The New Business Traveler: Camp Yoshi's Rashad Frazier on Making the Most of a Scouting Trip to Tanzania

"The next day, we stayed at the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge where we saw all kinds of animals: lions and elephants and wildebeests and—what are the creepy-looking dogs? Hyenas!"

Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

"Clinging to the rim of Ngorongoro Crater, this visually-stunning resort was built from local river stones covered in thick vines. Every room has its own private balcony with sweeping views. Game drives, nature walks, and nightly Masai dances leave little to be desired for a luxurious safari experience."

This is an amazing lodge with spectacular views of the crater. The lodge itself is lovely. The rooms are very spacious, we had a connecting family room with our two teens and it was perfect. The rooms are more luxurious than they appear in the pictures. In fact the photos don’t do the lodge justice at all. And the location is simply amazing. It’s also convenient, close to the crater entrance and the descent road. The food was very good, some of the best we had in Tanzania. The service from all the team was also excellent. Yes it’s a large busy lodge, not a secluded quiet camp, so if this is what you want look elsewhere. However for a comfortable safe stay, particularly with children, with great food and wonderful views of the crater you won’t beat it. Probably the most spectacular location we’ve ever stayed!

Stunning views from our room and the whole hotel! Rooms are a little on the small side but are very clean and the bathroom is well supplied. The highlight of our stay was the Maasai Music and Acrobatic show prior to our evening meal. These guys were fantastic. The food for the evening meal was very tasty -- the fish that I had was fresh and cooked just right. The dessert and salad bars were varied and abundant. It is a bit on the cool side in June so they even supplied a hot water bottle in bed to warm it up! Very unique build with the river rocks!

You will be harder pressed to find a more spectacular view from your room ANYWHERE in the world - and the food, the people, and the location are simply amazing too. It's one heck of a drive to get up there, but once you do you will not be disappointed. Very happy.

We stayed at the Ngorongoro Serena Lodge and were truly impressed. The hotel itself is outstanding — beautifully designed with stone and wood, blending perfectly into the natural surroundings. The service was excellent, and the view was the best we’ve ever had, especially during the breathtaking sunrise. Every part of the experience felt deeply connected to nature.||We also visited the shop at the hotel and purchased stunning Tanzanite stones. Ms. Bernadetha Erasto gave us exceptional service and helped us choose the perfect pieces. The prices were fair, and the overall experience was just amazing. Highly recommended!

This was probably one of the most unique places I've ever stayed and I mean this in the best possible way! It was at the top of the Ngorongoro Crater with AMAZING views of the crater as well as just being all the way around unique. The whole thing was set in the trees so you were very much in the wilderness. The rooms had outside hallways but it felt cave like. All of the doors had carvings and were one of several different designs and the rooms had a small balcony with chairs overlooking the crater. Bathroom was a good size with 2 sinks and the shower in a separate room. My room that i shared with my elderly mother had a king bed and a single bed in it. not sure if that's the configuration for all of them though. |There was a large balcony all the way around the side of the main building (dining area) which had more amazing views. The dining room and lounge were probably my favorite though because it was again set up to look like you were in a cave with cave drawings on the walls and wood beams. The food was incredible. Dinner was half buffet and half menu ordering (it was included in our package but I'm not sure if that's standard). So you ordered your main course and it came with a side but the buffet was soups, salads, desserts, breads, and a create your own pasta station. Breakfast was full buffet with many different choices and a create your own omelet bar but they had a lot of different choices of fruits, breads, salads, and juices among other things. They also packed us a bush lunch for the next day which was pretty standard but LOTS of food and really good as well. Overall the food was excellent. No complaints|I wish we had been there more than one night because I would have loved to explore more but it was a really great location and I highly recommend.

A pleasant hotel with wonderful views of the Ngorongoro Crater from the rooms. The main advantage of the hotel is its location right on the crater rim. In the mornings and evenings, I enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset over the crater floor. Keep in mind that due to the high elevation (2,326 meters), evenings and nights are cold. However, the room stays warm, especially under the thick blanket. The room itself was cozy, with walls painted to resemble ancient rock art. There was an excellent hot shower, an electric kettle, and some light snacks provided. The dining area offers a buffet, and the food is good. The only drawback is that the hotel is quite large, so there are many guests everywhere.

Incredible stay with the Courage Founders visit. The property is beautiful and integrated with nature on the crater rim. Incredible views, excellent service, delicious food, comfortable beds, overall fantastic experience and would definitely recommend staying to begin and end your days exploring the crater.

Serena is very close to both the entrance and exit of the Ngorongoro Crater Valley. Every room in the hotel has a view of Lake Magadi. Its price is relatively economical among the hotels on the crater rim, but it has a large number of guests, average dinner service experience, and smaller rooms. However, if you have a limited budget for the crater area, I recommend staying at this hotel.
