Nikoi Island, Bintan Islands, Indonesia - Explore & Book

"Experience barefoot luxury here at Nikoi, a private island off the east coast of Bintan. Just 2.5 hours from Singapore, this laid-back, secluded getaway offers an abundance of pristine natural wonders and wildlife encounters. Ringed with white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and coral reefs, and blessed with a rainforest teeming with birds, this tiny island offers the ultimate Robinson Crusoe experience. Handcrafted from driftwood with ‘alang alang’ grass roofs, the 18 beautiful stilted beach houses have one, two or three bedrooms, spacious bathrooms, and balconies to maximise sea views and catch cooling sea breezes (no need for air-conditioning). Affordable and far from pretentious, nearly all the ingredients, materials and products deployed are sourced locally; staff are local too. A leader in sustainable tourism, Nikoi Island's eco-friendly principles underwrite all that they do. There's minimal landscaping (building was limited to one area of the island) and natural ventilation, the planting of indigenous plants, removal of plastic from the eco-system and solar-powered hot water. They've also helped establish marine protected areas and supported local education. A haven for honeymooners, young couples or families alike, it's a wild playground for all ages. There's no shortage of things to do – snorkelling, island hopping, fishing, sailing, wildlife spotting – or just reclining on a daybed, cocktail in hand. You'll marvel at the most fantastic carpet of stars come evening too. Highs Super-friendly, dedicated staff make the experience complete – they called us by name and remembered our favourite things There's a choice of swimming pools Beachfront massages in the tented spa, where the only soundtrack is the sea Yummy food using locally sourced, fresh products Spacious, Zen-like beach houses that can accommodate 2-6 people Abundant wildlife including sea turtles, monitor lizards, butterflies, otters, and eagles Lows Book early if you want to come in the school holidays! Expect to see creepy crawlies, though each house has mosquito nets and coils to keep them at bay It's an adventure to get to: a ferry from Singapore to Bintan, then a private transfer and a private launch – but all in, only a journey of 2.5 hours No phones or TVs in the rooms – but there's mobile reception, WiFi, movie projectors and you can borrow books, mags and board games" - Rachel Everett

TRULY PARADISE😭😭😭 even the mosquito here are all very obedient, based on what our nikoi abang told us, they are trained to be friendly or somehow so even if it’s an island, NO WORRIES no insects will interfere with your trip here, go and explore even barefoot you can still finish walking this island without worry, they are all friends, this is really what surprised me. The food was really superb, decent portion, from the appetizer, main course and dessert all of it was so thoughtfully prepared. The sand was like powder, softer than flour, the water was crystal clear, good for snorkeling, the room has got a hint of luxury but in a very natural environment, even the bathroom was also built to feel like a paradise, spacious and cozy all staffs are very accommodating from the port till the end of the trip. All my friends were asking where did I go, to Bintan really have such a wonderful place? OMG YES 🙌🏼 the only part I hate about this place is to leave in the end i really miss this place :(

I will struggle to do justice to how amazing this beautiful island is, but here goes my best attempt! From the moment I arrived at the ferry port in Bintan, I was treated like a celebrity. A fantastic journey that included a lovely car down to the south of the island to "Base" from where a robust speedboat transported me over to Nikoi Island. I never knew places like this existed I was met on the jetty by many of the staff members, all of whom were smiling, in full flow of conversation and incredibly welcoming. From the moment I stepped foot on Nikoi, I fell in love with this tiny island. My room wasn't exactly a room (see the photos) it was a two-storey villa all open plan facing out to see and leading straight onto the glistening golden beach. The room itself was immaculately clean and incredibly well appointed and, not that I needed it, the Wi-Fi was great Great toiletries, daily water, coffee etc / beautifully comfortable bed with crisp linen sheets / super comfy Downstairs, there was a seating area / daybed / robust fixed hammock etc absolutely perfect The dining room is all open planned and the floor is simply sand. The food and service could not have been better. I relished every morsel The bar area is close by and again, looks out to the ocean. You can lose yourself chilling out in one of the quiet seating areas or sit at the bar and listen to Gully, Yudi or Habib quietly strumming away on their guitars and singing harmoniously together, whether it's Coldplay or someone else. There is a daily cocktail served by Baltazar, which was delicious. Throughout my stay the staff checked on how I was enjoying myself and was anything else that I needed. Rene, took me a on a tour to run me through what goes on behind-the-scenes and we discussed the sustainability initiatives that are in place such as harnessing energy, harvesting rainwater, recycling water, composting food waste etc - he is a genius and has an infectious and interesting way of explaining how these initiatives work One evening XL appeared to tell us that a giant sea turtle nest was hatching and we watched as baby turtles made their longest journey in their lives on land, strengthening their backs as they went down the beach ready for a life in the ocean. I lost myself on Nikoi / it was a complete reset / recharge / an appreciation of nature and great to leave the world behind, if only for a few days I can't wait to get back one day ...... don't procrastinate..... Just visit-it's truly amazing

A wonderful blend of nature and relaxation for kids and adults alike. Away from the usual hustle and bustle of mainstream resorts, this is one place to get away from. Indonesian hospitality is something one would find hard to miss. Salutations to the staff who make you feel right at home and making the effort to remember names of every guest down to the little kiddos. From turtle hatching, rock pool exploration, sea sports, fire fly encounters, a million star views, scenic sunsets. It was hard to leave behind the memories. A big shout out to the staff at Nikoi island for making this a memorable trip for me and my family.

Nikoi is truly a delightful place to visit; our second time this year has been just as wonderful. It's a peaceful retreat for parents and a magical haven for children who can let their imaginations soar like Peter Pan. Stepping onto the island instantly brings a sense of tranquility and warmth. I highly recommend Nikoi to families with children who love the outdoors and adventure. It's a departure from typical resorts like Club Med, which I appreciate. My children are up early, enjoying various activities until lunchtime, from jetty jumping to snorkelling and more, while mum and dad get some well-deserved relaxation time. Even couples without kids would enjoy Nikoi, except during Singapore international school holidays. One area for improvement is the food variety, particularly for children. While three meals are served daily. There is no other options outside of these meals so it's a good idea to bring snacks along with you.

A gem of an Island run by some exceptionally friendly people. It’s about 4 hours from Singapore and so much better than taking a flight somewhere. The food is outstanding. Every meal was balanced, nutritious and delicious. It’s a perfect getaway for families with younger kids. There are downsides though. The villas are quite open and while the vernacular architecture is terrific for ventilation without the need for air-conditioning, this does mean that you have to deal with bugs and mosquitoes. Also, there is a compost pile somewhere on the middle of the Island that was bad for anyone staying downwind from it. If we go back again, I’m going to make sure we book a villa on the right side of the Island. In the winter, the north side seems to be better.

Amazing spot. Down to the design and build of the accommodation, to the food, to the friendly staff, to the vistas. Very well organised, very accommodating reasonable value. (I understand that is a privileged statement to make) Just an epic spot. 3 to 5 days is a perfect time to spend for us. Thankyou to the staff 🙏🏻 Two teenage kids with us loved it too.

Spent 4D3N on the island and it was truly a unique experience. Firstly be prepared for a lengthy journey starting with a ferry over to Bintan, followed by a 1-hr car ride to the other side of Bintan and finally another boat transfer to Nikoi itself. The entire journey here was smooth and immigration process was very well handled. The villas were well kept and maintained but for those of you not acclimatized to sleeping without an aircon then pls be forewarned. All villas were close enough to the main dining area except for the private pool villas which are about a 600m walk each way. The waters around the island were fantastic and reminded me of the Maldives in certain respects. Staff were all very polite and obliging so service was impeccable. Food-wise was also very good especially the Indonesian cuisine. Unfortunately no room service is available so bring over your own snacks and drinks if you like to nibble in the comfort of your villa. I can now understand why there are so many repeat customers here. I’m truly tempted to revisit soon. Thank you Nikoi.
