food to cook in my Forman grill in my hotel room. :) Was impressed w their poke and seafood selection. Only sad that they didn't sell (or even have in the back) an oyster shucker. Would have spent $100s of dollars on oysters if they had them. :-/

Jacky C.

Yelp
Well, nothing too special about it. Quite expensive. No other stores around. A bottle of water cost more than vendor machine. It's deli is better than gas station.

Richard D.

Yelp
I should just copy and paste my review from the Midtown Market. The two store locations seem pretty much the same to me. This store always comes up when you ask about places to buy seafood. Good for anchorage, but meh compared to other metropolitan areas that have Whole Foods and Asian markets.

Douglas D.

Yelp
Visited this store two days ago. Went into the deli for some Asian food. Was treated very rudely by the Deli Manager. The so call Owner was right there cashing out Customers, which I found very odd. He did not do anything to relief this situation. I will never patronize that store again and will tell others to do so.

Nasha W.

Yelp
This location is alot smaller than the other New Sagaya location but it looks a lot cleaner. I probably would not shop here unless I was looking for live seafood since their prices seem a bit steep. On the plus, their produce looks very nice and they have some items that are harder to find at the other chain grocery stores like kumquats and other items.

Neil G.

Yelp
Great seafood section and you can buy a whole halibut and have them (the experts) slice it up for you at no additional charge. The other fish choices are plentiful. The produce section is well taken care of and the food always looks good. The dinning area is always packed. The deli as good choices, and the sandwiches are made to order. The cashiers are friendly. the parking lot get crazy full and ive been backed into once and almost back into several times (horn blowing!!!). The Kaladi coffee line is usually long, but their bariestas are the best. I suspect they id the regulars and prepare their drinks before they get to the registers. We never seem to wait that long.

Denver P.

Yelp
Easy access in the city, great eatery just inside the door, go hungry.. Went for the fresh halibut sale and wasn't disappointed . Very local crowd They make money but obviously not paying money to fix the terrible parking lot

Leah P.

Yelp
This place had vacuum sealing so we brought in some salmon. When we got home we realized he did not seal the salmon properly and 3 out of 4 of the bags broke open. Crappy job. We were on our way out of town but because of this, had to make an EXTRA trip back to the store to have them re-done. We asked for a store credit because we had to return this batch which was a waste of our time when it should have been right the first time. Not only that but we were now running late to leave for our next fishing trip. The manager complained about how they would lose money if they gave us a credit because the cost of the bags. After arguing back and forth we eventually gave up and left. We were going to bring our next batch in to have them vacuum sealed as well but after receiving such terrible customer service, we will take our business elsewhere.

Bob F.

Yelp
Fire Island Bakery was closed so Choice number 2 was to go to La Aroma Bakery at the downtown City Market they were out of sourdough in fact I was told that I was the second person who had just told him that they've been to Fire Island first I ended up picking up some crusty Rosemary bread

Roy A.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite place to hang out, eat shop. It has always been overpriced but now the food is not very good. My husband had an $8 sandwich which was bland. My fried rice was like eating cardboard and the beef stir fry was tasteless, tough, and underwhelming. The place is dated and starting to look worn.

Julianne G.

Yelp
Tonight, two younger and very rude girl clerks refused to accept cash 15 minutes before closing, lying to us saying this is their new policy and refused to give their names, store manager name, and contact info. I was appalled at how terrible they treated me and they were not only rude, but seemed to enjoy it. I left my groceries ($40 worth) and walked out the door only to see them smiling through the window thinking this funny. I have had other experiences with other cashiers there over charging products by $20-$50 that should have been reduced or rung up different. I went to management last year about this happening numerous times, but it never did seem to be completely addressed. I stopped going to the midtown location also due to over ringing up of the incorrect prices by clerks by enormous price differences (you would not notice if you don't go back over your receipts) and then being told they are employee owned and noticing how rude some of the clerks can be to which still does not get addressed. There are also wonderful employees too, but these certain ones and experiences have been horrible, and honestly, very upsetting. I returned after being gone last year just recently only to now experience this tonight. I tried calling the other location to get management's information on who to speak to and a 3rd young girl on the phone was just as rude. It is almost as if these young women enjoy being this way to customers with power control tactics. There is no other way to explain such horrible behavior unless it stems from being employee owned. Not quite sure but feel at this point, others in the community should be made aware. Check your receipts for accurate register ring ups and expect to be rudely snapped at and treated if you do have a problem and Tom is not there. It has only been the midtown location that this seems to happen quite frequently at and it is unfortunate because Nusagaya has high quality food and produce and is the only reason I would shop there in the past. These experiences repeatedly occurring though lead me to believe that this will not be the last time and so shopping there is no longer probably a good idea because of such abusive conduct by these select few. Such a shame

Shopping B.

Yelp
The best of two worlds: smallish grocery store with great ingredients and delicious café (Kaladi) and prepared foods (L'Aroma). In the summer, it's a great place for outdoor seating.

Scott B.

Yelp
The grocery part of the store is pretty solid. They have a good selection of "ethnic" foods and ingredients if you're into cooking an eclectic style menu at home. Where they really shine, in my opinion, is the deli section. There's a nice little coffee bar and some really good prepared food. It's a great place to snag lunch in a hurry.

Javier P.

Yelp
Great place to go if you want some amazing Chinese food. I would have to recommend the Mongolian beef, garlic chicken as my go too's. They even fill the plate up if ya ask them too, cation on the sides spilling just cause it may be too much. Combo 1 and combo 2 are probs your best bet if ya wanna save money

M P.

Yelp
It's about the only option if you're stuck downtown (Wuhan) and want some carry out groceries. I've had the poke and it's always good.

Angie B.

Yelp
Awesome experience.. My boss recommended it to me, and I have read the reviews from other Yelpers so today was the day.. I pulled in the parking lot and a space opened up right by the door. (nice) nice seating outside. To the right in the door was a seating area, further to the right was a coffee bar. (smelled delicious) keep going to the right and you see the salad bar and hot bar. There was also a deli area that had readymade wraps, and sandwiches. I grabbed the Thai Chicken (it was recommended by a fellow yelper, and rightfully so it's delicious.. currently eating it) Walking around the store, they have a wonderful selection of organics as well as spices. The fish / meat case was beautiful. It looked like someone took the time to pick out great cuts of meat and selections of fish. Went to the checkout and spoke to the girl, and mentioned that it was my first time there. The other checker said "did you tell her the rules?' I said, oh no here we go. "the first time that you come in here you have to buy every staff member a cup of coffee" I started to laugh, he said that he would let me slide this time because I didn't know. (HAHAHA) I paid and looked at these plants on a stand (need something for my new office) as I walked out the checker said that the manager (Mr. Jokes at the other register) wanted to buy me a coffee! How funny. Went to the coffee bar and got my 8oz Chai..(didn't need to be glutton with a 20 oz.) and said thanks.. What a great lunch experience! People had said that this place was a little spendy. I didn't think so. This is what I got. A HUGE Thai chicken salad wrap A Pom Pomegranate and Blackberry tea A bag of Sing Buri cashews (to keep in my desk for mid day snack attacks) Gummy candies for the dish on my desk AND a free coffee For $20.00 AWESOME PLACE.. Give it a try.

Yelp
Sagaya is alright. I usually prefer going to the City Market, even though the other one is closer to my house, just because CM has a wider selection and are less likely to run out of things. They're really hit-or-miss with customer service, as well as with prices. Sometimes, I can find things here that are reasonably cheaper or of a better quality (for a little bit more) compared to other stores. I usually come here for most of my vegetable produce, as well as their weekly bread (which has gone up from $2.50 to $3.00 a loaf within a year). Sometimes, their prices are flat-out ridiculous for certain things, and with other stuff, they might be the only ones in town that carry some specialty item. I split my grocery shopping between here, Freddy's, and the Asian market on Fireweed. Competitive money-saving at its best. Things I've found here that are cheaper/equal-or-better-quality-for-slightly-more-money compared to Freddy's: most vegetables (lettuces, onions, root vegetables, herbs [since they bundle them in various sizes]), artisan bread, fruits when on sale, bottle juice drinks when on sale. Things that are ridiculously more expensive: tofu, most dairy products (ice cream, milk, butter, etc), frozen meals and pizzas, pre-made lunch items. It's a good place for some things, but I'd never shop here solely for all of my groceries.

Yelp
Came here for the awesome Kaladi Coffee. Browsed around and found this to be a great natural food store. People are saying this place is expen$ive and I agree. However, I'm from Hawai'i and these prices are standard. Checked out their seafood department & found awesome fresh oysters, King crab, wild salmon, halibut & spicy ahi poke!! Looked awesome too! Their Irish Soda cookie was stellar! A perfect balance of not too sweet with savory caraway seeds: 5 stars! I came back a couple time for this stuff. We also used this as our launching off point to catch the Ceremonial Start of the Iditarod and pretty much walked from the area to 4th street to avoid what we were told would be a cluster fuck for parking. Did I mention New Sagaya has great Kaladi Coffee!
