Why Every Chocolate Lover Needs to Plan a Trip to Belize

"A sacred, 121-acre Maya archaeological site dating back to the 5th century AD that serves as an important historic and ceremonial landmark in southern Belize. The site offers extensive ruins and cultural context for the region’s long cacao history and is notable for being used as the culminating venue for local cultural events, providing visitors with a tangible link to ancient Maya traditions." - Stacey Leasca

Awesome untouched Mayan ruins. Beautiful flora and fauna. Knowledgable guide that ran up and down the terrain off trail like a mountain goat.

A Day of Discovery at Nim Li Punit – International Archaeology Day Step back in time, indeed! Yesterday at Nim Li Punit, the spirit of the ancient Maya came alive in the heart of southern Belize. Celebrating International Archaeology Day, the site transformed into a vibrant hub of learning, culture, and fun for visitors of all ages.

This place was so interesting. A wonderful, knowledgeable tour guide gave us so much insight, culture, and historical information. The hike through the former city was so beautiful. Lots of stairs n steps but not too challenging for anyone.

I enjoy visiting ruins and this was yet another good one. The area is fairly big with lots to see and photograph. It should take 1-2 hours to see everything depending on how fast or slow you want to walk.

The site was absolutely beautiful, employees were friendly & facilities were tidy. There was a great amount of wildlife and we really enjoyed our quick visit

Interesting ruins, however not the most impressive, still under excavation, you can see areas that still need to be explored. The excavations are done by volunteers from schools and when organized excavations will be done. You can really see in here how the Mayan civilization use to live and their graves and ceremonies they do when their life will be coming to an end. Great place.

Low season in June-July-August. Barely a soul. We had the place to ourselves. Serene. Beautiful grounds. Stellae & artifacts well kept with just enough information. The road up to it requires a 4WD. Reminds me of Lamanai up north. Nearby recommendations: >>Belize Spice Farm cabins -- all teak, gorgeous, open in fall 2023. >> Cenaida'd Seaside Cafe in PG >>market Wed/Fri/*Sat* AMs in PG >>Living Maya Experience, $30/p >>Belize Spice Farm tractor tour, $45 bz/p, 1.5 hrs, very engaging, fun. >>artesania crafts @ Indian Creek Women's Art Group >>Oct-Feb (dry season): Rio Blanco, San Antonio, Blue Creek cave, etc. >>roadside tamale cafe near Pearldeen (aka Coleman's) lunch buffet >>buy what locals are selling along the highway--tasty fun. >>Eladios Cacao Farm a bit over-hyped & over-priced for what we experienced. But worth doing it once (without, or lower, expectations) & buy their cacao bars. Had a blast in south Belize. Follow me for honest reviews. Near Hopkins: Into horseback riding? +Outback Trails near Cockscomb. Fun, hip, chill eatery? +Ella's Chill Spot in Hopkins. Best waterfall to swim any season? +Maya King in Mayan World, $10/p to enter Volunteer? +Clean up the beach, please

This place is a good hour away from the cruise port but if you’re into native history of the Americas, you’ve got to make sure you go here. The staff are native to the country(Belize), are well-versed in their knowledge of this historic site, and are proud of that heritage and are not afraid to talk about it.
