On the Grid : Niko Niko

"The best sushi joints are those tucked away in obscure strip malls off the beaten path from the hustle and bustle. At Niko Niko you'll find the standard sushi fare but with a twist, like the "Heart Attack", a deep-fried Philadelphia roll topped with fresh jalapeño. Often with a line out the door, Niko Niko has everything from mild to fire breathing spicy. Tame the burn of the spicy Ahi tuna salad with some unfiltered Kikusui sake. This place mixes creativity with tradition and never fails to deliver the flavor and quality." - Jennifer Beatty

This place is incredible! The sushi chefs are true artists, and you can taste the dedication in every bite. The fish is unbelievably fresh, and their hand rolls are absolutely amazing – seriously the best I've ever had. What a fantastic sushi experience! I can't recommend this sushi spot enough! The talent of the sushi chefs shines through in every dish. The fish is unparalleled!

Google
I thoroughly enjoyed the sushi restaurant if you have people who don't like sushi this might not be the best choice because the non-sushi options are limited. They have a lot of creative rules, beautiful presentation not the biggest restaurant does have parking. It was quite yummy and I was also thought it was very reasonably priced.

Best sushi place in town. Plenty of delicious rolls and awesome udon soups. Their wait staff are top notch and very friendly. I just wish they offered delivery.

This establishment has been at this location for quite sometime now. It's a small place but very accommodating. The food has always been really good here. The is a variety of rolls here are incredible, about over 60 rolls.

Google
Ohhhhh myyyyyy!!! Went Costco and afterwards had a sushi craving. I looked up nearby and Niko has a 4.5 rating. Funny lived near there years ago and never went before. There was a wait as the place is quite small but it was myself so i got seated at the bar. Kid friendly so it was loud with kids but once I got my sashimi, what kids? It came with a delicious salad and miso soup and the slices were thick and absolutely amazing! I have tried many sushi spots and left very disappointed by their service this place every server serves each others table so you will always have service and truly are the sweetest employees. I will definitely come back myself and bring others… Thank you for exemplary food and service…. Unfortunately no pics I was obviously hungry lol!!!

Google
This small little sushi location offers a lot of delicious sushi rolls. We ordered about five sushi rolls, and we thought all of them tasted great! The sashimi quality was fine but most importantly, it's all fresh and professionally prepared. The service was excellent as we were seated quickly, and had our hot teas topped off the entire time we ate. Our hostess was very kind and checked in with us often. The food also came out really quickly, but I think that was because we ate around 2:30pm when the restaurant started to clear out. I'd recommend this sushi spot if you're around the area!

Google
EXCEPTIONAL for a strip mall. For sushi lovers or foodies - this actually IS good sushi. Soft supple rolls. So tasty you almost don’t need sauces - a sign of quality ingredients. Look at the amount of eel on this; a sign this place respects good food done well, and respects and cares about their customers. I drive across town from Toluca Lake for this.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite neighborhood sushi spots, and I eat here quite often. I'm a big fan of the Poki Salad, the Lemon Drop Roll, and the Niko Sushi Combo--all are consistently delicious and packed with fresh fish. The fish here is always fresh and full of flavor, which keeps me coming back. The location is small but cozy, giving it a welcoming vibe. It's typically busy, so be prepared for a bit of a wait, but it's definitely worth it. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're in the area and looking for great sushi!

Yelp
This review is strictly for the poke salad with the poke sauce. It is superb. The ambiance, way too crowded for my taste so I prefer to order my salad and take home. The service: really pleasant, The food: not a huge fan of their sushi.

Yelp
Niko Niko is our go-to spot we usually go to and really enjoy it. I ordered to-go today for lunch since I was really crazy sushi. Not just any sushi, I was craving Niko Niko. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed. Almost everything I ordered was so off. The ingredients, seasoning, the final dish and taste. It wasn't pleasant this time which isn't the case usually. It felt like different items and/or diff chef. The chef shouldn't matter since its standard items in the menu. It was all weird. The popcorn lobster had different seasoning on it (the green powder like) and it was super chewy not crunchy. The jumbo scallop nigiri box said no soy sauce on it (which I never said anything about that) and it looked seared for some reason which looked strange since we didn't ask for that. It also didn't have the usual yuzu paste. The spicy scallop roll also looked very different, not the usual. I wasn't happy with it this time and have to be honest in my review. If they changed their menu and the items are different from the usual norm, they should let their customers know. I wouldn't have ordered most of the items. I think I'm good with Niko for a while. My craving was not satisfied and unfortunately was so disappointed.

Yelp
I love the creative specialty rolls here! In addition to their regular menu, there are a dozen or so "special" rolls detailed on their walls. We sat at the bar and went with the following: - Salmon Lollipop: SO delicious. Seared salmon with Tobiko (roe) and a slice of lemon. Yum. - Salmon Killer: Love me some creamy spicy salmon. Probably my favorite of the evening. - Marilyn Monroll: Jumbo tiger shrimp in tempura and sauce, with a blue crab cut roll. The shrimp definitely added some good flavor to the crab. - Elina #2: Baked shrimp and scallops in a rich dynamite sauce - delish, warm, satisfying. Maybe a bit too much sauce, but it delivered. Prices were reasonable for the quantity and quality of the rolls. Others ordered nigiri and sashimi, but we were in the mood for some thicc rolls. Mission accomplished! Service was super efficient, people were friendly. Free parking in a small lot out front. This place is in a strip mall-type plaza, pretty easy to find.

Yelp
3/5 overall, 4/5 for taste of the food. Join the waitlist and immediately check in with the host so they physically see you, they don't update the waitlist accurately and you could possibly be seated earlier. We waited a full hour when our estimated seat time was 15 minutes from when we joined. The food does not come out all at once, it comes out at different times all spread too far apart in my opinion. We had to wait a while after we finished each roll, which was kind of ridiculous. Only come here if you want to wait forever for your food to be made. With that being said though, everything we ordered was delicious, the rice was cooked perfectly and the fish was fresh. The ratio of rice to fish was also perfect, not too much rice and not skimpy on the fish. We ordered the miso soup, Sunkist roll, Salmonkiller, Monkeybrain roll and Vegas roll. The miso soup was good and standard. The [Sunkist roll] was good, get this if you love salmon, I would get this again. The [Salmonkiller] definitely had a slight spicy kick, with a lot of sesame oil essence. This was good but slightly too wet for me to re-order again. The [Monkeybrain roll] is a baked roll, comes out steaming hot and was very savory and delicious. I would get this again! Finally, the [Vegas roll] was good, tempura was crispy but I wouldn't order it again because I feel like there was too much going on with the sauce on top, shrimp tempura and tuna inside that you couldn't really taste everything individually. Good but I would personally pass next time. Overall service was good but SLOW.. I probably wouldn't come back unless I had a TON of time to kill and I wasn't starving.

Yelp
This is our go-to sushi spot! Everything is fresh. My husband and I have had several dishes from special sushi menu and all of them have been creative and delicious!

Yelp
Hands-down, the best hole in the wall, sushi restaurants ever. If you're skeptical about trying it, don't be will be the best decision you make.

Yelp
This is a tiny sushi restaurant that we have wanted to check out for a long time. When we stepped in the door there was barely enough room to wait. In fact we were asked to wait outside until space at the bar was ready. We waited outside for about 15 minutes. I knew they weren't going to come get us. We finally checked back inside and were seated but not before I got tripped by another guest. The place was so loud and full that it made me uncomfortable. AND there was another guest 3 seats away who was SO LOUD! We had to hear all about his finances! We ordered 3 rolls. The garlic Albacore roll was the best. Caterpillar roll was good. And Vegas roll was forgettable. We also got an order of unagi(eel) which was good. It was all just ok. But I don't think we'll return.
google avatar

Yelp
Our dining experience was okay. We ordered Gyoza and Tempura on the side, along with beef and tempura noodles. The staff were helpful and welcoming. Space is quite small but it helps to make the ambiance a little more intimate for customers. The bathroom is okay. Service is quick. Ultimately, the foods we ordered weren't that special and their specialty is mainly sushi rolls which we didn't try. Hopefully, we can come and visit once more and try their sushi next time.
google avatar

Narine T.

Yelp
Our favorite go to sushi. We always order to go as the wait can be a bit long, Our faves are Sushi blossom Poke salad In and out Lemon drop Green lantern Garlic albacore Super crunch roll Popcorn lobster Sapporo roll Albacore with crispy onions Crunch Dragon Hawwaiian roll
google avatar

Patricia D.

Yelp
I came hungry and left satisfied. I ordered their Sashimi A Combo and the portion was perfect! It came with a little salad, miso soup, and rice. The cuts of salmon, tuna and albacore were generous. The staff were welcoming and attentive. There was a staff member that was training and he did well. We were seated comfortably at the counter. They also have large tables for groups. The place isn't the biggest but it wasn't a problem. Parking is shared amongst all the businesses in the plaza so plan for that. Parking was plenty during our visit but that may not be the case all time, especially for LA County.

Yelp
Niko Niko is my favorite sushi spot! My husband and I used to come here all the time when we lived in Burbank. Now we come to visit as often as we can, we love Niko Niko! Every time we walk in we are greeted with a friendly face. Not only were we greeted when we walk in, but also when we walked out. We know how busy it can get so we get there before dinner rush, so we can get a table right away. Their sitting are is small, but it's worth it to wait. You can also do take out. We started with a warm bowl of miso soup. Then we ordered our favorite rolls which are their double roll, Sunkist roll, spicy tuna roll, California roll and salmon sushi!! Sooo yummy!! Everything comes out quickly and tastes really fresh! See you soon Niko Niko!

Yelp
This restaurant was very well made. The food was amazing and it was exquisite. It was well decorated and also had a nice kick to it all. The service was also very well served, the waitress and waiters were nice and gave free refills! An amazing spot and gave a cozy vibe, highly recommend!

Yelp
Manager has the worse attitude. Doesn't have any customer service skill. Just tried the California Roll - taste so flavor less so bland. Called to let them know it doesn't take like it usually does and all she said is "sorry about that" Well that was a total waste of time and money. This is the last time I come here.
google avatar

Yelp
The best Sushi place in the Los Angeles area. All the worker in this place are so kind and friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a cool little spot tucked away in a shopping plaza in Burbank. Service was good, not amazing, but it seemed they had some newer servers. The food was good. Overall a cute little spot that appears to be fairly popular. I would recommend it if you're in the area..

Yelp
I'm still dining here! I've read a few of the recent reviews and wanted to just say, I can't attest to whether the "quality" has gone down or not because I still love everything I order. I also have dined at many of the sushi spots in and outside of Burbank, and Niko Niko just does it for me. I love their particular flavors. The space is small, but that's not new for me. I dine at small restaurants regularly. Of course it'll seem cramped when it's busy so keep that in mind, especially on weekend evenings. I haven't had an issue with staff yet. Noting, some are more knowledgeable about the menu than others, but all have been pleasant. Parking can be a challenge during the busy times, but that's if you're scared of a little walk. There's ample parking in that neighborhood--I rarely care to park in the actual lot. Other than that, my gripe remains--I wish there was a happy hour or partial roll option. That's just me being selfish though. Give it at least one try and if it doesn't work for you based on your taste, go elsewhere.

Yelp
I had dinner and I enjoyed it. I had the 3 combination bento and it was pretty filling and came with salad and rice. I had the vegetable tempura, chicken cutlet and spicy tuna roll. The tempura had a good mix of string bean and such and came with dipping sauce. The cutlet was on the drier side. I've never had cutlet so dry before. The spicy tuna was good. The service was good. I'd come back again.

Yelp
We tried this spot randomly and loved it. I am more of a sushi person and not a roll type of gal and their sushi selection is incredible and super fresh. Loved sitting at the counter and watching them make my food. Service is nice and quick. It can get busy so it might be a little wait. Overall I had a good experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Creative little Sushi joint located in a small shopping plaza that is out of the way. There is plenty on their color picture menu displaying the many available rolls giving many average sushi connoisseurs a variety other than your traditional Niguri and Sashimi. The fish are fresh and prepared well. Their creativity is commendable. There posted specials behind the Sushi bar along with highlighted menu items on the walls. For lunch/Dinner, there is a Bento Box available to choose from, but this is where they may falter a bit. The tempura is far too breading-laden and the teriyaki is an utter disappointment. The beef teriyaki resembled the thin slices of beef you can get across the street at Yoshinoya. The saving grace goes to the excellent service. The staff continues to be quite attentive and responsive.

Yelp
Love Niko Niko, favorite sushi spot around the area. The lollipop and lemon rolls are my favorites. Have been coming here for years
google avatar

Melody C.

Yelp
This is a nice little sushi spot. There is a great variety and the prices are not out of control! The waitstaff staff is friendly and efficient. The only reason for 4 stars was the glare in my eyes sitting next to the window. The window shade was not sufficient.
google avatar

Angela H.

Yelp
this sushi restaurant is one of my family's favorites. do not let the small and cozy interior fool you -- this place is the definition of a hole in the wall. the sushi is extremely fresh and always comes out on a timely manner. the service is top tier -- super punctual and great customer service. i recommend getting the poke salad -- the perfect appetizer and a house special.
google avatar

Yelp
Run! Don't walk, because this is the best sushi you will find in the city of Burbank. I have been going to this place for years and they have never disappointed me. My go too items are the Hungry Roll, Poke salad, and Popcorn lobster roll. The hungry roll is massive and if you are a fan of unagi and baked sushi, its honestly life changing. It's arguably the best baked sushi roll I have ever eaten in my entire life. service is great and parking is rarely an issue.

Anna A.

Yelp
I think we found a new favorite place to have sushi! Small place but is mighty! Service was so good! A true rarity. Very helpful, sweet, respectful and attentive people. O'yshi Roll was amazing! Full of flavor and really fresh. The salmon avocado had roll was also superb. There was a party in my mouth!! Sashimi plate had large pieces of fresh fish of Chef's choice and hit the spot. Sashimi plate came with a side order of rice, salad, and miso soup. Although salad was not the best miso soup was good. Overall great quality, and a wonderful experience! We will be back!!

Ricardo M.

Yelp
This has been our absolute favorite. Very clean good quality fish. Not very saucy. Consistently good. Great friendly service. Worth the wait.
google avatar

J. 'n A. H.

Yelp
Great service, fresh sushi, nice owners, and always good vibes here! It is popular, so sometimes there is a wait.

Diana D.

Yelp
Fresh and very good. When you pull up to a place and there is a wait, you know it is good. So be patient and wait. Maybe grab a boba from the next door while you wait and support our local businesses. They really take pride in the Art of sushi making.
google avatar

Markeli I.

Yelp
We love Niko Niko, we order different plates and all the food very Delicious, service good, in a nice and friendly environment , this time the wait was shorter than usual (25 min) it's our favorite sushi joint

Pablo V.

Yelp
Best sushi spot, period. Our go to and the people make the place. Regulars are treated as if it's home. 11/10 every time!
google avatar

Kris T.

Yelp
The service was amazing and the food was even better. Busy so make a reservation. Fat kid approved
google avatar

Paul C.

Yelp
The food is just meh. Service very slow. Small and cramped. it looks like a lot of people order takeout from there so for some reason that is why our food took so long.
google avatar

Sid S.

Yelp
Manager has bad attitude and quality has gone downhill. Save money and try one of many sushi restaurants in the area
google avatar

Josh D.

Yelp
Go here just for the quality of fish alone. Some of the freshest, most tender, melted in your mouth fish I've ever had in my life. I visited the location on a Tuesday afternoon, and there was only a couple people in there, but the service staff was very attentive, very friendly and polite, and it was great. Kind of tucked away in a weird little strip mall, but do not pass this place up, it's really incredible. My only negative thing was the prices of their food are a little bit elevated, but for the quality, you really can't complain. One of the better sushi spots I visited across Southern California. Good job Niko Niko!
google avatar

Mariana B.

Yelp
The food and service were excellent! My husband and I randomly chose this spot and can't stop talking about it! Best sushi and edamame we've had! We even ordered more rolls! We will definitely go back when we're in the area.
google avatar

Giancarlos B.

Yelp
Niko Niko is awesome awesome!! The best sushi restaurant in the world (at least that I've tried so far). This "hole-in-the-wall" gem is not much to look at, but boy do they know sushi. I've tried different rolls, but my favorites are the double double roll and the sunkist roll. Also try their salmon sushi, it's the butteriest and creamiest salmon you've tried in your life. Eat first, thank me later.
google avatar

Garen M.

Yelp
Very good food , excellent service , everything is fresh , sake and beer , thank you gor good time
google avatar

Anita D.

Yelp
Great food. Might not look like a place you would stop at but you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Lucy L.

Yelp
This is the BEST sushi around. Always the freshest fish. Love their special rolls. I highly recommend the Salmon Killer roll. AMAZING!
google avatar

Britney P.

Yelp
My first time here and I'll be going back for sure!! The best sushi l've ever had, I only eat my sushi with soy paper since I'm not a seaweed fan. I ordered the Alaska roll and spicy edamame. The combinations in the sushi roll was perfect, just enough of every ingredient. The edamame was perfectly spicy and super garlicky and salty but it was great for me, I like my food more on the salter side anyways. All of the ladies that work there are super sweet, and while I was there, every table ended up getting the house salad on the house. I loved this salad just as much as the sushi. It was delicious Overall I really enjoyed this meal, I definitely recommend.
google avatar

Sarkis M.

Yelp
My go to spot for sushi for 5+ years. I wish they delivered. Here are my must have rolls anytime I go: Green lantern, 911, Dekado, Salmon killer, Eleina #1, Genki You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Jon N.

Yelp
We don't come here often, but we always enjoy it when we do. It's tiny and gets busy, so it can be a challenge to find seats. Once you're settled, service is great, friendly and efficient. Tons of specialty rolls available and we've loved all that we've tried. If you're strictly a nigiri or sashimi fan, you're covered. Great fish! But, I definitely recommend trying a roll or two. Prices are a bit lofty, but the fish is quality, so it's worth it.
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
It's so small in there and always busy. It was ok. Nothing amazing. Service was slow when we went. Really slow. So slow we asked for the last of our order to be put in to go boxes. I know people rave about Niko Niko but i have had better. If you want a similar atmosphere but better sushi go to Kuru Kuru.
google avatar

Savannah A.

Yelp
Likes to close early and turn customers away at the door after calling to make sure they'd be open and when they said no, we are closed they wouldn't even allow us to place a to go order! Ten minutes before close!
google avatar

Brenda R.

Yelp
I'm obsessed!!! I love love their sushi here !! It hits the spot every time. Its service is great and quick. It is a smaller place but well worth the wait. If you rather pick up your food to go that's another great option here.
google avatar

Lusine P.

Yelp
I was introduced to Niko Niko by a friend, she said this is her go to sushi place and I decided to give it a try since she knows what she talks about and I as well are a big foodie person. Now, i've been here at least 3 times on good terms but the only con there is, is that the space in their is very limited. I always have gotten lucky and been seated right away but I feel like it would be better if the setting of the place was bigger. My favorite part in walking on the restaurant is when you enter the chefs greet you in such a happy manner. Overall, place is great and I Recommend even the sushi rolls are good (especially the TNT roll)
google avatar

Arturo F.

Yelp
This place used to be good. The size of the sushi roll is tiny and a joke. You should be ashamed of yourself. Your prices aren't cheap and you could add more rice to make it bigger. Greedy joint. I won't be coming back.
google avatar

Ellen K.

Yelp
Friend took me here for a late lunch. A little hole in the wall. Very small place, limited seating. The bar was clustered and only had a couple tables available. Fortunately getting there at 4pm, we did not have to wait. - Lemon drop roll 4.7/5 Thin slices of lemon on top of a roll with spicy tuna! It was really good. I love lemon so if you enjoy sour you should try this roll! - Salmon killer 5/5 Salmon lovers unite! Salmon in different ways, everywhere! This roll was SO good. I would definitely get it again. - Green mussels 5/5 5 green mussels baked and cut into halves. They were very easy to eat and was delicious! - Albacore with mushroom & garlic 4/5 Albacore sashimi with fried mushrooms and garlic on the side. The Albacore was delicious and soft. Mushroom and garlic were fried. This was a yummy tasting appetizer. A little heavy on the oil. Parking is free and easy in the afternoon!
google avatar

Hyun S.

Yelp
Great quality of sushi and the services. My favorite sushi place in town. Must try their uni.
