Yet again, Nick's Shoe Repair has come thru for me. This time from afar. I have two pair of Tommy Bahama sandals that I cherish. About 18 months ago, the soles on both began to disintegrate. (On close inspection, the hard plastic soles on these designer sandals looked "cheap" and unworthy of their high price.) Nick successfully resoled both pair with Vibram soles (the kind on most hiking boots) and made them look & function better than the originals. Fast forward to a month ago, and I discovered that the leather toe thong on one sandal had frayed. In the ensuing period since he had last worked on them, we had moved 500 miles away (to Oregon). Rather than entrust the needed repair to a new, local shop, I decided to call Nick in San Ramon. Nick answered the phone and was quite accommodating. "Yes, ship them on down and we'll fix 'em." I shipped the sandals in need of repair from Corvallis, OR on 15 December, and they arrived back to me on 14 January. As with the resoling, Nick's repair was better than the original!
Lastly, I feel compelled to speak out regarding some of the overly negative reviews posted. I have learned (often the hard way) there are two sides to every story. Nick has chosen not to reply to his reviews, positive or negative, which is his right. However, the vicious comments such as, he ruined my designer hand bag or priceless shoes would seem to me to be over-reactions. I have used Nick for over 10 years and his work has always been spot-on. I've taken items to him to which he has told me, "there's not a lot I can do for this, but I'll give it a try, if you'd like me to." In short, his majority 4-5 star reviews IMHO speak a lot louder than the few descriptions of horrendous experiences.
