The Best Walking Tours of New York City (Updated 2025)

"I tried NiteTables Experiences for nightlife-focused guided outings and liked that small groups and knowledgeable guides make it easy to check out bars, clubs, and speakeasies; my favorite is the Speakeasy & Prohibition History Tour, which visits three historic bars/pubs/speakeasies while explaining the Gilded Age and Prohibition Era—great for solo travelers who want a hassle-free night out with insider tips." - Matthew Kepnes

My husband and I did a speakeasy tour in New York City. Katherine was our tour guide and made it an exceptional experience. We highly recommend this tour company and the speakeasy experience.

My wife bought me the Speakeasy Tour with Catherine as a Christmas gift. As a NYC tour guide myself and educator, it was a blast. It was informative, humorous, fun, and we met really cool people from all over the world. Catherine was very kind, hilarious, and natural at giving the tour! I was super impressed by how seamless everything was considering the holiday season hustle and bustle. We want to do it again! If you’re a resident of NYC or traveling here, definitely take this tour! It’s worth every penny.

Amazing speakeasy tour with Catherine! We had the best time! Used our GoCity pass. We needed to reschedule to the later tour and everything was changed without an issue. Highly recommend!

Our experience on the speakeasy tour was very disappointing. We visited three bars — only one of them was in a basement, but it had more pornographic photos than anything else. The other two bars were inside hotels and had nothing to do with the concept of a speakeasy. The tour started with 13 people and ended with only 3. I believe the other participants were also not impressed. Our guide, Ariel, was very friendly and gave us great insights into bar culture, but unfortunately, the choices made by the company did not match the description of the tour. Overall, it felt like a waste of time and money. Such a shame!

What an adventure! My wife and I were excited about the prospect of staggering around Midtown Manhattan, discovering secret gin joints and learning all about Prohibition and the gangster violence that surrounded it, but we couldn’t have imagined what our guide Ryan had in store for us. Every speakeasy was unique and amazing, from the heavily flowered former church to the Blue Room tucked in back of a hotel to the private lounging den set behind the bar out front. Ryan had many drink recommendations, and every one was spot-on and perfect. My wife found the perfect cosmo—more than once!—and I discovered what shochu tastes like when infused with roasted peanuts—like delicious hellfire. Meanwhile, Ryan wove a tale of opportunity and danger and history and good old American gumption by way of Ireland. The stories always elevated the locations, and weren’t intrusive or overwhelming, and this is coming from someone who was feeling very loosy-goosy after the first stop. That gin glass was about the size of a fishbowl! No hesitation, no warnings, no asterisks, just a straight-up recommendation for this tour. By the way, the tour appears to be extremely popular, judging from the 28 guests who showed up at ours. Not to worry, because the tour company conjured another guide and split our massive group, and by the end of our adventure, we were all very close slurring friends.

This experience was the highlight of my first trip to NYC. Our tour guide, Christopher, was above excellent with knowledge and engaged all of us in the discussion. Our group continued dinner and fun at Ramen Noodle place (Ichiran). Great memories!!
