25 Best Christmas Towns in the U.S.

"A Telluride bar praised for maintaining the same mahogany-paneled look since 1895, offered as a classic, atmospheric place to enjoy drinks year-round and during holiday-time visits." - Katrina Brown Hunt Katrina Brown Hunt Katrina Brown Hunt is a San Diego-based freelance writer and editor, specializing in budget-friendly travel and family excursion topics. "If there are ghosts haunting the Historic Bar—which was rebuilt in 1895 after a fire decimated the original building—we don’t blame them for wanting to stay for eternity. Tucked within the New Sheridan Hotel, the tin-ceilinged space is what Rocky Mountain dreams are made of, from the carved mahogany bar to the affordable prices. Don’t miss the leaded glass panels and brass chandeliers, both of which are original to the 1895 space."

While the interior is beautiful and moody, I can't say we had a positive experience at the New Sheridan bar. We were able to grab a seat at the bar with no wait, but got a pretty intense review of our IDs before any service. I agree it is fair to review IDs however is needed, but it's the only place in Colorado during our week and half trip where there was hesitation so not sure what the issue was. The drinks themselves we received were weak and overly sweet and we expected more impressive liquor/whiskey options to match the historic bar setup/vibes.

Blonde haired lady the first night was FANTASTIC but the second night the man not so great . Treated my father in law pretty rude, thank goodness some people from Austin, Texas took up for him to the bartender (he is 79) but overall pretty cool experience … again I hate that I don’t know her name but she was great ! I think she has worked there for a while .. she knew the locals so I hope she knows she is appreciated.

Beautiful, historic building. The bar is so well built, amazing wood work and tin ceiling tiles. $5 Jack Daniel’s in Telluride, that was not expected! Bar tender was very friendly and great service. It got busy as it started to rain and it was a very fun crowd with great energy.

Best brunch of the trip. Didn’t have to wait , great menu options and was DELICIOUS.

This is one of the oldest Salon's still in existence out west. Located within the New Sheridan hotel, right on the main strip of Telluride, the inside of this establishment is beautiful. It has a very historic feel inside, the bar is beautiful, and there is even a game room in the back. This bar is a highly recommended visit while in Telluride.

Google
The drink prices are extremely reasonable. Atmosphere is great. I'm only knocking it down a star because the pool tables are too close together, and it's extremely difficult to play pool here. You are constantly dodging other patrons when lining up your shot.

Google
While the ambiance of the bar is undeniably striking—thoughtfully designed and full of character—the bar program falls flat. The bartender’s execution of a simple Old Fashioned revealed a concerning lack of foundational cocktail knowledge, resulting in a drink that was both unbalanced and uninspired. A venue with such promise deserves a bar staff capable of matching its aesthetic with equal craft.

First time in Telluride. We had a few drinks on the rooftop bar with Nico who is spectacular and had some great stories to tell and then we proceeded downstairs to try the Elk! It was spectacular and so was our bartender, Ruben.

Yelp
We stayed here for two nights on our first (but hopefully not last) visit to Telluride. This historic hotel has lots of charm. Our room was cozy and stylish. Beautiful bathroom except for the full-length mirror in front of the toilet?! Mattresses, pillows and bedding were very comfortable. Wallboard heaters in the bedroom and bathroom worked well and quickly. Every employee was friendly. We had to park a block away which isn't convenient with luggage. At least the weather was nice. I wouldn't want to trek through snow, ice or rain. The transom window above the room door lets in lots of light at night. We didn't have any problems with noise from the bar as others have reported. There is a white noise machine and earplugs in each room. There aren't mini fridges, bars or microwaves. No room service either. There's a bar and restaurant in the hotel which give discounts to hotel guests. We ate out at nearby restaurants.

Yelp
Randall and Dani are the best bartenders in Telluride. Randall was so fun and friendly that I came back the next day with 6 of my friends (who flew in a day later than me - a surprise for my birthday!) because I wanted them to meet him. Instead, we got Dani (we think that was her name!) who was SO awesome, and made us all a round of shots for my birthday. These bartenders are happy to serve people that are in from out of town and even happier to share do's and dont's around town. Visit when one of them are working and you won't have a bad time!

Yelp
For $500+ a night I have some basic expectation. 1) I'm greeted at the checkin desk at the hour of checkin. 2) when I call the front desk, someone answers. 3) I have hot shower water. 4) I'm given a wifi password on checkin. 5) the rooftop bar doesn't close at 8pm on a weekend. 6) I don't have a shower towel with stains on it. 7) I know where the ice machine is. 8) bedside plugins are on top of the side table and not hidden behind them requiring me to rearrange furniture. 9) shower has space to set shampoo and conditioner, etc. 10) staff doesn't shrug and chuckle when I say that I called down and no one answered, but rather apologizes for the inconvenience. 11) when asking for a wifi pin(code) I'm not given a literal writing pen. 12) not having the loudest screaming people on the street without the staff telling them to be quiet. And it's not like we could close our windows as we didn't have air conditioning and needed the fan on and windows open just to stay cool. 13) having someone there on checkout I don't care where the hell I'm staying, sometimes there are basics.

Yelp
Huge shoutout to Bo Bedford, the best manager and kindest person who HAND DELIVERED my room keys to me at the nearby coffee shop. Talking to him was a highlight of the trip. To the hotel staff member whom I "asssssuuuuurrrreeeedddd" there was no bar soap in my room- I'm sorry because I found the soap wrapped in a towel near the shower. My bad. It was a great experience. So charming and the ceiling fan was absolutely clutch. The rooftop is sooo cool here make sure to check it out.

Yelp
First time to Telluride and last minute grabbed this hotel! If you have been to the Stockyards Hotel in Ft Worth, this hotel has the same feel. It was beautiful, all the staff was over the top friendly and were glad that you were there! There is a roof top bar as well that was fun! Can see the mountains, staff was perfect and fun! We would stay here again!

Yelp
We went to check it out while in telluride. Daniel the bar tender / waiter gave us great pampered Servive and the concierge was so helpful to show us several room types. Breakfast was excellent location& service excellent and rooms beautifully appointed. We will stay there next time we go to Telluride. Location is best in town they warn you ahead about the noise. Just do my stay in n rooms 205 or 206. Those are above the bar. I'll d think it'd be worth a little noise. Great place and so pretty!

Yelp
First off, Telluride Ski Resort is da BOMB and with a variety of hotels to choose from, the New Sheridan Hotel repeatedly tops the list and has always been our absolute fav!! Why you ask? It's truly the "heart" and infamous "postcard picture" of downtown Telluride (courtesy of renowned NY artist, Roger Mason). But beyond the postcards and paintings (which are prominently displayed on the walls of the Parlor) the New Sheridan Hotel has a story to tell. Built in 1985 they say it was the "go-to place" for miners who struck it rich. It was completely restored and renovated in 2008, but let me tell you...while rooms maintain affordable and competitively priced, it still embodies a certain richness and remains historically intact with vintage pieces, memoirs and artifacts throughout. It has only 26 rooms/suites that have been beautifully updated with all the appropriate furnishings, decor and detail one would expect in a 5-Star hotel. If you're lucky enough to get a room with a front street view...holla! Oh, and be sure to take advantage of their roof top hot tubs...on a clear night let the stargazing begin! Last but certainly NOT LEAST...the New Sheridan staff is absolutely AH-MAZING! They're incredibly courteous, friendly, accommodating and always greet you with a warm smile. :-) Many thanks to Ray and his entire team for yet ANOTHER wonderful stay! The New Sheridan Hotel ROCKS!!

Yelp
6/10/2021 Better late than never! The rooms are very nice, clean and spacious! What really sets this hotel apart is their people! We inadvertently made reservations during the Bluegrass Festival and the party revelers parked themselves outside our window. The next morning they moved us to another room without hesitation! Everyone greeted us as if they sincerely liked us! :-) The one person I remembered by name is Sarah! She went out of her way to help this airhead lady to find her bag of electronic cords, repeatedly checking the old room cheerfully, when finally this said airhead lady finally found the bag stuffed/hidden in her backpack! Would definitely book again! Oh and don't forget to get a drink on the roof!

Yelp
Love this hotel. Beautifully renovated and central location in downtown. Restaurants and bars are the hippest happiest and most delicious in town. We had a beautifully appointed room. Elegant and comfy . What a treat

Yelp
I was worried coming here because some of the reviews mention the noise. We were on floor 3 and we didn't have any problem with the noise. The night we checked in there was a wedding party downstairs at the bar and I got super nervous but we didn't hear them at all. Hotel is very cute and charming and all the staff we talked to were nice! They upgraded us for free which was awesome- can't ever complain about that! Great location!!!!! About 5 blocks from the Gondola, on the main street so there are shops, restaurants and bars all around. And you can see the mountains from the hotel! They have a roof top patio which was closed when we went (we were there in winter) but it looks like a really nice hang out! The room was spacious, the bathroom was really nicely upgraded and the closet was huge. We would stay here again!

Yelp
We booked a regular suite and got upgraded for a fairly nominal fee to the Ballard Suite. The pros: Location! Front and center to town. Perfect amount of space for our small family. The Ballard Suite has a large king bed facing West Colorado Ave with epic views of town and ski slopes. You can lay in bed and watch snow cats. There is a separate sitting area with a pull out couch for kids to sleep on. The bathroom is tight but well equipped and has fabulous heated floors. The staff is friendly and helpful. The room could use some updating but was spotless clean. Cons: parking. If you're tired parking on the street feels like a hassle and wish there were easier loading area. I thought it might be a problem but honestly it was easy. Just worth mentioning. The only real con is that it's an old hotel so if you are street facing it can be noisy and the walls are thin. BUT that's part of the charm. It's so rare that you can find a centrally located historic, beautiful old Western hotel that doesn't have some noise. If you're worried book an interior room. It's not a 5 star hotel and doesn't try to be, but is definitely a solid 4 with lots of charm. We loved our stay here and will stay again. And for the location the value is good!

Yelp
We were glad we had booked this hotel because it made a nice focal point for our short visit. Not only were the accommodations quite nice but they gave us a free parking pass for the nearby parking zone which allowed us to walk all day around town without ever needing to deal with our car until we were ready to leave the next day. We ate, shopped and slept within the historic district. Everyone at the hotel was ever so nice. Even though the coffee bar was closing for the day by the time we checked in, the manager made my husband a simple drink while he was packing up and it really refreshed his afternoon. It was really nice to do and a good espresso drink too. Our room was on the second floor and nicely decorated, comfy bed and linens, a nice sofa and a truly nice bathroom. We opted for the cheaper choice of no view but next time I think I would take the pricier one just to get a window that opened for a breeze. They have no AC, and usually just a slightly open window will give a very cool room. But it was truly unusually hot for Telluride and our window merely opened to a narrow air shaft between the two buildings so we faced a solid and warm brick wall 3 feet from the window and the room simply did not get as cool as we would have liked overnight. They had just opened a new rooftop bar which turned out to be a lot of fun. The view was great from there. Just like on an old-fashioned picture postcard (remember those?) of Telluride. They served bottled beer, wine and mixed drinks and a few small plates. The staff was fun. There is also a full service bar downstairs next to the main lobby as well as a Chop House Restaurant but we did not visit those.

Yelp
We had a far too short but incredible stay at the beautiful New Sheridan Hotel. The hotel has done an amazing job keeping things clean and safe, and the staff are incredibly accommodating and friendly. The hotel is gorgeous, and the attention to detail in each room is exquisite. The rooftop bar offers fantastic views and a lovely spot for a drink. The New Sheridan was by far the highlight of our entire road trip. We look forward to many more visits.

Yelp
I have a bit of an affection for this place as my girlfriend and I landed here spontaneously one night after a big hike. Not only did they give us a deal for the hell of it but we also had a most memorable time that night. Every time I return to this establishment I have had a good experience. From cocktails to steak dinners, I'm never disappointed. Thanks, New Sheridan Hotel.

Yelp
Almost perfect. Very nice Hotel. Rooms were clean and roomy. Our view was fantastic. Overlooking the town and great views of the ski runs coming down into Telluride. Very centrally located to everything. Quick check in and nicely updated. When things are this nice you tend to look for something to say that needs improvement. I have a couple of things which I feel would improve the experience. A fireplace in the rooms or even in a lounge area downstairs would've be nice. And a hot tub or spa. Cmon, every place, everywhere has a hot tub. After skiing, it just hits the spot. Not a deal breaker, but would have been icing on the cake. Staff was extremely nice and polite. Housekeeping was quick and efficient. The restaurant downstairs can get quite busy at times. (sometimes noisey) We didn't eat in the restaurant downstairs, so I can't comment on the food or service there. This was a winter stay, so no A/C needed and the heating was excellent and easily set. I understand there in no Air Conditioning available in the summer. Something to keep in mind. A five star experience.....I only left off one star for the hot tub and fireplace, which may not be everybody's thing. Maybe they'll work on that. Regardless, I would definitely return. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

Yelp
We pulled into town on a dark drizzly July night. The surrounding peaks, the mountain air, and the reflection of city lights on wet streets set the tone for a fairy tale. When we walked into the New Sheridan the experience was complete: It was magic. They have created that perfect blend of "exquisite" and "comfortable." The hotel has been artfully and faithfully restored. The lobby, restaurant and rooms are gorgeous. We also thoroughly enjoyed the cafe next door... The Phoenix Bean. It's under the same management and offers a simple, affordable and delicious menu of sandwiches, salads, smoothies, burgers, breakfasts and beverages. The hotel is central to Telluride and a couple short blocks from the free gondola that runs to the mountain top and down the other side. The New Sheridan is a perfect home base from which to explore this magical area. Definitely going back!!

Yelp
Yes!!!! They nailed it! Love coming across special places that just get it :) Karl at the front desk is stellar and the suite he recommended, with caution of course due to the wedding weekend festivities below, worked out great with a sound machine included. Fly fishing tips and great info on the historic hotel. This hotel had it all: well designed (I design hotels and wouldn't change a thing), staff staff and staff ALL smiles and willing to assist, location is perfect, rooftop hot tub under utilized and was very much enjoyed with crazy great views! The restaurant felt like home for breakfast and even dinner was incredible though I don't usually like to eat at the same place twice, this was a no brainer! Tall ceilings, gorgeous furniture, beaded board and subway tile details, 3 bar areas! Cozy, elegance that extended our stay from 1 night to 3! Will be back Sheridan and fam!

Matt B.

Yelp
Just wanted to update my review. Yes-they did comp the last night at the Hotel due to the noise and that was greatly appreciated. This is a great location and you cant beat it. The manager was pretty helpful but he admitted that the "owners were proud of the fact that they have the best restaurant and the best bar in town". The hotel fits in third-meaning that they are willing to sacrifice the hotel guests to keep their bar and restaurant top shelf. This is good to know and I am glad that they are transparent about it. I suggest you check with the hotel when (and if) you make reservations and see what is going on. If there is something big in town that night-stay somewhere else. If you can be assured of a quiet evening stay-then stay here. And if you do, make sure you have dinner in the restaurant because yes-it is the best in town.

Yelp
This place is a wonder! It really is the kind of place one should seek out. We pulled into Telluride, parked, walked down main street and sat down for a fantastic brunch! Sitting on the Parisian style Bistro patio the hubby had braised short rib Benedict, kids had thick cut bacon & eggs, and I sampled a pistachio crusted trout salad with poached egg. All while soaking up the sun and staring at the ski hill. Our server was awesome. He had both casual stoner and attentive fine dining working harmoniously! Highly recommended! Next time, we'll spend the night in the historic hotel.

Angela G.

Yelp
Had a great stay here and would definitely come back. The location is unbeatable, parking isn't too difficult, and the rooms are very large and updated. Very comfortable stay with a great staff that is always attentive and wanting to help. Ray went out of his way to help us get a table last night and his efforts were definitely above and beyond!

Yelp
LOVED this place. Awesome vibe inside and the bartender completely killed it... She easily served 50 people in the hour while we were there. I had the Dark and Stormy and was pleased that the size was 2x what I was expecting.

Yelp
This is the next best place to your buddy having a place in Mountain Village. Literally, my buddy had a place and sold it - unbelievable! Absolutely, perfect location; walk down the hill to the Gondola or Oak Street Lift, several great restaurants within blocks, and the best bar in town in the lobby. What really makes the place is the staff. Knowledgable, friendly, and incredibly accommodating. They recommended a place to get a new goggle lens, doc for torn knee, and specific libations to drowned our sorrows. The breakfast (20% off for guest) is fabulous. I would not stay anywhere else in T'ride, highly recommend the New Sheridan.

Yelp
I stayed here last week with my boyfriend and loved the whole experience. We called ahead of time to request a corner room because a friend of ours said the corner room offers the best view. The Conceirge confirmed that we would be staying in a corner room. When we arrived we were not in a corner room. We called downstairs and they were quick to help us. We were upgraded to a King Suite with a view of the main street and mountains for our entire stay at no extra cost! Talk about customer service!!! The hotel was recently remodeled and I fell in love with all the decor. It's so nice and cozy. The location is perfect!!!!!!! I loved spending the evening in the town and taking the gondola to Mountain Village for skiing and other activities during the day. Complementary shuttle to/from airport. Nice and quiet bar downstairs. Amazing restaurant (Chop House) and the bar next door is neat. Only negatives is its not pet friendly and no room service or spa. Other than that it's the perfect hotel!!! A++

Yelp
Staff is very friendly, happy to answer questions about stuff to do, and quite welcoming. Really appreciate that kind of attitude :) Our room (307) is really lovely with a great view of the Main Street and little bar noise. Shower was great, bed is comfy, we love the humidifier and it's really helping to make us feel comfortable. Love the old historical photos everywhere and the rooftop bar is a nice touch. Suggestions: in room coffee would be preferred so we don't have to look acceptable to go down to the main lobby (which is a busy restaurant in the morning) to get the complimentary stuff. Also there was no decaf this morning when my husband went down :/ Internet connection is terrible. I planned on getting some work done in my down time and couldn't use it much at all. Just a really poor, super slow connection at all times of the day and even late at night. I stuck with my phone's service. Really a bummer considering I never have this problem at hotels or even cheaper motels. Some more vegetarian and vegan options at the hotel restaurant would be great - there wasn't much I could eat there so we went elsewhere for our meals.

Yelp
If you've seen pictures of Telluride's main street, you've probably seen the Sheridan Hotel. We stayed here during Jazz Fest and loved being on main street, walkable to the festival, and able to enjoy all the shops and restaurants in town. The rooms are furnished to fit the historical theme of the hotel. The bed was very comfortable, but the head board reeked of Pine-sol pretty badly...maybe they had just finished a deep clean of the room? So why the four stars? The overnight staff turned their head when we snuck up to the hot tub after hours...that deserves an extra star in my book!
google avatar

Yelp
Stayed at the New Sheridan Hotel only once. It was a treat. Love the layout. Quaint but elegant room. My room was above the bar, so I could hear the crowd below. Not enough to keep me awake though. Another benefit, the New Sheridan Chop House is also located there. Best steak in town.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this place. The staff was so strange, they just didn't seem welcoming. They never did anything outright rude, but they just seemed standoffish and like they really didn't think we should be there. Definitely hard to describe . I'm guessing they thought we were really young or something. Or perhaps it is just the way they treat everyone . However aside from the staff I loved this place. It's been re done so beautifully. You can tell they put so much thought into decorating the rooms. Everything down to the drapes looked great. The room was also very large which was nice. The hotel is a very quick walk to the gondola and they provided you with a ski locker and boot drying racks so to never had to drag your skis upstairs. It's also right on the main street, you can walk pretty much anywhere in telluride. This does mean however that it can be noisy at night. The entrance to the Sheridan Opera House was right by our window and on two different nights the people attending the shows hung out drinking and talking under our window. I did discover ear plugs in the night stand drawer the last night we were there. We totally loved the roof top hot tubs. I discovered this week that you can sit in the hot tub forever when it's 15 degrees outside. I'd probably stay there again, I'm just hoping the staff was having an off week.

Scott K.

Yelp
We reserved a Suite and a second room on their opening day November 24, 2017 for my family of 6 adults. The service and hospitality at the New Sheridan was spectacular and the beds were wonderful. We did not partake in dinner there but the Brunch options were fantastic and the 20% discount helped on costs. The Old Fashioned at the New Sheridan bar was perfect, ask for the bartender choice Bourbon and enjoy a smooth local sip. PS take heed on their notice with the front facing rooms. Although it did not bother us an early to bed sleeper could be disturbed by the activity below. Thanks for the great time and we will see you next time.

Yelp
Amazing hotel! Friendly front desk, clean rooms and bathrooms...close to everything...restaurants, shops and gondola!! The Chop House restaurant on the first floor has the best breakfast in telluride ...I recommend the bennies, the monte cristo sandwich or the biscuits and gravy. As well as their coffee ...yummmm! Best part? It's a hotel with many many years of history ....when in Telluride, you must stop here and experience it!!
google avatar

Victor R.

Yelp
The strange thing about this hotel is it looks very different on the outside than the rooms do. It's a very "historic" lobby...cool, but you can tell it's old. The rooms have been updated (very nicely) to add conveniences like heated bathroom floors and nice accents. You'll still notice some of the hotel's age: no A/C, leaky windows, noisy hallways. In the winter, there's not much late-night street noise, so it didn't bother us. We only woke up once to shoveling at 6 am. But I could see why people wouldn't want to stay there in the summer, when you have to hear the bars close and people out late. But it's a great location to be central and explore Telluride, and I'd recommend it for at least a night...but get a room with a street view!

Edward B.

Yelp
Such a fun place and the location is perfect. Rooms nicely appointed and employees were very friendly. Thanks to Randle at the front bar, each morning he greeted us with a smile and always provided great service. I highly recommend visiting this hotel when in Telluride.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stayed here during the 2011 Telluride Wine festival and I was thoroughly impressed with how willing all of the staff were to go out of there way to take care of us. The hotel is beautiful and fit's in with (if not helps partly create) the character of the town. Lots of history, elegant but not "opulent" or over the top. The rooms are quaint but I'd recommend avoiding rooms on the front of the hotel overlooking the street. It can get rather noisy outside late at night (particularly notable on weekends or during big events) and the noise really carys. Fortunately, there were other rooms available during our stay. They courteously moved us to another room on the night we couldn't sleep then moved our things the next day with out hesitation. The rooms are comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful... I couldn't really have asked for more.

Yelp
Just returned from 8 days in Telluride and love it so much that a booked an additional night at the New Sheridan Hotel. Great spot with a very friendly staff who are committed to make your visit wonderful. Keep up the good work guys and we'll see you again in a couple of months.

Yelp
I am a Telluride local and Telluride is absolutely amazing but do not stay at the Sheridan unless you do not mind being treated according to how much you as are spending per night. I sat in the parlor today reading and drinking wine and was so thrown off by how loud and rude the concierge staff was when there weren't real guests present. At one point one of them said 'We are a 4 star hotel with 1 star service" and laughed. When I asked them to please keep it down, their first question was what room I'm in to determine if I was even a guest to care about. To be fair it is pretty and the bar staff is really nice.

Yelp
We stayed here for the past 3 nights and I just love this hotel!! This is a Telluride landmark! I love the decor in the room as well as all throughout the hotel! I love the photographs capturing the the hotel back in the day. We stayed on the 3rd floor, overlooking the main street. The fact that it had a king bed in one room and a couch with pull out bed in the other, made it perfect our two small boys. Every detail in the room was so tastefully done and bed was so comfy! Sure, things did get a little loud last night from bar below us (a Wednesday night), but to be expected for such a hot spot! Believe me, pre - kiddos, we would be down there with the rest of em. Hotel did supply white noise machine and ear plugs for such an event and we did have to break them out. Monday and Tuesday nights were not loud. But I'm sure as the week progresses things will be even more wild. Just maybe think about that when booking room, may want a room toward back of hotel if you're an early to turn-in type of person. Staff at the hotel all very nice:) I've read some people say hotel is haunted, I never had any incidents or felt strange during our stay. If there are 'ghosts' I would say they are friendly and welcoming, this place has positive energy:)

Yelp
You expect a little better amenities and accommodations, but it was still adequate and a good place to stay...close to a lot of fun places and...it's Telluride!

Yelp
I loved this place. Historic. Practical updates. Spacious rooms. Late night hot tubs on the roof. Brilliant experience all around. And reasonably priced.

What a fantastic experience I received here. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Room was perfect spot to relax after a day on the hills and in the bars. Mike at the front desk is the man and has the whole town wired for any tastes! Be sure to have dinner in the chop house at least one night.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at this historic hotel for 4 nights for our honeymoon last month. We had a great stay. All of the staff were professional, welcoming, and friendly. They had champagne on ice in our room waiting for us when we arrived, which was a welcome surprise. The room was nice and cozy, and the bed was extremely comfortable. We loved the history of the hotel and enjoyed looking at all of the historic photos throughout the hotel. The hotel is located in downtown Telluride, which makes it extremely convenient to walk to restaurants, shops, and the trails. We had cocktails and dinner in the parlor one evening, and it was excellent. We also had drinks on the rooftop bar a different evening, and it is a nice place to see the sun set over the mountains. Yes, there are a few things unique to staying in this historic hotel that you should know prior to staying (no A/C and it's downtown), but they have done their best to accommodate guests who might not be used to these things. For example, the windows in the rooms open, there are ceiling fans, and the room has a humidifier to make the rooms comfortable for guests. In addition, the rooms have white noise machines (and earplugs) to offset the street noise. Our stay at The New Sheridan Hotel was one of the nicest hotel stays that we have ever had. I highly recommend staying here if you are in Telluride!

Yelp
I want to echo Matt B.'s review from a month ago. The location of this hotel is phenomenal. The hotel, itself, the restaurant, and bar are all so rich in history and equally great in that respect. The hotel is a gem in the little town of Telluride, which makes it even that much more unfortunate that it's management runs it with so much disdain and disrespect for its guests. We stayed here for 4 nights in Room 203 and were awoken each and every night by extremely loud music at the bar below us at around 10pm, and the noise went on each and every night until 2am. We carefully reviewed and thought out our stay at the New Sheridan and were fully prepared to deal with a little bit of extra noise coming from patrons and street traffic below us, but not to this extent. Even in using the earplugs provided by the hotel, we could still hear the music from the bar along with the hooping and hollering of its customers for hours each night, so that should give you an idea of just how loud it was, not just for our room, but likely the entire east side of the hotel on the second floor. I'm actually shocked that the management of what should be such a prestigious hotel allows this to go on. Until this place figures out if they want to be a night club, a restaurant, or a hotel, I'd strongly advise against paying $200-$300 per night to stay here. There's an abundance of better lodging options in Telluride.

Yelp
We've been here for two days- it's below freezing and there is no hot water! All 2nd floor guests are sharing one bathroom in a vacant room... While in the heart of town and newly remodeled, this is making a relaxing vaca anything but... Totally unacceptable.

Yelp
Staff extremely friendly. Great location. Hot tub on the roof. Close to the gondola. Nice, large recently remodeled rooms with high-end bathroom fixtures. Kept the character of a old hotel with upgraded amenities. Off season price was very reasonable. Loved it and would defiinitely return.

Yelp
Loved this place....in the heart of Telluride! The Hotel was clean, the staff was helpful and everything was in walking distance. We went here in the summer, the only downsides are ......no AC (but the rooms has a good fan) and at night the people from the bar can get loud! But we were there to have a good time and I must say we did!

Yelp
You want to be in the middle of a picturesque, snow glove scene where everything is just a short walk away? You want to be treated by the best and most knowledgeable staff in Telluride? You want to dine next door in the best restaurant in the canyon? You want to be at the apex of nightlife in a ski town in winter, in a music and art mecca in off season? Stay here.

Yelp
This is a lovely, historic hotel in the center of town, and the staff is very helpful. I recommend it highly. My wife and I stayed here for two weeknights in June 2016. We paid over $200 for the room the first night, and over $300 the second night due to the Bluegrass Festival. It's expensive but I think it's worth it. The location is terrific, on the main street (Colorado St.) next to a town park and a landmark courthouse building. The bars and restaurant in the building are beautiful and popular. In all of the common spaces of the hotel, the decor is beautiful -- classic, classy and historic. Our room was in the rear of the building, overlooking a back alley and rear yards, so the view was not wonderful. The room itself was great, including a bathroom that had upscale fixtures. The paint scheme and artwork in the room was lovely. I am glad I stayed here and I would choose it again. The hotel staff helped me when I made a special request regarding parking, and I am very grateful. We checked out of the hotel on the first day of the Bluegrass Festival. We wanted to enjoy the festival and drive away, out of town that night. The hotel had given us a parking placard to place on our dashboard while we parked for free a few blocks away in town. Well, on our check-out day, we asked if we could keep the parking placard all day, and return it tho the hotel that night, allowing us to keep our car parked in town until the festival ended that night. This was a huge convenience for us, meaning we did not have to move the car to an outlying parking lot and use festival buses to get around. Thank you New Sheridan! You made our day a lot better.

Yelp
After spending a night in the amazingly awesome General Palmer Hotel in Durango ( HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS !!) we decided to try Telluride's version in the New Sheridan Hotel. Although the room was historically charming and spacious and the room amenities were pleasing (flat screen TVs, large bathroom, comfy beds), the noise from the New Sheridan bar downstairs was ridiculous! Raucous partying prevailed until well past 2am ( and this was on a Tuesday and Wednesday nite !!). Also, when maid service still hadn't "refreshed" our room by 3pm the next day and we inquired as to when they WOULD be cleaning the room, the hotel staff seemed to think we were pests for asking. We love Telluride, but next time we'll stay up at the Mountailn Village area and ride the gondolas down to have dinner and shop.

Yelp
A friend suggested that I stay at the New Sheridan, and I am very happy to have taken him up on his suggestion. My room was great, and lucky for me, one of the quiet ones. Totally agree that the beds are very comfortable, with great linens. Love the heated bathroom floors, and the spacious ski locker room. Bonus: the hotel has made arrangements for ski boot storage across the street from the gondola. Towels? Eh. Service from hotel staff? Double eh. They're sort of not clear on the concept. BUT the rest of the experience makes up for it, as the ambiance is wonderful, and the location really can't be beat.

Yelp
My husband and I just stayed at The New Sheridan for the last two days of our honeymoon and my normally critical partner kept saying things like "I really like this hotel," out of the blue. "Really like" is his 5-star review. He especially appreciated the restoration of the hotel -- how it felt old but updated at the same time. I appreciated the central location, the 20% discount off food at the Chop House, and the fact that they let us do a load of laundry in their washer and dryer so we could have fresh clothes when we got home. Plus, they provide a humidifier and a white noise machine in every room. In the high altitude the humidifier was incredibly helpful. We were debating between Lumiere and New Sheridan and I am SO glad we went with the New Sheridan!
