Nielsen Park

Nice spot to swim. Netted area so safer? Lots of people around on weekday; super crowded on weekends. The lack of seating in the shade has to be seen to be believed. Maybe it was assumed visitors only came to swim. So lunch means sitting on the ground/grass; no benches in shady areas or in general for that matter.

It’s a fantastic park, and beach and also a really good cafe. The shark net is not working on one end but there’s a lot of other people that could be eaten first! Great area for picnic, barbecues or just sitting on the steps in the sun. Loads of space to boats and kayaks. There’s a bus straight down there to the door as well.

Nielsen Park is an excellent start to a lovely walk along the harbour. The cafe is busy but fairly efficient and the long awaited sea wall is an agreeable place to sit and watch the boats go by. We were very surprised by the number of signs along the walk from National Parks that said "Trees at this site have been illegally poisoned". The residents do seem to be at war with nature.

Spectacular beach, one of the best spots to spend a beach day in Sydney (if not the world.) It's not a surf beach as it's on the harbour and has the protective shark net for peace of mind. Highly recommended!

Located at 6 Steele Point Road, Vaucluse, New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺. This is a wonderful park located directly facing the Sydney Harbour. It runs onto Shark Beach and gives a really protected place to swim. There’s fantastic shower amenities available for changing before and after a swim and plenty of places to sit and relax. I would’ve liked to see more tables/chairs and possibly BBQ’s. There’s a really pretty walkway that winds around the park. The canopy of beautiful old trees 🌲 makes the park so beautiful and creates protection from the sun. It’s a very wheelchair accessible park. There’s plenty of parking 🅿️ at the entrance to the park. I loved the shelving steps that face the beach. A good place to sit and watch the water or friends/family swimming. It’s a fantastic place to swim, the water is so clear and you are protected by the shark net. There’s great toilets facilities including disabled toilets. We came on a week day so there wasn’t really a lot of people but I imagine on the weekends or during holidays it would be packed. I had a fantastic day and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Neilsen Park. Thumbs up!!! 👍👍👍

Offering a peaceful escape with its beautiful beach, crystal-clear waters, and shady picnic spots. It’s perfect for taking a scenic walk along the coastline. The park is also close to Milk Beach and Shark Beach, making it easy to explore more stunning spots nearby. The views are breathtaking, and even though it can get busy on weekends, the relaxed vibe makes it a perfect spot to enjoy nature and unwind. A must-visit for a tranquil day out!

The views from this park are spectacular. Beautiful park and place for a harbour swim. Lots of families enjoying a day out. Awesome little beach. Very picturesque. Beautiful walk, stunning views and interesting landscapes. Pleasantly quiet and many Bays to visit. Nice place to watch the boats go by. Water looked inviting and clean - but too cold at this time of year for me!

This is such a great location for a sunny day! It's by a smaller beach and also has a cafe nearby. There is free parking available close by also and a bus stop which makes it more convenient. Absolutely beautiful, would recommend for a picnic or a swim in the summer!

This has to be one of my favourite beach parks in Sydney. Tucked away in the back of Vaucluse this is a hidden gem. The park is gated by enormous trees and only once you're a good couple of hundred meters inside do you get to the beach. The park is a great area for picnics with lots of space and shade. There are also lots of walks that you can take from Nielson Park which offer spectacular views of Sydney Harbour. The best in my mind is the 3km Harbour Foreshore walk, which is stunning at any time but particularly in the morning. The beach is just beautiful - white sand and crystal clear blue water. Unlike some of the smaller harbour beaches this beach seems to remain pretty clear of washed up rubbish from boats. There is also a netted swimming area, which is great for anybody who is reluctant to do laps in the ocean for fear of sharks!!

Nielsen Park and Shark Bay are such seminal parts of Sydney for me. A harbour that has crystal clear water and a mix of bush and beach all in the one area, and for a suburb of Sydney to still have a little kiosk I just love it. This park is popular on hot days, and I can see why, there seems to be a kids and and a hipster end. Nice eye candy here too...

One of our favourite Sydney parks and great cafe. Get there early as parking is at a premium
