"A UK airport affected by the scanner setbacks, requiring adherence to the 100ml liquid rule."

The EU's New Carry-On Luggage Rules Start This Weekend—Here's What You Need to Know

Had a great experience at this airport. All staff are friendly. As you walk in the front doors, all the airline baggage areas are in front of you, so it's easy. Plenty of toilets were clean and tidy. Security was easy I visited in a quiet period but the fact theu have the new scanners which means no bagging of liquids and all that hassle made it so much easier to get my ten litres of perfume through. The waiting areas were clean and tidy with not too badly priced areas to eat.

Google
It's is small but quite well managed airport. Decent as well. Could still improve on cleanliness. Most importantly I have one question what is the point in starting boardings when you already know the take off is delayed due to bad weather in Amsterdam and bird near the runway of new castle. Could be better to do all that first and then start boarding.

Christopher Lawless

Google
This was once a great Airport its now a shadow of its former self. Parking absolute joke ref prices. I flew out to USA and was on the BA Redeye Shuttle down to LHR the MUSIC at 04:30 in morning was unbearable blaring out like a RAVE disgusting tables not clean windows absolute joke totally filthy whole place was just a bad experience. Not a calm Terminal at all. I only use it as its local to me. Its Longhaul flights are also very limited needs a direct JFK flight year round like EDI has.

I got to Newcastle airport at 5.45pm on Tuesday. Most of the retail outlets and restaurants airside were already closed. I thought that was quite early considering there were still 6 flights departing that evening. The bar, Boots, WHSmith and duty free were still open. Lots of seating areas were closed off while they were cleaning the floor. I would have thought they could do that at night. Anyway, at least security and boarding were very quick.

Google
It's really easy to navigate. The new scanners are great and really speed the security process up without if feeling compromised. Once you are through, there is a good selection of shops and bars. As with all airports, the prices are ridiculous, but they are there if you want them.

Google
Very easy experience at the airport. Security clearance was very quick and found the terminal to be very clean and tidy. The only thing that would make it better would be to bring back the viewing platform to see the aircraft.

Google
Nice airport, Clean & tidy, nice lounge once you get through security etc.

Google
This airport was miserable. They won't let you check in til 2 hours before your flight even though BA tells us to be 2.5-3 hours early. We were meant to check in at desks 20-22, the lady at desk 20, sitting under a BA screen, quite rudely told us she doesn't work for that airline and we'll just have to wait. Checking online, it also says desk 20 is for BA flights. There's nowhere to sit anywhere in this airport. You need to wait an hour to check in? You can sit on the floor. Once you're through security you have to walk through a giant store full of nasty perfumes, I hope you don't have an allergy. Then you get in the airport and it's not easy to find where the gates are - but who cares because your gate isn't posted for an hour. Instead of places to sit throughout the airport, there are stores. You want to sit? You better pay £20 for a coke and ham sandwich. There are no drinking fountains, way too few toilets. This airport sucks. I'll be glad to never come through here again.

Yelp
I'll be the first to admit I'm not a seasoned flyer but I really like Newcastle airport. First of all I love the fact it is so easily accessible by metro and on arrival it's also not too big or confusing so has a more cosy feel to it (as much as airports can)! I've never once been stuck queueing for security checks and all the staff are very friendly. Once I was flying solo for my birthday and I was given a free drink in duty free and another time upon checking my passport I was asked how my holiday had been which you clearly don't get at other airports. As for the facilities it has everything you need albeit seating depends on when in the day you are flying. Some of the catering options aren't to be desired but there is at least the choice and certainly you can find somewhere to have a drink if like me you need it to settle your nerves. As mentioned in previous reviews the only slight annoyance is everyone is kept like cattle in one area whilst waiting for a gate to be assigned to the flight which then results in a mad rush as the board is updated! But still I love this airport-maybe I'm biased as I love Newcastle as a whole!

Yelp
We have used Newcastle Airport twice now and each time we have found it so easy and stress free to check in, the staff are helpful and always friendly. The departure lounge was nice and clean

Max D.

Yelp
This is a very nice airport... this is small but pretty efficient. the check in process is pretty straightforward you don't need passport to show all over the place , just at checkin....very automated. a good selection of restaurants inside the main area and a good gift shops

Karen P.

Yelp
Decent airport flying internationally, with more flights to various destinations being added. Recently flights to Mexico and America have started. The airport is a good size with plenty of parking. If you look on line you can get plenty of deals if you need to leave your car for any length of time. There are plenty of bars through security if you get thirsty. Various shops with a good selection of duty free.

Derrick D.

Yelp
First off, it is super convenient to have the metro go straight into the airport. That is always a pleasant feature, and as a result it only costs 2 pounds 90 to get from the Newcastle city centre to the airport. The check in areas can be somewhat confusing. There are a lot of airlines that fly into and out of NCL, and the check in counters are small and narrow. And, (I know this isn't the airport's fault) all the workers for the low cost airlines are contracted out to ServisAir, so you're never talking to a real employee. The staff's friendly, including the people working security. Totally opposite of the damn TSA here in the States. They even saw my passport and struck up a conversation. I was happy to converse back. =) I guess I was somewhat confused, but are all airports like rail stations? I couldn't find out which gate my flight was departing from, only to realize that my flight DIDN'T have a gate, and you sit there in the waiting area until one is assigned (like the train station). I spend most my time in airports, so you can imagine my frustration. The airport is nice, clean, and signs are clearly marked.

Eden B.

Yelp
I prefer flying out of this airport, as opposed to going to a larger international hub. It's easy to get around and there are lots of shopping and dining options. No hassles. The Nexus metro stops inside of the airport and can take you anywhere in the Tyne & Wear area that you need to go. They also offer complimentary luggage carts to use, which is nice.

Hannah M.

Yelp
I've flown from (I'm taking a pretty good guess here) eight airports in the country now, Newcastle twice, it's okay, but pretty average. Shopping isn't great, and there's no real variation at all if you want to eat or drink before you fly. I know it's a smaller airport, but the seating that isn't linked to an eatery is pretty limited, and the toilets, that lets be honest, pretty much everyone who isn't attempting to join the mile high club goes to these rather than the ones on the plane if they can avoid it, were a bit grim. This was the same on two occasions spread years apart, so I can be pretty confident that this is just the way it is! Sorry guys!

Reid P.

Yelp
Security seems on point and plenty of duty free shops with WHSmith stores staying open all day, Small airport which is kept in rather good condition, surprisingly it is rather easy to navigate and I prefer it to larger international airports.

Kim H.

Yelp
Nice little airport this, when I say little that's just a figure of speech. From when I 1st used it back in the mid 90's it's grown considerably. Free wifi in the departure lounges & reasonably priced duty free not that I think we get much of that these days. As a local airport it's about as good as it gets in the north east. Just waiting for my holiday flight to dalaman! Oh & this week the airport is 75 years old.

Qype User (alton…)

Yelp
I have travelled from Newcastle airport many times and i have to say it is a super airport. I have had delays on a few parts of my holidays but i have never had a problem at this airport. My flights have always departed on time (some were even early) and my baggage has never been lost from here. There are some nice cafes in the departure lounge and a couple of duty free shops with some bargains!

Ruby F.

Yelp
Staff are always very helpful and understand that people are sometimes in a hurry. A great selection of food to choose from, including vegetarian options!

Qype User (sharna…)

Yelp
This is a great airport, it is easy to get too there is never much traffic to get into it and the weekly parking for the car park is reasonable though it gets a little expensive to pick people up. Downstairs there is a w h smiths and a coffer shop the check in desks are well signs and there are plenty of trolleys around. Upstairs there is a little cafe and nice clean toilets. The departure lounge is spacious with several places to eat and lots of seats to hang around there are several shops and a place you can get your nails done while you are waiting to leave They dont go direct to some places yet and the airport is nowhere near as big as manchester but the flights tend to be cheap and it is nowhere near as busy

Abhi K.

Yelp
Decent size hotel with a lot of budget airlines operating. Very good transport (metro) to the city but the annoying thing is that there are no coin machines, so you got to take your coins well in advance to purchase the tickets...

Qype User (souths…)

Yelp
great place to fly into! Got a greggs and starbucks so if you are rich or poor you can get a coffee!!!

Qype User (Rupert…)

Yelp
Has all the usual "Duty Free" shops including a Crocs store. Plenty of coffee shops and fast food kiosks. Most are quite expensive, as one might imagine, but no worse than other regional airports in the UK. Pleasant enough surroundings but the information screens in the departure lounge are haphazardly placed and there never seems to be enough seating. Again, neither faults unique to this airport. Really good transport links to Newcastle by metro and a relatively short taxi ride to most central locations.

Qype User (pinkfi…)

Yelp
A pleasant enough airport, it's light and bright and has all you need to pass a couple of hours. It has the usual stores ie WH Smiths, boots, accesorize etc but a good duty free store too. For a regional airport it's good. Great links to the city centre too, just 25 minutes on the metro. Only negative is that if it was busy there wouldn't be much space it would be full very quickly.

Kiara M.

Yelp
The staff are incredibly unhelpful and can be quite rude! There have been a few times I have waited until the last minute for our flight to appear on the board to tell us what gate we are at - even thought it states the flight is on time. Then when we arrived at the gate, somewhat out of breath, the staff have scolded us for being late - when everyone else was late because of a technical error also!

Qype User (blondi…)

Yelp
great airport - i have never had any problems with check in or baggage reclaim, flights have always been on time and the staff are super friendly this airport may be small but its very efficient!

Qype User (charle…)

Yelp
I always fly to Malaga from here about four times a year, as it is only an hour from Carlisle. It is very easy to drive to and the parking is fab. I use the one next door that drives you in a little mini bus and picks me up when I land. The airport is not too big and the main area where you can get food is comfy to wait for the plane. I love to gt some duty free and often find there's a lot of great deals on perfume and alcohol. It has a decent bar and the restaurant serves nice food that isn't too expensive although I often take sandwiches and just buy a coffee. The toilets are always very clean and check in is really quick, leaving loads of time to relax whilst waiting for the plane.

Qype User (sparky…)

Yelp
This is a half decent airport though parking is a tad expensive you can prebook. You dont get a lot of drop off and pick up time if you are going for someone. They have the usual coffee shops, whsmith places downstairs with check in - check in is usually quick. The place is terrible though for you being acosted to sign up for things so avoid the people with clipboards hanging around. When you go to the departure lounge there is a bar and a cafe with a burger king. They have a couple of good shops with a nice boots for last minute purchases. The toilets are plentiful indside and out of the departure lounge they are upstairs. If you live near a metro and have a suitcase on wheels the cheapest way to get gere is to take the metro

Qype User (amyxo…)

Yelp
The airport is right of the city and to the North. It can be accessed by the metro and the buses, also there are taxi's but sometimes these can be expensive. The airport itself has a lot to offer but still a lot to be desired. It has a wh smith and a starbucks before going through passport control which means while waiting on someone to return or for check in to open you have somewhere to keep yourself occupied. Through passport control there is a large food court and some shops including duty free. Unfortunately this is very expensive! In my own experience having flew from Newcastle a number of times I have never had any problems but I think it depends on when you're flying as i've only ever flew early morning.

Qype User (IMPETI…)

Yelp
If you don't drive you can get a Metro so access is'nt a problem as the airports tucked away outside the city near Ponteland. It's rather small compared to some but it has everything you could want.Plenty shops and places to grab a snack.Good size departure lounge. We've never ever had any problems flying from here.

Qype User (Kather…)

Yelp
Newcastle airport is a great airport and very easy access to get to it. I have flown for years out of this airport, but recently it has been extended and is now very modern and looks classy. The prices inside the airport for food are very expensive but i did find that the bar wasnt too pricey. The toilets are huge and very nice and clean. I have never had too many problems with this airport although quite afew delays over the years can be frustrating especially for the elderly or people with small children, i dont think this reflects on the airport though, as this happens in most airports. A nice local airport for us northerners.

Qype User (rtpic…)

Yelp
This is my local airport so over the years I've used it quite a bit. It's a good airport, not too big but big enough for everything you need from an airport. There are plenty of things to occupy you if your flights delayed. The only thing to be aware of is if you're droping someone off at the airport the drop off time has been rediced to 5 minutes so if it's busy with traffic this can be a bit tight.

Qype User (layers…)

Yelp
Tucked out of the way yet still easy enough to get to, Newcastle airport is quite small with a simple layout. You will not have to walk miles upon miles from getting your caffeine fix to boarding your flight. There are your usual airport shops such as duty free, Boots and Starbucks and there is a nail bar too. It's pretty standard as far as airports go but I'm giving it 4 stars for the simplicity of it all. If you get lost here then I think you have navigational problems.

Qype User (heyya1…)

Yelp
On 3 March 2008 my son and I returned to Newcastle from Tenerife. On our arrival at baggage collection, the carousel had not started. We waited, and waited, and waited. We had landed at 2020 but after an hour there was still no activity. Nobody was available to ask the reason for this long delay. Then the closed sign was displayed on the monitor above the carousel. Eventually a young man came but all he was able to say was that there was a meeting to try to get estimates which was no answer at all to our need for a reason. Passengers, some of whom had young children, were beginning to become irate (understandably after the flight). Many of us had arranged to be collected by family or friends who had to pay for parking. I asked for a form to complete so that I could leave and have my luggage delivered to my home address but this was not given. One man did manage to do this but said that he was told not to tell the other passengers. We did eventually get our luggage (mine arrived at 2150) but I would like to know why, if there was a problem, we were not told immediately on arrival. Why were we left waiting and tired and angry?

Qype User (natash…)

Yelp
Excellent airport, never had any problems at checkin, 9 times out of 10 we have had no que when we arrived.

Qype User (3kebab…)

Yelp
Great airport, good road links from A1.Increasing destinations all the time. Now has links worldwide through Emirates who fly from here a number of scheduled flights per day to Dubai.Good facilities.Always easy to get a taxi.

Qype User (Lizzy0…)

Yelp
As my local airport newcaslte is one of the only I have ever used. great place to fly from, good selection of shops too look around and reasonably priced food and drink.

Yelp
Newcastle Airport is one of the best airports in the Upper part of the UK. In 2003 it had an expantion on the terminal building, which was finished in mid 2004 for passengers to pass through each day. The newly built departure lounge had one or two eateries and a bar, it also had a Dixons and Boots. They all still remain, but now with the new Duty Free Biza spreading across the departure lounges floor, there is a verirty of products to buy. Downstairs in the Check-in hall is very spacious and tall. You often see the odd helium balloon floating about from a party of girls going away for a hen night. It has 48 Check -in desks spreading from the older side of the teminal to the more modernised side. In the Summer season it is busstling with holiday makers queing for check-in. It normaly take about 20-30 minutes to get checked in on a busy day. For people comming to drop off/pick up anyone, make sure you time it right as the waiting time cost ALOT. The long term parking is still quite expensive. But if you are parcked in the pick up drop off zone and are parcked for 2 hours the long term car park works out to be cheaper. Newcastle the '101' bus service by arriva opperation every 10-15 minutes takeing you in to the heart of kingston park, through cramlington then to Blyth. Newcastle Airport is currently having a Hotel built out side the terminal and also a small Petrol station. Plane spotters are now in luck with the development of the south side of the airfiled as they are trasforming it back in to what it was like in the 30's with a Aircraft veiwing area and also a cafe.Newcastle Airports security board recently invested in a full body sanner so nothing can be smuggled on the the planes such as bombs or illegal drugs, this machine will only be used in neccessary occasions. The Airport Police do regular partols around the terminal armed with tazzers and Kuggers. So in conclusion Newcastle International Aiport is a Great airport wich offer alot of holiday and domestic destonations and tight security team.

Yelp
could be a great little airport, but it isnt. Passenger safety is NOT a priority. The electronic security doors exiting the baggage reclaim area are potentially dangerous to passengers. 9 Weeks Ago my Wife & myself were returning from holiday, when one of these doors slammed into her, severely bruising her down one side of her body (this required medical treatment) A subsequent formal letter of complaint sent to the terminal operations manager prompted only an acknowledgement, promising a full reply in due course. This never materialised, which probably graphically demonstrates the airport managements attitude to the safety of its service users.Unfortunately, I am committed to 2 further flights from Newcastle during this year, but following these, Newcastle airport will not be seeing my wife and myself as customers again, nor will they be getting any recommendations from me to friends, family, neighbours etc Next year and onwards, my bookings will be going to Manchester Airport, It will be worth the extra 1 Hour`s drive to use an airport where the service users are treated with respect in a safe environment.----Well done Newcastle, an absolutely textbook case of negative Customer Relations.

Qype User (golden…)

Yelp
Newcastle airport is not far from Newcastle city centre only 20 minutes via metro. The airport is situated near Pontaland and Kingston park. The airport is fairly modern and terminal is pleasant and bright. There is a large check in area. Newcastle airport is international so it serves not just Europe, flights go to Dubai and New york ( seasonal) and Australia. However some of the security staff are not very pleasant however that goes for most airports. Shopping is average at best there is a fairly large duty free shop. However prices are extortionate. In conclusion i would reccomend!

V T.

Yelp
I travel through newcastle a lot, a recent problem was my bg was damaged at security, they unzipped my HND luggage to remove some headphone and re screen my bag, however they jammed the zip on doing this so the bag could not be reopened, I complained an they looked at the video footage, they agreed this was damaged however said they could not help me, I had to carry my belonging that we're removed as the bag was broken, what I was disgusted at was the lack of care or customer service and the dismissive emails that stated they agree the problem occurred but were not going to replace my bag.

Qype User (Kaem…)

Yelp
I travel through Newcastle International Airport at least twice per month, and I choose to use Newcastle as it is run very efficiently. The airport rarely has delays and bags are handled promptly. There is only a relatively small duty free airside, and a few little shops and a food court with a Burger King. There is a small bar as well as pay per use computer terminals for checking emails etc. The airport is a fairly modern building, however is starting to look a little worn simply due to the volume of traffic. The departure lounges are basic but always clean. The downside to Newcastle Airport is the way the airplane parking is laid out, you almost always have to get a bus to the terminal which seems to take longer to arrive than the actual plane flight! Being a regional airport there are not as many destinations as served by the bigger airports in the South, however the flights are cheaper because of this.

Qype User (mohanl…)

Yelp
As far as airports that aren't in London go, this is quite a damned good one. Friendly staff, unless you happen to get the angry customs officer, but that can happen anywhere, and quite a few places to keep you busy while you wait (dixons tax free, a few duty free shops, a games arcade, computers with internet, a few fast food places and a couple of bars.) Oh yeah, and the all important Boots. Lots of flights to and from, with easyjet and ryanair flying from it, so you can grab a bargain!
