This hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Hanahan is widely considered to be a Charleston classic, and it lives up to at least the hole-in-the-wall aspect in that it's a dimly-lit, almost small-cafeteria-like setting. The food, though, is a different story.
I will begin by saying that it's difficult to give an accurate opinion of Nigel's because they were out of quite a bit of food on the night I went -- the Geechie wings, notably, which I'd very much wanted to give a go. The server was quite friendly about this, though, and offered insight to the alternatives.
The plate I got consisted of country fried steak, mac 'n cheese, cornbread, collard greens, and I also tried the fried tomatoes as an alternative appetizer (which were the best of all these -- fried to perfection).
I found the mac 'n cheese somewhat and cornbread to be very dry which was disappointing. Notably, it seemed that many of the tables left barely-eaten cornbread on their plates for the servers to pick up. Not my favorite collard greens either --- the juice just had a peculiar taste to it.
I will be back to try these Geechie wings and possibly some other sides. Will leave an updated review once I do.
