When you're tired of bar-hopping to eat pintxos and want a proper sit-down meal, this is an excellent choice and will give you a great tasting menu + wine pairing that won't break the bank. Make a reservation ahead of time - we were able to make one a day in advance for lunch, but I recommend making a reservation at least a week in advance to make sure you get a spot.
With a 6 course tasting menu set at 38€, plus 9€ or so for wine pairing, this is a phenomenal deal. The dishes are generous in size, and the wine pours are also generous - we went home feeling quite full, tipsy, and happy. The restaurant is clean, modern. is well situated in the city and easy to get to, and has a beautiful view of the water.
Here's the 6 course tasting menu that we got.
Ensalada de bacalao - This particular dish was good but not particularly memorable. It was a cold dish with cod but to be honest, wasn't a standout amongst the other dishes.
Gyozas de txangurro con caldo - You'll get 2 gyzoas filled with crab, and with some broth. Definitely unique and tasty, but not a standout amongst the other main dishes.
Merluza Asada - I really liked this fish - the texture was great, and the fish was fresh. It wasn't overpowered with sauces or butter so you could really taste the simplicity and freshness of the fish.
Cordero Asado y Deshuesado - I normally hate lamb, but this is the best lamb dish I've ever had and I loved every bite of it. It was tender, the meat was falling apart, and the outside was perfectly caramelized. I was sad when I finished eating this dish, it was delicious.
Torreja Caramelizada - This is like a cross between French toast and bread pudding, and it was perfectly caramelized. It paired perfectly with the armagnac ice cream. I was full but I would have kept eating more of this dessert if it was in front of me.
Merengue de Cafe - I love desserts, so when this second dessert came out, I was excited because you can never have enough dessert. I was stuffed and drunk from all the other courses + wine pairing, but I finished all of this. There were so many textures between the merengue, the coffee ice cream, or the crumbly chocolate base.
Overall, I loved the lamb dish the most even though this was the one dish I didn't think I was going to like. The fish and the desserts were also excellent, and the wine pairing was enough to get both of us nice and toasty for the afternoon. We were quite content when we finished this delicious and filling meal. Definitely a great deal for 6 courses and worth the 9€ for the wine pairing. I'd definitely come back here again and recommend to anyone coming to San Sebastian that wants a sit-down lunch or dinner experience.
