Warm and cozy hostel, owners were nice and really helpful!! Really no complaints on service :) There is 1 morning/evening shuttle service to and fro town, although the timing is abit off for me (9am and 5pm). There is only 1 shared shower, so might need to wait awhile. Living room is nice place to chit chat and hang out. The most important factor for me was the convenience or rather location, which I found lacking here. If you want easy access to shuttle buses, shops or the train station, would be best to stay nearer town, especially since the hostel is a good 15 minutes walk away.

Nikko Park Lodge and Ken are really welcoming hosts! I wasn’t able to stay at the lodge, but I stopped over for dinner a number of times. The chef serves up delicious meals at good prices. Also, you can enjoy drinks in front of the warm fire. It is a good idea to make a reservation in advance. The lodge is right in the middle of nature, with a beautiful stream and waterfalls, just a few minutes away. I highly recommend staying there or stopping for a meal.

The beds were comfy and the whole property had a really cosy vibe. Heated blankets and towels were provided. A few of the facilities were a bit dated and in dire need of renovations. It felt like the men's toilet would fall through the floor at any second. The shower room was a bit strange too, being an open communal style wash room. Although I'm not sure if they actually use it like that(?) There was free coffee and on my last day I found out that there was a free shuttle to town each morning. The location was nice and chill but about a 25-30 minute walk to get anywhere.

Had a lovely time staying three nights here. Beds were comfy and the hosts were so nice. It was the perfect spot to stay for a great few days hiking in beautiful Nikko. It’s a little out of the way - around a 15 minute walk from the station - but the walk was so nice that it didn’t make a difference (plus the fact that they run a shuttle to and from the station). Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a homely and good value base for exploring the incredible park.

Kindest people !! The owners are lovely, definitely made our stay memorable. We asked for few different favors and they were happy to help. The owner also gave us a few lifts to Nikko station and to Kirifuri waterfalls which was very convenient for us. The hostel itself is old but nice and cozy. There is no option to cook but a buffet in a reasonable price is offered and great food. Also you can buy some snacks and beers and wine if you like. Location is about 15-20 minutes from Nikko station, depending on your pace. A bit uphill to the hostel from the station but nothing serious. The price is very much affordable and I found the value for money very good. Highly recommended!! Enjoy 😄

It's around 20 mins to 25 mins walk up hills. We found it a bit too far so we took a cab every night from the station which only cost 700yen to 800yen which I think is worth it after a long day exploring Nikko.. They change the bins and our towels everyday which is nice. The bed is comfortable. The toilet is on the smaller side. The owner was nice.

Had a lovely time staying 1 night here. Be aware the hostel is located around 20min walk from the train station, which I absolutely loved because it was surrounded by beautiful forest, but if you are not a big walker or have a lot of luggage it might be a bit far. I also took a taxi from the train station and it cost 700 yen. The lady who ran it was super lovely and the place was very clean. There is an awesome shower room as well with a stone tub which I never used but it looked cool. I stayed in the mixed dorm and had a very positive experience, there are lockers to lock up your personal items but everyone I met was super nice and respectful. I chose it for the price and location and was pleasantly surprised :).

In regards to the premises of Nikko Park Lodge Mountainside, it was not of any sound standard at all given the cost they fraudulently charged. We had to leave the venue immediately due to health and safety concerns; the main concern being that there was a smell of butane or kersosene throughout the place. ||||The dusty, unclean bedroom was virtually impossible to move around in given the size of the beds that were completely wrong for the size of the room thus making it even the more the dangerous. The bathroom wasn’t well maintained either, it was liken to one would find on a construction site. You have to step into over a nearly one foot high lip through the doorway.||||When we asked to have a taxi to be called for, the management flatly refused to oblige. We kept asking for a taxi so we could leave, but the management continued to refuse even after 8 times of requesting a taxi to be called. This made us felt further unsafe thus began fervently demanding for one to the point almost yelling. Even when I tried to take the luggage outside to begin walking back down the hill towards the downtown are, I was stopped physically. Not asked politely to stop, instead I was almost pushed over with the luggage pushed away from me. After this shocking incident, my mother explained for the third and final time why we wanted to leave. ||||The point is, regardless of the reasons, it is our prerogative to do so as it is of anyone who chooses to do so. Yet they kept trying to prevent us in just doing that. Until finally, who I suspect to be the actual owner of the premises (a non-Japanese), grudgingly agreed to drive us back to the train station in a van without any assistance with our luggage and essentially dumped us at the station. ||||After we were able to find a more suitable, clean and safe hotel to stay in, I was soon able to learn that the Nikko Park Lodge hostels, as there are two of them, are known and are regarded as the worse in the area bringing much anger among the local operators who clearly operate their premises at a far more superior standard as Nikko Park Lodge management does. ||||Essentially they took money under false pretences and were completely unhelpful and deceitful in all dealings. The cost of this place was expensive as in comparison to the cost of the other hotels in Nikko downtown area. And these hotels are given 3 to 4 star ratings. Again essentially, they stole money from us. ||||The standard of this place is demonstratively sub-standard to the point of being actually unhealthy and dangerous. Clearly the management rely on people who have no idea what healthy, clean standards are. ||||The fact, Agoda and Booking.com and apparently some other sites allowing such a premises to be listed on their sites raises more questions about them. Do they not check-out the listed places for themselves? ||||Nikko Park Lodge Mountainside premises felt unsafe and insecure in regards to both the staff and the building itself. It was a horrible, traumatic experience.

During my solo trip/adventure to Nikko last winter of 2008, stayed at Nikko Park Lodge. The place is a little bit far from the station going to the mountain but I feel in love with the place the moment I saw it. I stayed in a female dorm style room and a girl from Australia was there when I arrived but I was not able to mingle with them sine I was so tired from my adventure that day. The next day, I woke up really early and took a long walk around the area since breakfast was not yet ready. The place was really homey, it was unfortunate though that I have to leave early to continue my adventure in Nikko. Will i stay there again? Definitely.
